I met up with the two young Daytona riders. Stereotype riders for sure. Long sleeved tee shirts and wallet chains. Digi-cam on the tank. No Mohawks on the helmet though and that was a good thing.  [laugh]  The old man with the old man's bike got the look from those two.  They're looking at me & I'm looking at them but it was all good & friendly. They asked where should we go and I said I'll leave it up to them. The one with the camera on the older Daytona suggested Tantalus and then around Sandys. I told them I'd follow and they were good with that so off we went. Up Vineyard from Kalihi to the Pali. Left on Pali and right on School St. heading up the hill to Prospect. We got up the hill and the lead rider pulled left onto Prospect ( I thought he was going to take up the back way through Papakoleo ) but he stopped, said he lost something and pulled out his iPhone.  I asked what was up & he said he was lost & thought we made a wrong turn somewhere and was hammering at his GPS program.  [roll] [roll]  I thought for a moment and said "Don't worry, follow me".  They got this puzzled look on their faces but fell in behind me and off we went around Prospect on the usual front side. There was a bit of light traffic going up Makiki Hgts Dr. but it went left at Tantalus which left open road in front of us.  [evil]  All fine by me because I was looking for good road. The only other time I've been up there with that bike was with Gene a few weeks ago and the road was so wet we turned around part way up. I waited for them at the top and then waited again at the Manoa lookout. I got that funny look from them again but in a different way. Parted company there as they were headed for Sandy Beach and that's a high desperation only route for me. BTW, most of the upper section on Tantalus was wet but just the top under all the trees. Still a bit of slip & slide but nothing awful. Then it was the usual routes for me. Got to try an accident evasive maneuver on a certain fun freeway off/on ramp at a certain freeway interchange. Always wanted to try that move if I felt I had to.  [evil] [evil].  Emile would have been proud.  [laugh]  Just had some old fashioned plain ol' good fun.  Too bad no one was around to have a couple beers with.  [beer]
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

I miss hooning it up down there with you.

So what are yor thoughts on that old man's bike anyhow?

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

Sounds like a good time, and schoolin' the wallet-chainers certainly doesn't hurt.  [thumbsup]

That bike is very surprising. A sleeper for sure. Would I get rid of the 848 to own one? Not on my life. Not yet, that is. Would I like to have one as a possibly perfect compliment to 848? Now you're talking. I don't think it would be a serious touring bike but you could take it touring with very little problem. I could see riding it across the country. But what do I know about long distance riding?  [laugh] Squat is what.  [laugh]   It might be one of those "if you could only have one & one only bike, what would it be?" type bikes.

No doubt I will expand more on it later. It definitely has character.

Anything would be better than the 119 degree heat index we had in DC today!  bleh...  I do miss my daily bike commute and Sunday jaunts w/ you guys.

I thought you would enjoy this Ducati video, posted on another forum. Escapism

We are in DC through next week.  I'm staying at the Grand Hyatt on H St NW and mostly working aboard Boling AFB.  After 1 Aug, we'll be scattered between NJ (thanks for the recommendation), OH to visit the in-laws then head out on a 6-day cruise for my baby sisters wedding...we'll return to the great State of "Havai'i" on 12 Aug.

Can you tweak the weather to make it more bearable to play outside?!

No, not so much.  Let me know if you get some down time. My email is listed in my profile.

The question is not how far? The question is, do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far as is needed?

There's your excuse right there.  She's your girlfriend, not your wife.

;D
