Weekly Sunday morning Jamba Juice ride

It might be too early to tell but if yesterday's ride is any indication of the future then there may be two rides going on. One for the A team and one for the others. We might, or might not, meet up at the same place & time. We might, or might not, ride the same routes. I don't know if we'll ride together. Not a question of liking each other and getting along but rather a difference of extremes.

So uhm...  What happened?

Yeah, what he said...  just too different when it comes to riding styles?  I don't know if you've noticed (  ) but I have been less than highly motivated to make the rides since the move to the Starbucks meet.  New riders, larger groups, more aggressive on highly populated roads.  Not my style, and I'm content to make a run to the North Shore on my own for a cup of coffee instead.

I certainly don't take it personally that ya'll dont care if I'm there or not, nor should any of you on the flip side.  If I didn't like you I wouldn't bother with the board, but ....  I'm getting off topic.

I'm curious to see what the future holds.

So uhm...  What happened?

This is a public forum and lots of people have access to this whether they post or not so I'm not going into great detail. Most of you folks know that I'm certainly not the fastest guy but I do like to have some fun. My level of fun might be different from others so let's just say that there were a few instances where I felt uncomfortable and that some of the moves being made were inappropriate. DRKWNG might remember a ride or two like that where I made a similar comment. This ride was like that and more. There is a level where you might find yourself pushing a bit and you learn from that. Then there is beyond. I got the feeling, in a way, that we were being shown sort of a "if you want to ride with us then you have to ride like this".    

So I'm finding myself in a sort of a Twilight Zone (and you can apply at least a couple different meanings to that).

What's "too old"?  and  "flagrantly outrageous on a motor bike" covers a lot of territory, doesn't it??

Well...  It's not the first time safety concerns have been brought up.  Guess it just to the front a bit more of late...  You would have liked the original Desmotropic rides, back when they were actually Desmotropic rides.  The group was usually smaller and the pace much more conservative.

Yeah, sounds like I would have liked that.  Group size shouldn't be a problem if the pacesetters are considerate of the group.  If the roads are clear go like hell!  If not - wait.  Large groups present a different face depending on where you are.  Slow/boring in the front but a sometimes maniacal game of crack the whip in the back.  That's what went wrong in Hayward.

I like the people I've met but it's harsh to go to JJ for coffee & then say "No I'm not riding with you, I just came down for coffee".  Sounds like change might be in the wind.

My favorite group size is 3 to 4 riders. 5 can work if everyone has similar skills & styles but it can start to fragment in traffic. Six and up definitely gets busted up but can usually regroup depending on the folks in front.

Crack the whip.  Yep, the Slinky effect. I've found out how good the brakes are on the 848 are playing catch up to the liter bikes/1*98s on the straights.

Change is coming, no doubt about it. Funny, this whole episode is making me rethink my priorities when it comes to bikes & riding. Not to mention having had a taste of another pretty fine machine and that's saying something as the 848 is no slouch.  [moto]
