I found this yellow helmet on ebay today for $125. Not sure it is a real Arai or Ducati but for $125 it was worth the gamble since it matched my 999

The only reason i would buy a used helmet would be just for decoration.... this is the last thing we gable in safety....
To answer your question, no Ducati and Arai never made a yellow helmet, Arai and Ducati started colaboration in 2006 they never made solid color helmets this one looks like old Quandum with a couple Ducati stickers...
If you want a Helmet buy a New one ...... my2cents
Hey, you can not get a yellow Arai, I have one.... [laugh]
I second what Giannis said buy a new one I would have thought your head is worth more than $125.. ;D
I third his thoughts... is that right? ??? To quote an old Bell helmet ad: if you have a five dollar head, then buy a five dollar helmet.
I'll fourth the thoughts as well.
I wouldn't mess with my noggin.
All those stickers are available on ebay, you could make your own custom "Ducati" helmet with any lid [thumbsup]
Is it possible he bought a helmet others are paying $500 for and, due to some fortuitous circumstances (destiny?), he was able to acquire it for a mere $125... thus he would not have a $125 head, he has a $500 head - like the rest of us snobs?
Congratulations on your $375 savings, my friend. Looks good. The Ducati stickers make it an official Ducati helmet... just like all the others with Ducati stickers.

Buying used helmets is like buying used condoms.....
Arai helmets have a 5 year expiration date
if you drop a helmet from a couple feet distance from the ground can make the helmet useless in the spot but not visible from outside (interior foam absorves the impact) but very dangerous if you hit the helmet at the same spot again..
Would be
safer to buy a $150 helmet of a leser brand (KBC, NOLAN, SCORPION,ICON) than buy a used ARAI, SHOEI, SUOMY...
Goes on easier that way

let the man have his helmet! no one knows the condition.
I agree
everyone just sounds so damn smug about it. Im sure this isnt his only helmet. Maybe he just wants to hang it in his garage beside his 999
Darn ..... wish I would have waited for all your replies before I leaped at a ?? good deal ??
All I know about the helmet is it is from an estate sale. I sure hope the guy wasn't wearing it when he passed away [bang]

I wouldn't say they sound smug, just their opinion on how they buy helmets. The thing with buying a helmet sight unseen, is the risk of getting a helmet that is beyond it's "service life" or not as advertised. I personally wouldn't buy a used helmet unless I knew the person and they were upfront about the (ab)use the helmet received. Like other, it's just a personal preference. Gear is a personal thing and everybody has their price points and brand preference.
To add to the helmet convo, I am in the market for a new helmet seeing that my Shoei is around the 5 year mark and my Arai needs to be retired due to my crash and it being ill-fitting now. I talked to Peter at MotoLiberty and will be getting sized up for a new lid soon. And yes both were sent off to get inspected after meeting asphalt.

I guess this is not a good time to mention that sometimes I don't even wear a helmet. :o

Dude! You're gonna need mo' than flame resistant for this group [evil]
Seriously. You don't wear a helmet sometimes? I've thought about it on occasion when the weather's been nice but it's usually right about then I get a big honkin' junebug careening off my helmet making me not only glad I've got a helmet on, but that I'm wearing earplugs too!
Not sure how that would work out sans hat :-X
Besides, if I didn't wear a helmet, I'm sure I'd get run off the road by irrate motorists. Anyone else yell at people in traffic? [evil]

Are you one of the guys that has the helmet strapped to the tail of their bike? Seriously sometimes I want to run those guys off the road just to teach them a lesson. :-\

Dood, check out the HJC CF helmet. I also have an Arai but always were the HJC. Not quite as plush but lighter and cooler, feeling and looking!

Constantly. Whether on the bike or in the car. I agree with Jester in part. I feel like running dumbasses off the road every day. Aggressive and clueless dumbass auto drivers absolutely push my "want to kill" button. Reading the thread about the commute from hell had me grabbing for my Glock. I don't ride or drive that way and never have. Worked too many fatality truck/auto accidents when I worked for a trucking company years ago. I was the company representative and contact person for all vehicular accidents and cargo claims. A huge majority of the accidents were idiotic four wheeler drivers doing stupid s#@t around an 18 wheeler. Of course we were sued every time and the damn insurance companies were all too happy to settle. >:( Can you tell it still pisses me off? :P Oh well, it firmly entrenched my hatred of a##hole drivers... and being a bike rider makes it even worse.
OK, end of rant.

Er, ah, actually no. I enjoy riding with my helmet about 99% of the time. The other 1%? I want to go without, so I leave without. So I guess I won't have to worry about you killing me (on purpose anyway).
it's an individual choice and that's it.

Thanks for the advice on the HJC lids. I'll be sure to check them out [thumbsup]
Competition Accessories has some screaming deals on helmets right now. ;D

I was kidding about the run off the road part! However I do find it comical to bring a helmet along for a ride and lock it to the side of your tail. Not sure I understand what the point is. Maybe it can help save the bike in the event of a lowside. :P
The helmet on the back is for picking up ugly women. Your buddies will not know that she is a butterface when she is wearing a full face lid [beer]

I would add that my helmet makes riding MORE enjoyable that same 99% of the time. Flying Texas Bugs (FTB), pebbles, highspeed dump trucks with loads of sand, etc., really irriate my delicate complection when they collide with my face at speed.
Though this doesn't help my standing regarding non-usage, one day running about 80 mph
sans helmet I had a bird (a sparrow I think) fly out in front of my face. I didn't even have time to duck. At the last nano second the bird's flight path went up a bit, and its wing tagged my forhead. Hardly felt it, but I was lucky it wasn't a full bird beak first into the frontal lobes.

I will check them out also. I would like to get a new helmet soon. The Rossi hit in the second wreck but it didn't bust like the Arai so I figured it was okay. Maybe not so after reading some of these things. I have had a Suomy, Arai, and AGV. The Arai was the most comfortable and certainly did a wonderful job when i went down. I wouldn't buy used unless I knew the person and had some history on the helmet. I will certainly be shopping for the best deal though, and I don't blame anyone for doing that! I do know that if you go down your gear is the most important thing! Unfortunately, even the most minor trauma to the head has the potential to cause significant problems.
If you find Arai comfortable, try Scorpion. Also, you can try sending helmet to manufacturer's helmet inspection service. When mine scraped the ground during one of my offs, I had it sent to Arai and they sent it back with a formal letter indicating damage was cosmetic and helmet was safe as of the date of inspection. I still wear it most of the time though I have its twin as a backup (new year's day sale at Cycle Gear was too tempting).

If it is your own, it should be ok right? Just might take a while to roll it up perfectly to fit back in the package. [thumbsup]
[Disclaimer: don't do what I just said. That's just not cool] [laugh]
