Title: SNL

It's gotten better lately, but did anyone see last nights SNL?

January Jones was HORRIBLE!

Yeah, not too good. There were a couple of moments but... Also the show ended with the blackeyed peas singing, instead of the traditional onstage cast goodbye.

Taylor Swift did a great job last week.

J Jones was really bad.  I hate to admit it, but I am ready for another with Justin Timberlake.  Dwayne Johnson too!

What's up with Seth Meyers doing the Update by himself?  I figured they would have added someone by now?

I mostly only watch for the "Digital Shorts" now. The rest of the show has been pretty blah.

I like the music videos they make

Like a Boss

Jizz in my Pants

I still watch SNL regularly.  Yes, some of the older stuff was funnier, but there are still some good things about the show.

Would I like to see someone else do Weekend Update with Seth?  Yes, but there is always a bunch of 'guests', and Poehler made an appearance about 2 weeks ago.

The musical guests are generally good.  Taylor Swift was a pleasant surprise (and a decent, host, too), and IMO the Peas were good this week.  Plus the show continues to bring in big headliners like U2.

My strategy is to DVR the show, then scan through to the stuff I like to watch, especially the musical guests + Weekend Update.  Sometimes I watch the whole show, sometimes not. <shrug>

I have been watching it since it first came on TV. If you go back and watch some of the old shows,
you will find bits that sucked just like the new shows. There are plenty of funny skits these days
as well. You have to watch it though, you can't be baby sitting on the dmf at the same time.  :D

I agree.  The SNL bits are hit-and-miss throughout the show's history.  Even in the fondly-regarded era of Belushi/Aykroyd/Chase/Curtin/Morris/Radner/Murray/Newman there were some unfunny shows.

Some of the recent bits have been outstanding - "Jizz in my pants" and "Dick in a Box" are destined for the SNL hall of fame.

SNL's musical guests may not be to your taste these days, especially now that Rick Astley's career is over. ;)  Still, there are memorable musical performances that are worth watching on SNL.  Hell, I'm not a fan of Ashlee Simpson, but I remember watching her lip-sync debacle in '04 and her successful return visit the following season.

i had a better link for this earlier, but:

http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2009/11/16/sarah-palin-on-oprah-winfrey-show-five-best-outtakes/ (http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2009/11/16/sarah-palin-on-oprah-winfrey-show-five-best-outtakes/)

Palin told Oprah that at first she was only dimly aware of the popularity of Ms. Fey’s impersonations of her on “Saturday Night Live” (SNL). At one point, she saw a clip of the show, with the volume down.

“I thought it was me,” said Palin.

I have long since given up on the show...

the humor (if you can call it that) falls far short of even marginally funny and nests securely in the center of puerile stupidity and failed poorly-timed shtick

I don't know if they have strangled themselves with a Politically Correct fear of offending someone or group

or if they are paying the writers next to nothing and attracting nothing-level no-talents

Just one more product in America that fails to live up to the heritage of quality that used to be associated with its brand name..

If you have "long since given up on the show" Then you wouldn't know if they have been funny or not!! It may
not be what it once was, or has been in the past, but it has it's moment's. What was once, or is funny changes
through the times. I always watch, and enjoy some, not all of the new stuff. It is very difficult to keep up with
the past greats on the show, but it still runs live every saturday night.  ;)

I'll be more accurate and rephrase since my text is being parsed

I have long since given up harboring any high expectations for the show

I still record it but most often delete it without watching...every once in a rare while I will pop an episode open for 5 minutes, regret it and then delete

as for humor changing...it sure has on SNL....

so should we shorten the yardstick to 30 inches because something fails to measure up to the old 36 inch size?

I haven't watched since the old school (not the real old school some of you remember), but old school for me with Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, David Spade, Kevin Neilin, etc etc.

It was funny with Jimmy Fallon, but once he left, I really stopped.

I wonder if the writer's changed or just the quality of actors changed.......?

or, just an era of comedy changed.

  Kevin Nealon

  Dennis Miller

Each had a great style and always made me laugh.

damn, I forgot about Dennis Miller!

His career slightly changed from comedian to political radio talk show host, however, he still throws some comedy in.

Justin Timberlake show was the exception to the past few years of suckiness.

That is what I keep hearing.

Everyone says JT was pretty funny

(odd note: It is rumored that he will be in Lone Survivor: The Marcus Luttrel Navy Seal movie. I just hope they don't make the beast with two backs up the movie, but Pete Burg is writing and directing, so it should be a good account)

Quote from: cyrus buelton on May 10, 2010, 06:01:39 AMnobody will ever beat Kevin Nielen in that department.

Really?

Chevy Chase invented Weekend Update! In the days when he used to say "Good evening. I'm Chevy Chase, and you're not," the President of the United States once came on and said "Good evening. I'm Gerald Ford, and you're not." Gilda Radner as Emily Littela was a regular correspondent as was Don Novello as Father Guido Sarducci.

I do like Kevin Nealon, but I think he's better in Weeds than he was on Weekend Update.

True, JT has been great but Alec is really good too.

I say the best episode in 5-7 years was when Peyton Manning was on.  He was freaking hilarious.  The United Way sketch is still the funniest sketch I've seen in a really long time.

I liked the news when Akroyd and Curtain did their point/counterpoint bit.

I disagree and my comment wasn't about her live performance, but her performing in general.  ;)

I see. Yeah she's no super star.

I should amend my last comment. It's not that nobody does well live its that they never sound the same as the album.

Disagree again and I can go on and on with live performances.  ;)
