Well I just spoke to the SF rep and he said it's definitely a total loss...I asked about buying it back and it turns out that according to Hawaii law, only an authorized shop is allowed to work on a salvaged bike...so if I wanted to buy it I would have to pay $2500 and only SS would be allowed to fix it...
He also said that SS is one of the shops that has put in a bid to buy it...so basically they can say it'll take a crapload to fix and then get to buy it for cheap...
Lame...and crooked

hey just came across this, and wanted to say sorry that the bike got totaled, all i do is list damaged parts and add labor, which is nothing compared to parts. the adjuster gets the quote, he then looks over the bike and may ask a question or two. the adjuster decides what they want to fix.  i do find that if the policy holder wants to save it, it is more likely to be saved, and vice versa, but this between the adjuster and policy holder. we never bid on bikes, not that i know of.
i hope this clears up any suspicions as i take it very seriously.
the numbers the adjusters use are always changing depending on what they can get for it on the block and market value, so for example i am doing a frame on a 1198s, which would before come close to totaling it, but theover all wasn't that much compared to their magic number, and the policy holder wanted it saved i think, which he would tell his adjuster, not us. my estimates are the same regardless of what the policy holder wants, it's only the facts. the adjuster can take things off, not me.

ok, sorry about that, but i don't want you guys feeling that would be going on. thanks

You most likely didn't see this 675, Will, as it went to the Waipahu shop.  Unless we really missed something it didn't seem like it had enough damage to be even close to calling it a total. I mean the guy went off the road at 15 mph into grass & bushes. Had a small dent in the tank and scrapes on the fairing & tail cowl. He could have ridden it home except for the bent shift lever. Now the 1198S that went down on Norfolk would be another matter entirely and from what we saw it could make it into total loss land. Dunno, really.

If the 675 wasn't carrying collision coverage and it was up to the owner to fix out of his own pocket I bet the repair cost would be far lower. He ended up with a new 675 Special Edition so he's happy. It does make you wonder sometimes though.

sorry, this is a triumph then?
if it is, i don't know what went down, so i can't comment on it.

i just want to let you guys know it does not happen with anything in my bay.
thanks again

Kids.  [roll]  Mike had a Ducati before he traded it in on the Daytona.  We still let him hang out here though.

How's the cross country journey going Ben?

Good so far.  Spent Tuesday night in Phoenix with Adam (IZ), his wife and his poor retarded dog, then drove to Albuquerque yesterday and stayed over with Laughn's old crew.  Duc-Stew even made a showing at the BBQ, so that was cool.  Now I'm checked in at the hotel in Oklahoma City and getting ready to grab something to eat.

FYI: lots of hot babes in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area!!  I almost didn't want to leave.   ;D

It sounds like you're taking the same route making the same stops I did on my cross country drive.
