Thought I would post a pic of just some of the many 620s that I race with. Why the thread title?...It just makes me laugh when people think of the 620 as being wimpy. [beer] And occasionally, people post threads asking about putting superbike tails and bodywork on a Monster. So, here you have a few examples...enjoy!

I agree, it's hot. He used 1098 bodywork and tail. If I remember correctly, he did not have to cut his to fit.

Yes B.I.R. Have you been there? It's an amazing track. So many fast guys come from here because it's such a fast track. In two weeks, we get to race the new short course for the first time and I can't wait!

[laugh] yes they do. And they like to pass SVs and middleweights [drink]
fantastico!!!!
nice work [thumbsup]
soo which one is yours?
Based on the sponsors listed, I'm guessing it's the #620 on the left. The nice copper and white paint
neato.
you have to get better pictures of the red and black 620 to show us how he put those body pannels on and such, that is such a clean look the fairing actually lines up with the trellis frame in the front form that picture almost perfectly. i want to know how to put that on so it works for my bike.
It aligns the same as mine and is attached the same way. You just can't see mine that well in that photo but it aligns perfectly too. He used 1098, I used 999. The 998 bodies don't align quite as well but they do fit with minimal cutting.
All of the bikes pictured use the same method...weld mount tabs onto the frame (just like a Duc superbike) then attach the upper with Dzus or whatever you prefer. Then machine a clamp to fit the front steering head. You then fabricate a fairing stay that attaches to said clamp.
It's not hard if you can fabricate.
Do they run hot?

Yes, until you install an oil cooler. Just one of the many things needed to make them track ready.

from what i can see i personally like how the 1098 body fits on the bike, but then again it could be that the angle is making it look cleaner, and the tail section is interesting. i like how that looks.
[thumbsup] Wow...just...wow.

What other mods are done to get 'em track ready?
wow...more pics and infos please [thumbsup]
Those are nice!

Re work forks or get new ones, shock, dual disk (unless it already has it), oil cooler, rearsets, raise exhaust, raise rear ride height waaay up (which requires an aftermarket or superbike adjuster), clipons, weld (braze) the weak point around the hinge on the bottom of the fuel tank, mount some type of fairing and number plates (if racing). These things are bare minimum. You won't have it right without doing these things. Oh and if racing...safety wire.
Recommended....bodywork, this requires a lot of fabrication and time but it makes a big difference. Upgrade Brake master cyl., convert to full floating disks (yours will warp otherwise), quality brake pads, plastic tank, aluminum swingarm, power commander/tuning. These things are recommended but not required.
Taking a stock 620M and doing all the work yourself, expect to spend $3K. That's being thrifty and creative keep in mind. It could easily be more depending on what components you buy or have to pay to get fabricated for you. I fabricated everything myself, and did everything but tuning myself. The original owner of bike 555 in the photo spent $10K. But he payed a shop to do it for him.

Dam. Yes I have seen those Pics B4. [thumbsup] [thumbsup]
I would love to run in that Class with a Ducati. But, I am such a cheap SOB that it just makes more sence to grab one of those SV650's that U guys keep kicking.
There seems to be a "calmer" maybe more track educated rider in that Class.
Anybody got a CHEAP Race ready 620 that they want to part with ? Not likey eh. Hmmm.
Just curious. Are the 620's holding there own on the straight aways ?

Not a chance. When a race ready 620 goes up for sale, it last for minutes...seriously.
Holding their own on the straights?
racing= yes
trackdays= no trophies awarded so it doesn't matter ;) seriously though, on a straight no, you won't keep up with an SV or middleweight but unless you're racing...who cares. I run one race with SVs and I can beat a few of them, but that's rider not bike.
next time you are out there take closer pictures of the black and red bike so that i can see how and whre he mounted the faring both front and back adn how clean it looks up close or doesnt' look.
thanks.
what year 1098?
If it's not a straight line performer, how do fairings help?
wow, I never knew you could do that with a 620...........what a versatile little machine!!!
will definitely consider it as a project whenever I get bored with the naked look

They're something else to scrape away before you get to the frame when you low-side. [thumbsup]
See guys..I told you the 620 is the fastest!! [cheeky]
Nice pic!!

Oh, I see. Framesliders..............
The copper one looks alot like a SV with it's tail and sharp angled exhaust. +1 on some close up pics. [bacon]
Can we make this a wimpy 620 thread?
If so, here's mine...

Nice pic!
Would it be possible to get a few more of the Red and Black bike on the far right? Specifically the rear of the bike where the seat meets the tail. It looks as though it has 1098 body work on it and I'd really like to see some detailed pics.
Thanks.
I don't have any pics of his. It is 1098 bodywork and he just attached the tail section to the stock seat. He cut the stock seat pad down to just the riders pad, then attached the new tail to the back of that. It does look real nice but that tail attachment is not that nice. It flops around a lot. When I come up behind him, it always looks like it's going to fall off, so I like to pass as quickly as possible. [laugh]
Does anybody know where the fairing on the yellow naked monster #83 (the bike beside #555) is from? I would like to get one of these for the race monster.
Thanks,
KNG

OMG, when I raced an Aprilia RS250, nothing rocked my world like smoking a GSXR1000 at Willow Springs big track... [laugh]
People said my 750 was wimpy. I hated that. Then I got an 848. I see what they were saying, but it's still rude!
Blkduc is the man!
What's up?! [thumbsup]
Welcome! Have a look around and say hi! [drink] Cheers!
Hey Oak! Welcome to the Monster forum. [beer]
Man I am so confused on what to do next year. Race prep my 620, get a 696, or buy a used 600 and just hit the track. Man I wish I was rich wouldn't be so hard to make such a simple decision. ;D

Well, if you were the guy I met the other day, you wouldn't have this dilemma. He owns 6 Ducs and the latest to his collection is a Desmosedic. Here's the kicker, he said he rarely rides them. Maybe around the block and that's it. Must be nice to have that kinda money.
SWEET BIKES!!!! did you make that yellow front fairing, is it a brand piece from another bike, or something ducati use to make? more pics of the yellow one?

i feel bad for that guy, to have all that stuff just to say "i have this stuff" but not really get to ride them or decide that he doens't want them. wtf? what is the point?
if the point is to say "i have all this stuff but don't use it much" then ok, he wins.
but if the point is to actually enjoy and beat the heck out of the bikes, well he may have 6 of them but its truly a shame.

It helps me...it helps me smile under my helmet as I'm passing a Monster with no fairing. [moto]
But seriously, it makes a huge difference at speed. Racing without one is crazy.

I agree, as track bikes, they look nice with the fairings on. [thumbsup]
