Title: another twin to the family
Post by: muskrat on July 20, 2009, 07:16:07 PM
not quite as light as the Streetfighter I was looking at but there's no way in HELL I'm paying $3k to fix that hideous exhaust.  Another Monster is soon to be in the stall I hope.  [moto]
I drop her off tomorrow for the PC5, big air kit and pipes to make her piss off cagers.  Soon a big bore kit.....yeah right!

Hey, let me know about your PC-V experience. The new Busa has two injectors per cylinder like the new Gixxers so the PCIII really doesn't hack it like it did on the older Busas. It need the PC-V. I lost my PC guru, Steve Upchurch, he left/got canned from the Yamaha shop he worked at. He probably tuned 90% of the north texas race bikes that competed in CMRA. He did awesome Power Commander work on my older Busa and GSXRs. I would really like the new Busa to be PC-V tuned for its Yosh exhaust but don't know where to turn given the loss of Steve Upchurch. Help!

go to metrictech.net website.  Ask for Dean and tell him I sent you.  He's an expert with Dyno and PC's.  He's also been National Tech Director for AMA and Certified FIM Technical Inspector.  He's an honest guy who will tell you like it is.  Beware though, if you give him shit he's good at comebacks.  I always have fun there.

Whoa!  That's a really nice ride  8)  Not really good with my Harley variants yet but it looks like that's  an Electra Glide?  Whatever it is - that's one road-going sled  [thumbsup]  Nicely done.

it's certainly a road queen.  And yes it's an Electra Glide.  Someone stop the rain so I can take her to the shop damnit!

Oops, I left this out of my PC-V post... nice sled. [thumbsup] And just to aggravate LYD you got it in the fastest Harley color!!! [laugh] [clap] [bacon] Are you getting rid of your other cruiser? Or is this just adding to the stable? ;D

Hey, thanks for the info on the PC tech!

thanks!
I'm afraid to say that the Roadie is gone.  The trade-in was only $500 off what retail would have been and I didn't want to deal with it selling.  I would have kept it and made it a bobber if the wife would have agreed to put her car outside......obviously I lost that argument; excuse me, it was a discussion.

My wife has that same delusion. It's like her car is scared of the sunlight and outdoors. Had this discussion with folks last Saturday. If I move her car out of the garage and into the driveway so I can use that space to move a bike that needs some work I can almost guarantee you that the door to the house will be flung open within seconds with her asking how long her car will be in the driveway! I think she could be in the other end of the house, in the shower, and she'd instantly know that her car was out of the garage! It's like she has a remote motion detector and can tell if the car has been moved. I tell her that cars like being outdoors in the fresh air and it's nice for my car in the driveway to have some company... it doesn't seem to help, she doesn't believe me. :P

Anyway, nice deal on the trade in. Sounds like it made good sense and saved you some hassle. Always good. [thumbsup]

I think the people we bought our house from had the same issue, they got around it by putting an extra set of doors on the garage that are too small to get a car through, and the project to remove said doors is way down on the priority list.

Oh almost forgot, Harley's are not my thing but it looks nice.

Muskrat, did you go through a HD dealer?  If so, would you recommend them?

Brian.......they all have the sensor installed in them.  can't find the off switch but I'm looking  [bang]

Andym & Greenohawk69, thanks.  I really like this luxury couch.  came home with more chrome today.  I'm wondering when the stimulus check will hit me, still need more goodies  [coffee]

Lisa, yes I did go direct and they are wheeling and dealing there.  PM me and I'll send you the place and sales guy's name.  Young kid but his sales manager came and basically put my hand up and said I'm in sales too so he can't bullshit me.  we sat, he called the owner and ran some numbers and we shook hands.  I went to three other dealers with quotes and made him negotiate.  I must say that the dealerships are much kinder now.  I had my Roadie 9 years so that's the last time I stepped into one to buy a new one.  Too bad Marty didn't call me back on a quote for my S2R or I might...............

You're right I've already got the bra off and got her stripped down to the bare frame. Added the clip ons, I'm just blacking out the wheels, but leaving the rims chromed, and the engine now. Adding some Vannce and Hines shorty exhaust and a Fat Bob tank (I like the extra mileage) painted flat black with a rebel flag on top. Then it's a Harley!

not even close, we don't ride with clip ons.

Seriously, after seeing Todd's on Saturday over at Scott;s and now yours... Well, I've always liked the looks of the Sportster.  Saw a blue 883 with solo seat the other day... Great looking ride.

Go ahead; embrace the Inner Cruiser  [evil]

that's a very well balanced bike.  fun to ride but you don't want to go to Colorado on that thing.  I did on my 650 and almost died.  I'd go for a 1200 instead.

What kind of 650 did you ride to Colorado?

Yamaha Vstar with Cobra pipes.  had no hearing left and she was wound up the whole way.  those little bikes are bullet proof

Didn't know Vstar came in a 650 sized bike. I bet that puppy was strung out in the higher altitude on those long uphill grinds!

If you're looking at a Sportster, I'd recommend getting the 1200 engine - Nightsters are pretty cool.  You'll want the bigger engine as the 883 is kind of a dog.

Muskrat,

Forgot to add, check out Klockwerks and their windshield for baggers.  They designed it on the Bonneville Salt Flats to flow the air around you better.  I believe they worked with FBI for the world's fastest bagger - 150+ mph.  You'll also want to look into True Track or Sputhe Engineering for their motor mounts as they're supposed to help in eliminating the rear wheel wobble.

Harley forum I'm on = www.HDForums.com (//http://)  They have individuals sections; Dyna, Touring, V-Rod, etc.

I remember years ago when the 883 Sportsters came out and Harley charged like $3,999 for them. The cool marketing deal was if and when you wanted to trade up to a bigger HD they would give you the full $3,999 purchase price on the 883 trade in!! How f#@king awesome was that??!! Talk about smart marketing! Get you on the most basic HD, ride it for a while, get you hooked and wanting a bigger Harley, then they offer you the full purchase price when you trade the 883 in on a big boy's bike. Genius. Don't know what they did with all those used 883 trade ins. Who cares, the bikes were basically corporate right offs for Harley. There is no telling how much money they made and how many bikes they sold using that trade in program. It got a generation of riders hooked on Harleys.

You may not care for Harley bikes or the HD "culture", etc. but you HAVE to give them credit for what they have done post-AMF. They may be hurting today (who the hell isn't!) but over the last several years they have kicked ass in marketing their bikes and the Harley name and image. They have done wonders managing their share of the market. [thumbsup]

the 09 doesn't need new motor mounts like previous models.  this one is very smooth.  as for the shield, I'll look into it.....clearview shields in CO is the company I used on my old bagger and it was the same.

are we gonna get the pigs on road sometime?

Sounds like a plan.  Just got back from Sturgis and I'm getting some additional work done.  Horrible pop-up gas cap that leaks.  Probably be about 2-3 weeks before I get it back.
