As most of you guys and gals know, I'm doing the same charity fund raising (Team in Training (http://www.teamintraining.org/) for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (http://www.lls.org/all_chap))as William.
This is just a feeler to see if there's interest just inside this group for a poker night for charity in January.
Low buy in and a nice prize for whoever takes all the chips at the end of the night.
I figure it's a good excuse to get together, drink, have a cigar or two and play some cards.
Any interest?
So far we have
Bryant (buy-in recorded)
Cyclone (buy-in night of w/ biz check)
Dallas2r (buy-in recorded)
DLS (but-in recorded)
CJ (buy-in recorded)
Malynn (buy-in recorded)
tommy (buy-in recorded)
TresGatos (buy-in night of w/ check)
mckraut (buy-in recorded)
Thanks for getting the buy-ins done!

;D If this lands on a day when I am available ( pretty busy ) we could use my studio for this. [roll] It's no "warehome" but it does have HEAT, lights, & a couple of bathrooms ! [bacon] Very close to AMS Dallas where Oak Lawn dead ends into the river.
Sounds like McKraut is already bluffing [laugh]
Donald that would be great! I'll PM you about that.
Here are my preliminary thoughts.
I'd like to try and fill out 2 tables (16 players, any more and it will probably be a really long night) so I can justify buying new chip sets [thumbsup]
I'm thinking tourney style play with increasing blinds on a timer. Buy-in will be TBA donation to TNT.
Start w/ $800-1000 chips or so and play until you win/lose them all. [thumbsup]
Winner gets a nice prize [thumbsup]
I'd be interested in this. Will watch as the details and specifics unfold. [popcorn]
I'm all in.

most clubs on NW hwy allow both...... You can also try some up-scale, compared to NW hwy, like Republic and so forth off of McKinney.
Any more news on this? I'd be interested for sure.

A bit of details...
Looks like we're shooting for the first weekend in Feb... That would be Feb 6/7/8.
Donald has offered us the use of his studio, but I'm still going to try and find another location for comparison sake
Just off this thread there are about 9 folks who are interested. Any others interested?

For safety reasons: DO NOT BRING CASH!!!
This is a public forum and people we may or may not know can read this thread.
Remember this is a charity fund raising event, and no cash will be present at the event.
If people bring both cash and guns, that should be pretty safe, I'd say.

Seriously though, I know of a few "home" games that got hijacked b/c word spread that a few thousands dollars were in play.
no such place
Gosh, no $1000 game? I thought that was the blind, guess I'll slum around a bit and play in the nickle dime game, it IS for charity after all.
Steve
Ok, I understand not to bring cash to the game. But, if it is for charity, i'm assuming money will change hands at least with the host, no? When would you like payment?
So far, I'm in by the way. That is unless I get back into town late on the 6th. I'm guessing you're thinking around 7pm-ish? Do we have a location?
Steve
I should have a laptop out there where you can donate online to my fundraising site. If you prefer check you can make it out to: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
If it's ok w/ Donald I think his studio will probably be the best location. I'll work on the time part of the equation. I'll need to coordinate with Donald on when I can start getting it set up.

Ok, the check idea sounds good. What will be the buy-in minimum/starting chip count? Do you have a blind schedule? Do you need any chips? I have a bunch of non counterfeitable custom chips. I have an oval poker table that will seat 8 comfy. Not pretty but it will do the job.
Will there be cigar smoking at the table?

The place is big enough to have a non-smoking area closed off from the smoking area, so if Bryant wants to accomodate non-smokers - we can make that happen. Is that what you are asking ? :)

Steve, the buy-in/starting chip count hasn't been set yet. A few people I've talked about this have said that $50 would be suitable them (Maybe a $25rebuy if you so desire) There will be a blind timer on to speed the game up.
It's looking like we'll have about 16 players (10-11 on the DMF and Malynn is looking for a few more). So I might need more chips, I was going to look for those this weekend. But if we can use yours that would be great!

I hope people don't think that b/c this is a poker game it'll be about gambling. Most card games like this one are usually sitting around BSing/drinking/listening music while playing cards. I had a few people over on Sat to play for fun (no money involved) but it was still a great time. [thumbsup]

i would totally like to see this on some kind of monthly basis...
that said... watch out for mckinney ave.... i was pulled over on my way home earlier (i was about 2 mins away from my apt...) i was pretty much read the riot act...sitting on the curb etc. i had to go through the whole deal (i was very upfront with both officers....i don't think either of them was over 21 yrs. old, though). after about 45 mins and no less than three different sobriety tests, i was released back into the wild to make my [safe] way back to my apartment. i had to walk different straight lines, read neon signs across the street, and jump on one foot (my bad one, incidentally....i never like running on it, not that that matters), to prove that i wasn't "drunk"......
all that though, and i'm pretty sure my use of the word "hooah" saved me. the younger guy of the pair (the more "gung-ho") was also more receptive to my use of military terms...and towards the end of everything asked me what branch i was in....to which I said Army...and I think that clenched it. But I can't help but wonder if I would be sitting in lockup right now if I didn't have the proper use of "hooah" down.... scary shit. Just a useful note to people to stay away from McKinney Ave. on weekends, I guess. I can only figure I was just pulled over for being "loud"..... I wasn't being stupid/fast. (am I ever??)

:o Dang man, glad to hear that ended well.

same here...just a gentle reminder for all of us to be safe and smart out there. really, i was probably asking for some kind of harassment (why does that not sound right?) just given the street, my bike, and what time it was. so, next time around it's probably better to not pick the "scenic" route home. i just wanted to see how uptown's doing.... pretty busy, it turns out. /shrug
thanks again for everybody that turned out last night; it was a good time, despite getting absolutely spanked by scott. mr. "how do we play this game again"??? riiiiiight.
dude, seriously, last night was my 1st time to play Hold 'Em. If I hadn't watched that little video, I would not have even known how to play...
Just a series of lucky hands, that's all. It would have been equal fun if I had been the 1st one out [thumbsup]
;D Great time last night - I am actually sore from playing so much pong - that last hour of sober up pong was probably the culprit & being eliminated so early from poker! :-\ Has anyone heard rom Miss M ? I was concerned about her getting home! ???
Rich - glad we played that last hour of pong & your coolness prevailed with the Leos - you did not seem overly toasted when you left - those Arrows definitely point at you when you are riding - I like my <90 db pipe because I am here & gone before anyone [leo] even notices & no ear plugs which give me one more sense to use riding. You can't have been drunk because you pulled over - in essence no mirrors to see the lights, earplugs & Arrows covering a siren, you must have used some paranormal powers - spahgetti monster sense ? - to know they wanted you ! [laugh]
Guess I need cots for the studio - because we are definitely doing this again !!
Thanks George for the Taboo I smoked ! Thanks Dan for the Rocky I will enjoy later ! Thanks Will & Scott for spanking me at ping pong ! Thanks Miss M for spanking me with the pong paddle - I was a bad boy ! Thanks Tommy for enduring a night of Zepplin & giving Scott SOME competition ! Thanks Rich for being so entertaining & taking pix ! Most of all thanks to Bryant for your support of LLS with such a fun and awesome evening ( and for leaving a lot of beer ).
I really find this fun (poker), healthy ( bicycle riding ) approach to supporting charity very inspirational! You are awesome and exemplary friends that I am proud to know ! [beer]

Man, sorry to hear about the hassle...
All that sobriety testing was really a waste of time, IMO. I mean they could have called any one of us, and we would have definitely vouched for the cat-like reflexes and amazing hand-eye coordination you displayed playing ping-pong. ;D
Damn, Rich! I'm glad to hear that you didn't spend the evening in the drunk tank
I really want to thank all of you guys for coming out and having a great time playing cards and helping me with my fund raising!
Donald, what can I say... your place is a great place to have card games. Thanks a ton for letting us raid the studio for a few hours.
Scott, your new name is the "Hustler"
you know rich i once had a cop look at my gym bag that read "camp pendleton baseball " and he gave me a ticket after stating how he was in the navy and he hates marines. just be glad you didn't get that jerk off mansfield cop. young or not at least it was a brother.

Great shots Rich ! - that was a super fun evening - that no motos were dropped that evening was a minor miracle ! haha [moto]
I feel kinda bad though that I let people leave that possibly should not have been driving - I know everyone got home and it was all fine but I would have been devastated if something had happened to anyone. I promise that I will be more careful in hosting in the future, and if I have any misgivings I will deal with it differently no matter how troublesome or inconvenient !
There is nothing to feel bad about here but luck belongs in poker games - not making it home - and I share my feelings about this that we may all learn a larger lesson. [beer]
