So I start to mount the Ohlins damper which should be a 5 min job right and what???? Remove front fender? The brake calipers and the front wheel!! Then loosen the handlebar and triple clamp bolts for the fork leg OMG!!! Then slide the clamp blah blah blah. Who's the rocket scientist that designed this thing. Why not just make it two pieces????

You can buy a split clamp.

...my ribs don't hurt so much. ;D
BCM sells them..not sure who makes them.

These guys?
You gotta loosen both forks at the triples and slide forks down, then slide clamp over fork. Easy if you have a lift that picks up the bike by the lower triple, but not five minutes easy.

Yes...
they don't do much online.
Give them a call. 603-524-4898
They'll ship anywhere, although their shipping charges are high IMO.
It also would not surprise me one bit if one of the sponsors here has the clamp you need also.

You only need to loosen one. It's not that difficult if you have a means to lift and support the bike. It does require front wheel removal.
Thank you, that will be much easier.

If you loosen both and lower both forks, you don't need to remove the wheel...
either way I would remove the front fender first. [thumbsup]
They can be damaged quite easily. [bang]
The whole job is easy and quite starightforward.
I would say no more than 30-45 minutes start to finish.
After you can do this----> [drink]
Thanks ducpainter! $38 bucks and its on it's way.

JTMOTO, if you don't mind - where did you get your damper and what was the price?
Why can I not see what I am typing? Any way I got it through my local dealer and they got it through Parts Unlimited. I know I paid way too much but I have to do things in cash so the old lady doesn't get pissed.

fwiw, if you haven't done the install yet, when I did mine I removed the upper triple clamp and slid the damn thing down, rather than fuss with the wheel. Much easier, IMHO...

stopintime, Hardracing.com had Ohlins products, including dampers, in stock at 20% off retail recently. That's the best price I've seen on new Ohlins stuff recently. It's a good shop. I've dealt with them many times in the past.

+1
Please excuse the newbie ( me ) will this fit the M696? I sent an e-mail to hard racing an hour ago no response I'm hoping the wealth of knowledge on this site would answer quicker.
Not an expert (me) would think that since the 696 frame has larger diameter tubes, the answer is no. I'm sure that you can get clamps for your bike though, maybe from one of the vendors mentioned earlier in this topic. There is also the issue of the geometric on each specific bike to consider. Moto Wheels (DMF sponsor [thumbsup]) have done research on 696 mods - they, if anybody, will now what to do.
Thanks i figured there would be something to complicate what would have looked badass. ( of course the whole functionality of it would be neat ) but just looking at the pic of what it would look like installed is uber badass.

Why not just leave the wheel, fender and lower triple alone. . . remove the upper triple entirely. . .
Cause i'm done... Finally
