There is a track day coming up, and I know there have been people who recently have had work done, or tires installed, or even new leathers (that you need to get a feel for). Lets work out all the kinks on a nice leisurely paced ride this Sunday. Zach, Catie, Bonnie and I are already in. Post up! Lets do this. [moto]

Sunday 9am? Where do we meet?
Well, we have 2-3 loops to choose from. We can do the FM-157(past AMS-A) to 916 to 51 to into Granbury, or the 917 in Burleson to 67 to 56 to 67 (Burleson/Cleburne/Granbury/Glenrose) or we can do the big loop around Weatherford Mineral Wells that they did when we were in Arkansas. Lets find out who all's in and what their thoughts are for a loop b4 we decide on a meeting place. Or there's the Starbucks on White Settlement Rd.
Starbucks at White Settlement and 820? Sounds good. Lets make that the meet place.

ADVANCED MOTORSPORTS OCTOBER TRACK DAY
Mark your calendars and get your bikes ready because the next Advanced Motorsports track day is rapidly approaching. October 18 at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, TX will be the next gathering of North Texas Ducatisti.
Ever seen a Desmosedici on the track? No? How about 10? Prepare for a cacophony of 16 valve music as they will all take the track together in the morning and afternoon. Knowing the owners, they will not be going at a pedestrian pace.
Andrew Bell's famous BBQ Brisket will be there again this year. If you missed it last year, Andrew's BBQ was the hit of the weekend and left everyone drooling just thinking about it for the better part of the next month.
Although we love our Ducatisti brothers and sisters, the AMS track day is open for all European makes. Four-cylinder brands from the Far East need not apply.
7:00am - Gates Open
7:30-8:30am - Sign Up and Tech Inspection
8:30am - Riders Meeting
9:00am-5:00pm - Track Time
Groups will be divided into Novice, Intermediate and Expert. All Novice sessions will have instructors on the track as well.
$175 - Pre-entrance
$200 - Day of event
We hope to see all of you there!

Hmmm...I see you're living WEST of the Trinity...ah yes, the air is fresher out here on the lone prarie...where the dear and the antelope play. And where seldom is heard a discouraging word. I see what you mean too about the difference between flash and flush. It's always been said out here in THE WEST, "Flush twice, Dallas needs the water".

Route looks pretty nice. I wish I'd read this sooner, so (at this late hour) this is merely an FYI/Warning.
Hwy 4 is awesome!
Hwy 4 right now, is a PITA.
Hwy 4 right now is closed in Santo. (bridge repair)
The detour is about 5 miles. 2 or 3 miles is on the worst gravel, narrow, mixed blacktop, pothole, sandy, gravel road you can imagine. It's not impassible, but it's definitely something you and your bike is going to pucker up while traversing. Just need to be extremely careful. However, once through the detour, we're back on track on Hwy 4.
Which way is this loop planning to go? Clockwise or counterclockwise? I vote counterclockwise. Why? Hwy 4 (between Palo Pinto and Santo) is generally considered more fun when traveling from north to south - but either direction is still great fun (sometimes worth backtracking a time or two!).
Based on the ride that TL, CJ, and myself took in this same area a couple of weeks ago, I have revised the route (proposed, of course). 199 out of Lake Worth is pretty straight and boring. I propose going from Lake Worth to Grandbury, then north to 199. (modification #1 from Tommy's proposed route).
Then, I've updated the route through Santo to reflect the "detour of destruction". (modification #2)
As you can see, the detour doesn't miss much of Hwy 4 (about half of a mile).
The proposed route change to skip 199 comprises two very fun roads (1886 & 730) that you already had on the route, plus 920 going north out of Weatherford. It's a nice 12-ish miles of rolling hills and sweeping straights (is that an oxymoron) across some very nice pavement.
http://tinyurl.com/4meewf (http://tinyurl.com/4meewf)
Absolutely, the proposed route was merely a suggestion. I have never been there. I am open for any and all changes, and either direction. [thumbsup]
that route looks great Jimbo [moto] [beer]
Ok, HAL9000 says that the most efficient coefficient of fun is to from SB's: Back to I-30 west to Weatherford, up 281 past Minnie Wells to Graford, down 4 through Palo Pinto south and do the Granbury run and back up 377 to 820.
Anyone agree?

I respectfully disagree. [evil]
I-30/20 west from 820 to 281 is 39mi of boring superslab. [puke] Not only boring, but usually crowded with cages and trucks and higher ratio of LEOs. [leo]
Although, I do respect your goal - get to Hwy 4 as quickly as possible. [thumbsup] Even 180 from Weatherford to Mineral Wells is super boring for a scooter. :-\ But I'd suggest 180 out of Weatherford to Mineral Wells before using I-20 (due to traffic).
My proposed route isn't efficient, but covers some fun roads for scooters. Unfortunately, to keep the trip focused on the best part of Hwy 4, taking either Tommy's or my proposed route would eat up a LOT of time . :-[ We're talking about 2.5 hours just to get to Hwy 4!
Too many variables, not enough time. So, here's my proposed last-minute-compromise...
http://tinyurl.com/4eg2bm (http://tinyurl.com/4eg2bm)
This is a mix between your suggestion of "efficiency", and mine of "fun".
1) no superslab
2) uses 180 instead of I20 to get west (still boring, but less traffic)
3) less twisties and northern wanderings - gets us to Hwy 4 faster
4) cuts out a trip to Grayford (Hwy 4 from Grayford to Palo Pinto looks mostly straight and boring)
5) if we reach Santo too quick, there's always the option of making a couple north/south passes of Hwy 4 before someone calls the cops
6) still gives us a healthy southern loop
7) if we get to Weatherford too fast, we can call an audible and extend the route by continuing west or just keep with the plan and head back north to Weatherford
Hope you kids have a fun & SAFE ride [thumbsup] [moto]

It was nice to finally meet some of you [thumbsup] I had an excellent time watching Ronr and Jim work on the carbs! Nothing like beer, pizza and cigars while others work ;D
Well, can't speak for Dan but by the look on his face I think he's in agreement with me that it was a great (abreviated) ride. It's enjoyable to ride with this group. Charles (sticky fingers) thinks the same too. No attitudes and low key guys and gurls make for a great bunch. Now if we can get the machines to get in line we'll be ok. Hang in there Lyndy and Jim. How did the bike turn out? Carbs working as should now?

I need to start working out. Now Bon's chest and biceps are bigger than mine
Good times! Great people!
Thanks to everyone!
will post up pics later tonight ;)
Had fun. Thanks to everyone for putting up with me.

Dan and Charlie CAME BACK!?! WTH??? [laugh
Is this something like a dangling participle? he he....
Ditto Lisa's post earlier ,great job Jim on the pace and the route. Hope Lyndy's bike is feeling better soon.
Lisa, really now, how could we NOT be back??? Today exemplified the fact that this is just the same as a bunch of neighborhood kids that like to play together every chance they get. I think we had a blast.
I do have to say that today's bunch in leathers looked so freaking cool together!! I'd nominate our staff of Feme Fatales for AMS fashion show runway models anyday! You gals looked great today! Zach, dude, loved the "I just crashed and lived thru it in these leathers and still have the track dirt still on them to prove it look". Love ya man you're beautiful in those... [thumbsup] Dan, did well with the retro look too. All in all (except for the Santa Claus in the red suit look guy) the group showed well.
On that same thread, last week when making the reservations at The Covey the girl asked me what we were? I said we're not a bunch ragged out bikers but rather most of the people with us spend more money on their gear than most people do to furnish a house with furniture. It showed today.
In fact I have another cool spot for a Westies Flash Mob Thursday.....hmmmm....You'll like this one very much if the weather holds out....

When people here my age (like you did today...shhhhh) they all ask the same question. Do you color, have you had hair transplants, where is the gray...that sort of thing. To set the record straight, it's 100% real, a couple of strays on the side is all. My son wanted me to grow my hair out this summer since we go skateboarding sometimes together, so I let it grow some and just haven't gotten it cut yet. But thanks for posting the pictures I know now what has to be done tomorrow before gym time.

Glad to see everyone today. Lisa, glad you made it! Jim and Lyndy cool bikes (and suit). RonR even made it out, funny thing is he was riding his old school 900rr with a 12 o'clock bar with so much use, it was bent. Ron even wore a Rough Riders hat. I think he's taking this in-line 4 thing a lil too serious. If you all see him buzzing the Sonic's, call me...... Dosgatos, dude, you ride the piss out of that 695. I take off on my SBK and everytime I look in the mirror, your right there on my ass. Charles, glad to finally meet you. If the 59ers are anything like you, they're alright in my book. Charlie, the suit looked great, and the bike looked even better [thumbsup] To comment on a few posts back, you should wear it at Christmas and deliver presents on your Duc. Grow a beard though. Bonnie, the new 2 pc looked hot! I really enjoyed riding behind you! :o Zach, thanks for having us over! It's always so interesting to go to your house. You got so much cool shit! (BTW, I still need your ICE info) Catie, you did great again on the 696. The bike has some cool sounds coming from those termi's.
On a side note to Jim and Lyndy.... RichD called me and we talked about your cutting out at around 6K. Let me see if I can relay this correctly, if I get it wrong, maybe he'll chime in and correct me. The bikes come here set very lean to pass emissions. Then when you add new air filters, unrestricting exhausts, open air boxes, etc.. it will cause it to run even leaner. More air flow without the fuel to match, When your M600 is riding up in the higher rpm range (6k-7k) the bike is really pulling as hard as it can for air, and you're not getting the fuel to match that, which in turn is causing it to bog down and cut out. Invest in a jet kit. I bought a Dyna Jet jet kit for my R1 for $100.00. I would try that before anything else. Good luck. [moto]
Good seeing everybody and riding around for a bit.
I wish the problem with the bike was more simple, I was hoping to see an obvious problem, but it all looked pretty straight. I think RichD must be right, that it's a tuning issue. The jet kit is probably a good idea with the open airbox and exhaust you have. Hope y'all got home okay. Let us know how it goes.

Lyndy, just bought a Factory Pro kit from CA Cycleworks. It's a little more expensive ( 150ish$$) but a very nice kit. Made a huge diff. on the SS.
Sorry to spoil the ride everybody! [bang] I had a good time today though ;D
Slag and Catie thanks for being so generous - you guys ROCK [thumbsup]
Ron you're awesome! Thank you so much for cleaning my carbs!
It was nice to see Dan and Charles again :)
Good to meet you Charlie - hope to see you again soon.
Lisa we'll have to do it again soon - I'm glad you could make it! [beer]
Bonnie the suit looks HOT don't let anyone tell you different - not that anyone would ;)
Jim thanks for letting me ride the SC :-*
Guys, what a bitter-sweet day.
Thanks for all the help and support on Lyndy's bike. We're really sorry that it ruined what would have been a really awesome ride for so many people. For that, I'm really sorry. We had hoped that the new fuel filter we installed the day before might cure our ails.
Nevertheless, this turned out to be a really interesting day with a bunch of awesome people. I leared a LOT by helping Ron disassemble the bike, and then watch HIM do all the carb work. Really Ron, what do I owe you? You're hourly rate must be at least $75/hr - and how long were you at it? Whatever it is, it's not enough for ruining your ride. :(
Seriously though, we're really bummed it wasn't an easy fix (if you can call pulling, tearing down, and cleaning carbs and easy fix). But we're happy to have had so many people just willing to participate in the experience for the sake of comradere! Too cool.
Here's some pics of the non-ride, impromptu wrench day at Slag & Aerogeek's house. (OH - AND BIG THANKS TO YOU GUYS for opening your home to a band of derelicts; the drink, the food, the accomodations - more than words can say - but thanks, thanks, thanks!)
The bike made it home without stalling. (Lyndy rode it home). I think it continued its shinanigans, but now that we know how to "ride around/throught it", I think the ride home was a little easier than it would have been otherwise.
Without further ado... the pics!

What was the problem with Lindy's Monster? When it was in Randy's hands for some work recently he and I discussed the inner tank rust issue and how it could be a possible recurring problem. Tell me we were wrong and it was something else. I would hate to think you need to POR-15 treat the tank now after the killer paint job has been applied. I have no idea what the issue is or if POR-15 has any ill effect on paint. Just hope it was/is something real simple. What gives?

Too much air - running too lean...

Great!! I am glad it's not a potential tank rust problem. Tuning and jetting is a lot easier to chase down than the cursed tank rust disaster. [thumbsup] Hey, in the good old days everyone was constantly messing with their carbs and jet kits. Ahhh, the good old days! Well, by the pic on the "Naked" thread it looks like she's going to be more Naked than Naked Bonnie. Whoo Hoo! Two DWFMer gals going to tradin paint in the corners! (so to speak). Which brings up the thought of why Lisa, you're not doing track day this weekend? We need that big ol trailer set up to give us some panache don't you think?
I do track days the old school way; I ride to the track [evil]
Yes, of course, I look like a total dork (O.K. more so than usual) cruising through morning traffic with my snazzy race-day leathers but so what? I know the soccer moms in their minivans are secretly very jealous they can't wear track day leathers on their morning commute...
Which brings up an interesting point: maybe THEY ARE. I've just never bothered to look... Hmmmm, the plot sickens.

Completely--the open box is something we discussed on one of the runs for possibly contributing to the lean condition.
Lyndy--if covering part of the box helps, you are more than welcome to use my cover at the track (it should fit, yes ?). Since my bike will be parked :-\, I will not be needing it. ;)
How'd the plugs look?
I'm sure they'll tell you that the bike is waay lean with the open airbox and free-er breathing exhaust.
I bet if you put the stock lid and cans back on, it'll be a lot happier. That or get new jets that will accommodate the extra air mass that's entering/exiting the motor.

Hard to tell from the picture. All the aftermarket needles I've seen have more of a taper than on the M600. The needle pictured looks more tapered than the Monster, but still not as much as I'm used to.
RichD told me that even the stock Mikuni needles have those cuts for the e-clip, so that may not be a good way to tell. Yours also had a big nylon disk under the e-clip, like a spacer. The photo doesn't show that disk. I'm thinking you guys have a stock setup, but Monster needles may just look a lot different from Jap bike needles.
