I just got word from my insurance adjuster that I am going to be fully compensated for my bike, added accessories includng the termis and all my gear i lost in the wreck. [moto]
so this means I am back in the market for a new bike. I am deciding between the S4R and the brutale 910R. Aside from the obvious price tag difference, does anyone have any input on a comparison between the 2 steeds?
all about the motors.
do you like screaming or thundering?
the rest is details.
good point. IL-4 versus the V twin. I love the v twin man.. but that brutale is beautiful
The 910R is, er, for lack of a better word Brutal. Throttle is basically on/off.
Very fast bike. More upright than the S4R. Much stabler.
Gas mileage on it SUCKS. Think 25-30 mpg vs 40ish and up.
It has a five gallon tank to give it a reasonable range, but there is something wrong when you pay over $20 to fill up a bike.
a new s4r (with the teststretta) won't get 40.

Wouldn't that make it an S4Rs? Or am I behind in my model years again.
New fangled kids.
Some have heard of my infamous quote that I've used on occasion for my signature line:
"I once had an MV Agusta F4. It was like dating a Supermodel -- stunningly beautiful and
perfect. Unfortunately she had no soul -- so I sent her down the road. What I lusted was
that hot blooded and tempermental Italian mistress that would make my heart beat fast
with lust -- thus my introduction [back] to the world of Ducati's..."
This probably applies to the Brutale as well in comparison to the Monster.

current s4r is same as s4rs except for suspension and some carbon bits. often it's called s4rt.

I was reminded at the track recently...a guy here on the forum had his 1098 there. it was two octives lower than anything out there, including a 798 and an 848. The sound was intoxicating from the hotel on the back straight. (I was checking in as they finished their day).
Big duck twins just do something for me. Bikes should spit and cough a little at light throttle like they are a thoroughbreds wanting to run.
But high reving screamers do it for some other folks and the MV certainly is one of the cooler screamers.
mmmm it's a hard one... but seriously, v twins always win :D the shake you get when you rev them is sex! and the sound! oh baby im going to have to go for a ride lol
isn't it HD agusta now ;D
[laugh]
no, seriously....the F4 is a beautiful piece of machinery
I almost got the 910R very nice and overpriced.
If you don't mind the price, go for it.
The Ducati S4R is a Ducati you can't go wrong.
So it comes down to what you prefer more.
Both are great bikes.

Thats a Duicati Board!!!!
Dont forget the TNT 1130 !

If you like it a little more exclusive without paying the 30% name Agusta wants check out Benelli.
But yeah...this is the Monster board and you definitely should not swim to the other side of the river.
Can you afford a Tricolore ? Then all the discussion is off the table...
The MV has a smaller wheelbase......

And that twin is also [drink] but you need a very good dealer close by
hi guys,
i've owned both a 910S and a S4Rs.the MV is a better bike to look at but the S4Rs is by far a finer a bike to ride.if you like an engine that you have to ring it's neck then the MV will appeal but personaly i like a toquey motor that is relaxing to ride.this year i exchanged the brutale for a hyper-retard,wow what a ride.hope this helps out.

HELL YEAH!
The Brutale is stupidly gorgeous.
I would go with a used SV 650.... [wine]... just kidding
Wait for the 1078R [evil]
I've had a 910S for a couple years now, bought a left over 06 and got a great deal.
These have crap resale value and you can find a low mile 910s for around $9k. A lot of bike for the money NEVER EVER buy a new MV Agusta, you'll get killed if you want to unload it.
I actually prefer a twin but grew to love the Brute on a ride to the N. Ga mountains, one of the best handling bikes (for me) I've ever owned. It's got it's quirks but is hands down one of the most gorgeous naked bikes out there.
Chris
I prefer a twin also, but still had to take a Brutale out for a test ride at the local dealer.
I was serious enough about it to go back a second time for a (hopefully) non-emotional evaluation. It was just such a different bike than the Ducatis I had been used to.
The throttle was either "on" or "off". Committed would be a good way to put it, but you really had to watch it if you were leaned over. The short wheelbase made every weight transfer feel like it was amplified. Braking felt like it would be on its nose. 1st gear felt like it wanted to stand up. Not sold on that melted headlight.
I had heard the fueling can be mellowed out by a PC3 or equivalent, and I would also imagine that after a while the geometry would be a non-issue (look at how many people have a Hyper, for a "different" riding position). Have read that the gas mileage leaves something to be desired.
BUT, the rear view of the Brutale is sex personified. The sound of the exhaust wail will give you goosebumps, and the midrange rush is something to experience. I ended up getting a 2008 S2R 1000 instead, because I just love that punchy twin torque delivery.
One year since my test rides, the Brute is still there, so maybe other riders thought the same about the bike.
I'd love to have it in the garage as my third or fourth bike. But the S2R and the GS won't be getting sold. Just yet. I'm waiting for that winning lottery ticket, though.
note: I rode the 910 S, and honest to God, I don't see a reason that MV should be making a 1078. If the chassis felt twitchy with a 910, a 1078 is an express ticket to ER.
