Seriously, after seeing Todd's on Saturday over at Scott;s and now yours... Well, I've always liked the looks of the Sportster.  Saw a blue 883 with solo seat the other day... Great looking ride.

that's a very well balanced bike.  fun to ride but you don't want to go to Colorado on that thing.  I did on my 650 and almost died.  I'd go for a 1200 instead.

What kind of 650 did you ride to Colorado?

muskrat

Yamaha Vstar with Cobra pipes.  had no hearing left and she was wound up the whole way.  those little bikes are bullet proof

Didn't know Vstar came in a 650 sized bike. I bet that puppy was strung out in the higher altitude on those long uphill grinds!

If you're looking at a Sportster, I'd recommend getting the 1200 engine - Nightsters are pretty cool.  You'll want the bigger engine as the 883 is kind of a dog.

Muskrat,

Forgot to add, check out Klockwerks and their windshield for baggers.  They designed it on the Bonneville Salt Flats to flow the air around you better.  I believe they worked with FBI for the world's fastest bagger - 150+ mph.  You'll also want to look into True Track or Sputhe Engineering for their motor mounts as they're supposed to help in eliminating the rear wheel wobble.

Harley forum I'm on = www.HDForums.com  They have individuals sections; Dyna, Touring, V-Rod, etc.

I remember years ago when the 883 Sportsters came out and Harley charged like $3,999 for them. The cool marketing deal was if and when you wanted to trade up to a bigger HD they would give you the full $3,999 purchase price on the 883 trade in!! How f#@king awesome was that??!! Talk about smart marketing! Get you on the most basic HD, ride it for a while, get you hooked and wanting a bigger Harley, then they offer you the full purchase price when you trade the 883 in on a big boy's bike. Genius. Don't know what they did with all those used 883 trade ins. Who cares, the bikes were basically corporate right offs for Harley. There is no telling how much money they made and how many bikes they sold using that trade in program. It got a generation of riders hooked on Harleys.

You may not care for Harley bikes or the HD "culture", etc. but you HAVE to give them credit for what they have done post-AMF. They may be hurting today (who the hell isn't!) but over the last several years they have kicked ass in marketing their bikes and the Harley name and image. They have done wonders managing their share of the market. [thumbsup]

the 09 doesn't need new motor mounts like previous models.  this one is very smooth.  as for the shield, I'll look into it.....clearview shields in CO is the company I used on my old bagger and it was the same.

are we gonna get the pigs on road sometime?

Sounds like a plan.  Just got back from Sturgis and I'm getting some additional work done.  Horrible pop-up gas cap that leaks.  Probably be about 2-3 weeks before I get it back.
