I'm on the Big Island with a Monster 1100 & paying $600 per year through Progressive. That seems kinda high.
Does that sound about right?
It all depends on your age, riding background experience, amount of coverage and bunches of other factors. That doesn't sound bad though. I'm what you would call an insurance favorite and I think I pay more than that on a new 848 through GEICO and they were a damn site bit better than Progressive when I last inquired.
Yea, I would give Geico a call. I don't remember what Progressive quoted me, but I do know that Geico was significantly lower.

I'm 41. I've had a MC license continuously since I was about 24. Own my house (weirdly this is a factor they look at). I've had a total of two speeding tickets in my life (love radar detectors [thumbsup]).In the last ten + years, the only accident i've been in was getting rear ended while stopped at a light. Seems like I would qualify for a good rate. The only thing I'm missing is a Motorcycle Safety Course, which isn't offered here on the Big Island.
I got a quote from Progressive on the 848...looked at one when I got the Monster...they wanted something like $2k a year!!! That is more than the full coverage on my wife's Audi!!!
that's about what I pay for my 620 from progressive.
31, no tix/accidents (ever), full coverage.
geico can suck my balls. I saved $1400/year by switching FROM them when I bought my gti
Yep. Geico wanted $2k a year for the Audi w/o comprehensive coverage. That's why I didn't talk to them about the Monster. I figured they'd be too high.
Who are you guys insured with now? I was using USAA when living in the UK and in Germany, shopped around and found out that Geico was significantly cheaper that USAA (and everyone else for that matter) on all of my vehicles.
allstate for car (when I bought the bike, they had an "all ducati" exclusion for bikes. idk about now, though)
progressive for bike
was going to look into a homeowner's policy w/allstate so I can combo the car... and ask about the bike again. but I'm lazy like that

Did you buy the place you just moved into?
yes
Cool man, congrats! When is the house/condo warming party?
thanks
ummm... idk... I suppose when I get some furniture, and finish unpacking and whatnot
I've got Allstate for my homeowners insurance...
I might check if I can get a deal by switching the car & Duc to them also.

lmk if it works! [thumbsup]
I have the USAA for everything. I have always had bad luck with Geico, even as a gov't employee. The last time I tried them (about 3 years ago), they wanted to charge me about 50% more for just two cars and a bike than I was paying at the time for two cars, a bike, and homeowners insurance.
even I'm not that dumb.
Strange how there seems to be absolutely no consistency with how Geico quotes people.

Isn't USAA for military personnel only?

[laugh] [laugh] [laugh] "thailer" That cracked me up [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
Sadly, no military benies for me...I've already paid Progressive for the year...screwed or not I guess I'll deal with it until next year.
I had Progressive on my Superhawk for 7 years, when I called GEICO several years ago they declined to cover me because I didn't have a garage to keep the bike in, carport didn't qualify...that said, I now have GEICO for the SF because they are almost $400 a year cheaper than Progressive...this time around they didn't ask me where the bike would be kept, go figure...

That's too funny. GEICO always has asked me where the bike lives. I have to tell them at home with two Dobie Rots guarding it in a garage or it's at work with motion & light beam detectors on alarm system. True story.
I Know i am a few months late but thought id add my 2 cents seeing as how i just got insurance for my 848 3 weeks ago
i am 31, no accidents or tickets in the last 10 years, single, no kids, i have over 6 years of experience riding however newer got a license or safety class ( signed up for one in November and am currently rocking a permit) and will have the bike locked inside my house when i am not riding it. i am renting my home and i have no cars or any other vehicles insured in hawaii ...all questions both places asked when filling out the form i dont know why but they did... anyways
progressive quote $1500
geico quote $1300
state farm $800 and when i get my license and safety class the price will go down 10 - 20 % the agent told me
so state farm it is for full coverage on my 2009 duc 848 [thumbsup]

Interesting. Progressive was cheaper for me...maybe because I already have a car insured with them.
Which island are you on?

Like I said, there is no sense/consistency what so ever with how people are quoted down here.
And he is one of us. [moto]
I should've known he was on the "other side"
a couple of weeks ago I saw a Ducati sport bike (848, 1098, 1198) not sure which.
I was stopped after riding a twisty section and the sport bike went past.
Dying to know who/what it was.

Hallucination? Or maybe just an ordinary figment of your imagination? Been eating any new mushrooms on your pizzas?
Nope. None of the above.
It was early on a Saturday morning... the day of the LavaMan race.
I figured all the [leo] would be up here so I cruised down south. Shitload of riders out doing the same thing I was.
It is a rare thing to see another Duc over here
Then again, I don't suppose we can absolutely rule our hallucination
