I haven't started the bike since January. Should I be draining the tank and using fresh gas before firing it up?  What then do I do with a can of old gas?   :-\

[Pregnant doging out loud]I figure I should be changing the belts soon too.[/Pregnant doging out loud]

Put some Startron in it and run it . You should be fine. As for the belts, didn't you do them a couple of years ago. I know that the factory says change them every two years but you haven't done squat for riding except that trip to Maui, or am I mistaken? Maybe they can last another year but if not let me know as I'd like to see how you do them. Or maybe I'm totally out in space, which is not that hard to believe.
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

I've been working on two 620's lately, one of which wasn't run for about 2 years and the other only out and about for a couple of 5 mile jaunts in all of one year. Both have gas in the tanks that has that rotten gas piss odor and the recently driven one popped out brown gas when I replaced the fuel hoses. Both started and idled and seem to run OK and just filling the tank with fresh gas made one even just a little better. The 2 year one is still not yet street legal but soon will be and I'll put fresh gas and a good dose of Startron in it. No worries.

Aha! That's what I wanted to hear. Is that the same stuff mentioned in the other thread?

Yeah wasn't looking forward to the belts. IIRC I did them in 2008, and only have a few thousand miles on them. But my thinking was that they've been sitting motionless, tightly wound about the pulleys for 6 months. "Spot-tension memory," akin to flatspotting an F1 tire but with belts and angular deflection.

My reg expires this month, and I need a safety check, so I gotta get this thing legal and running again.

I can understand your concern about the belts given the engine they are sitting in but I think you'll be fine.  We already had the new generation belts before 2008 so they should be more than strong enough and six months isn't anything to worry about.  Check the other forums for other opinions if you want. I'd worry more about the state of your battery charge than any other thing on the bike.

Remove the baffles from my Akrapovics this morning and went for a ride...way too loud, neighbors that had previously thrown me a shaka as I road by were flippin' me the bird.

Borrowed an idea from Rick and cut down the baffles and then reinserted them into the cans...sounds just right.

That's good. At least some change was made. Yay!
