People asked why I didn't take more pictures when I was riding it around Germany...it's because I could only stop somewhere flat.  Try finding somewhere flat to pull over in the Alps!  [cheeky]

Honda has a naked 599 which is essentially a CBR with-out panels.
I live vicariously thru myself......

I ride an 02 m750s pods, open exhaust, fuel modifier, 5 up on rear sprocket. I did my first track day about a month ago and got burned and I do mean burned by an instructor on a cafe cb 550(heard him say to another guy it made like 35-40 hp). I never looked at my speedo, but I'm certain that I had been riding way make the beast with two backsing faster than I ever had. Up until that day I had been talking all kinds of shit about a 900 swap, but now I think that my ride is plenty fast, it's me that needs to catch up.

Nice story, I feel like I have a lot to improve on so it keeps me from craving the bigger engine. Don't get me wrong, I totally feel like my bike is all bark and no bite because it looks and sounds fast but in reality it isn't. I never feel underpowered on my bike, I just feel like it looks faster than it is and that makes me think it should be faster... In all honesty though I think I yearn more for the dry clutch than the actual extra horses... My bike has a few mods and has a good strong pull with the new exhaust but a little more power next year or the year after might be cool. I think my next bike might be a Sport Classic anyways, and I plan on keeping the 620. I'd love to post pics but everytime I do that someone crashes into me or the bike gets knocked over so I cannot afford to test my luck anymore with pic posting...

I track a fully faired SV650... if you trust the speedo... I tend to top out around 135.... of course I have to brake hard to hit turn 1 at the end of the straight away. The middle weight twin class has tons of SV650's in it... and one M750 with fairings from a 999.... but I have not seen any 620 / 695 / 696's out there racing.  (Local racetrack... doesn't mean that they are not doing it elsewhere.)   The 750 seems to heavy when I see it racing the sv's.  I haven't noticed any breaking or accelleration issues on the SV... but it isn't a Ducati and will never win any good looks awards in my opinion.  I do think my S2R was much better performing, but I never took it out on the track to find out... and my insurance company would have a seizure if I took my 848 on the track.

Why am I tracking an SV650? It is a ton of fun and its cheap... it cost me $3500 vs. the $3500 for the full exhaust on the 848.

no doubt the dry clutch is enticing, probably combats that of the increase in power in my mind. I get what you're saying about the visual/performance contrast. I always feel obligated to explain the difference in power from a gsxr750 when asked about the displacement of my bike.

Isn't a 750 more or less the same power as a 620 because of the carb'd versus FI aspect?

For some reason I feel like I will not actually own any other brands anytime soon but I'd like to ride some others just to have a benchmark to compare mine to. The only other bike I rode was the Honda Nighthawk 250 at the MSF and I am pretty sure my bike smokes that...

The ninja weighed in at 375 and the Duc at 389. So, the ninja has it there too, and low end torque aside, smaller engines rev faster=make more power faster. The ninja, in a straight line, should pull away from the duc.

also, you guys are using published data for comparison.

My S2R has a tail chop, a carbon fiber exhaust and straight pipes, no belt covers, swapped triple with a MotoWheels skeleton type and clipons, a cut airbox, and a few other bits.  I seriously doubt it weighs remotely close to the published weight.  It dynos at 77hp now.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Overlooking Lake Geneva.  My M1000 was fine with keeping up with my mates blade, up to 90mph anyway....
My bike is a 2003 M1000Sie

It doesn't.  a buddy of mine had one and in a straight line roll on he would drop back  He also had about a 75 lb weight advantage to boot.

+1 Happened to me too. It was a Suzuki GSX1400 in my case, that guy flew. The next time out I was determined, throttle to the stop at peak power.... it felt like a completely different bike all wheelies and thrashing handlebars, not long after I fell off  ;D.

But it goes to show the rider is as important as the bike (or more so).
