Umm... I was just looking at those directions.  Those go to Silver Lake, which is about 40-45 miles shy of the observatory.  The observatory is around 5 miles from the St. Helens crater.  Soooo.... it's ~135 miles in to the observatory.  Updated map here (satellite view):

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=2170+NW+Wilson+Street,+Portland,+or&daddr=45.717686,-122.875214+to:Apiary+Rd+%4045.948916,+-123.113504+to:NF-5049%2FSpirit+Lake+Memorial+Hwy+%4046.277269,+-122.216961&hl=en&geocode=%3B%3B644217241490824916,45.948916,-123.113504%3B9203526173261272463,46.277269,-122.216961&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=10&via=1,2&sll=45.855586,-122.736511&sspn=0.761338,0.862427&ie=UTF8&ll=46.230678,-122.235947&spn=0.189047,0.215607&t=h&z=12

Here's the observatory website:
http://www.gonorthwest.com/washington/cascades/mt_st_helens/johnstonridge.htm

Note the mailing address... that's what ends at Silver Lake in the first set of Google Map directions.  That's just the mailbox, though.  The observatory lookout is quite a ways further.

So, y'all up for a ride that's roughly 135 miles each way?   [evil]  This last Cougar Run was 220 miles round trip for me, including to/from my apartment in Wilsonville.  This trip would be 270 miles round-trip from MotoCorsa... plus 18 miles each way between my place and there... That's a long day, but doable with enough stops to rest the derriere and wrists.  I'm still thinkin' about it.  My family isn't gonna be at church, because they need to run up to Burlington to pick up the closest new (leftover) 2007 CBR600RR (in all-black) to replace Tom's busted-up one.  I'm debating between goin' to church myself, goin' with you guys, or going to pick up a new bike with them.

Dam i didnt know that. Im going to head back when we hit I-5 N going towards the observatory. I can probably handle up to a 4 hr ride tops and thats being back in beaverton after 4hrs with my clips ons. I really dig them but they are not meant for that long of a ride since they are mounted below the triple tree with no risers. It bunches my knees up and i got a bad knee. I thought the observatory was like a  15 min drive once you hit I-5 North. Oh well.  At that point when you guys hit 1-5 North i will head back on 30 through St. helens then back home on Cornelius pass road. It will still be fun.

Got yourself a coffee-shop-to-coffee-shop racer huh Salty? You should be on the lookout for some riser-type and sell those ones. Shame to see that it limits your saddle time. Looks cool though  8)

I dont ride for that long usually, so i like them for what i do (frequent 2hr rides) my left knee cap is all busted up from a previous accident involving my knee cap coming completely off..you dont want to know believe me....so ive never been able to take more than a 3-4hr ride on any sport bike and thats with a stop every hour to stretch it out.  That is why ive been skipping the Cougar run, and anything else i think will involve me being on a bike longer than 3 hrs. With my knee i should be riding something with forward controls but dam if im getting a harley  :P  Anyways, so the clip-ons dont really hinder me from taking longer rides since i wouldnt take them anyways. I know i can handle this ride, but i think the extra 110 miles round trip to the observatory would do me in.  No problems though, hell it will be fun ill be hangin in there for many hrs so its all good.  No regrets here from these clip ons Billy, i love em! The pain is worth the fun.

Maybe, just maybe, if we ask Viktor reeeeealy nicely, with all due respectfullnessitude, maybe we could

consider, table a proposal, run it up the flag pole -

on "modifying"

our route ever so slightly?   :-[

Tailgunner

Y'all sure bout that? Might just be the last charge for these immortals.

SaltLick

I'm shooting for the MC meet time as well.  Being west side, seems silly to drive past where we're starting up. :)

Going to talk to Brad today at Moto and hope to hell my part is in or will be tomorrow. I really want to ride! :(

Pat-

We'd be bummed out if you didn't show up.

I'm sure you can find Motocorsa via google or mapquest.  If you need some navigation advice, just ask.

Blast off is slated for 8:15 AM sunday morning.

One thing to note Pat... if you Google MotoCorsa, they have two locations.  One on NW Wilson Street, the other on SW Canyon Rd.  We meet at 2170 NW Wilson Street, which is on the north end of Downtown, near the west end of the Freemont Bridge (I-405).

Oh hey Salty...

If'n you just wanted to ride the first fun portion then come back down 30, you're lookin' at a 106mi round trip back to the intersection of Cornelius Pass Rd and Hwy 26:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=2170+NW+Wilson+St,+Portland,+OR+97210+(Ron+Tonkin+Motocorsa)&daddr=US-30+%4045.760470,+-122.878340+to:Apiary+Rd+%4045.949196,+-123.106981+to:W+B+St+%4046.090260,+-122.941970+to:45.55517,-122.901306&hl=en&geocode=%3B11105881854467525963,45.760470,-122.878340%3B14444685287593352794,45.949196,-123.106981%3B712810572808221171,46.090260,-122.941970%3B&mra=mi&mrcr=3&mrsp=4&sz=12&sll=45.600107,-122.845345&sspn=0.191207,0.215607&ie=UTF8&ll=45.825928,-122.851868&spn=0.761744,0.862427&z=10

If you go back Cornelius Pass Rd, I have no idea how far it is back to your place, so you can use that link and modify the destination accordingly.  But yeah, that also looks like a decent ride.  [thumbsup]

I've had a few bad experiences on group rides, but after reading the replies to a topic I posted on the subject, I've come to the realization that it probably had to do with the people I was riding with. Which is better than the alternative: that I'm some anti-social, Anthropophobic, shut-in like sacduc. So this will give me a chance to to find out, was it them or is it me. I'll be in the 8:15 @ MC group. I do have a question: there's a plan for breakfast before, but is there a plan for lunch and/or booze for after?

That makes the list so far:
