Hey all just to let you know that the next DMF ride day is on Saturday 2nd August so lock it in and start building up the brownie points with the other half....... [moto]
Also need somebody to plan and lead the ride. Would do it myself but sadly I'll be away climbing mountains.
Ok count me in hope to have a better sound setup for this one [thumbsup]

Have a long and on going job starting June 14th.
yes it goes through July and into August, actually 23rd.
Will update closer to the day.
I am in. Where to?
Ummm, what else am I going to say. ???
lets head north? any ideas?
Putty!
It's just a matter of if you start at Windsor and do Putty first and finish with Old Pac Hwy, or do Old Pacific first and finish with Putty. There is fuel at the Halfway House on Putty Rd again now, so there shouldn't be any dramas there. (I haven't included proper stops on that map, it's more just to provide a rough idea.)
* BTW Anyone know how to make a word contain an embedded hyperlink? [edit] Awesome, thanks GoldFish.
Or we could try Lithgow via Bells Line (http://tinyurl.com/5jdjln) (might be a little cold for this run in August) Trying to avoid most of the Great Western Hwy as it's full of speed cameras and traffic. I'd rather go up Bells, and then back down again anyway. :)

Good idea and yes I will be able to join you guys - Yeah!
Sorry going to miss this one :'( ...... Will be high up in them there mountains on the 5th................ [roll]
Most likely will miss it also, work....
Who can show some leadership and get a properr ride map and stops arranged. I don't really know the ride well enough to confidently give instructions. ???
If someone tells me which way to go, I can map it. Making maps in googlemaps is easy enough 8) but when it comes to even thinking about keeping up with some of you guys, I am much happier near the back of the pack. I still think Putty is good. Or maybe Lithgow via Bells Line (the mountains get a bit cold in winter for my liking though).
I reckon that putty and old rd would be a tops ride. Any other ideas anyone?
Putty sounds good, the boys went west via Bells and then south on the second to last big run.
C'mon Craig you can pull it together, all you need to do is point them in the right direction and catch them up at the next turn-off.
I am a ??? at this point - working on the brownie points though [thumbsup]

How about this?
Start at servo - cnr Windsor Road and Pitt Town Road.
Up the putty, and across to Wollombi for lunch
Down through central mangrove to the old road
back to Berowra.
The map may not be entirely accurate - can't remember where the old road is closed off, but you'll get the picture.
About 300kms and a 5-6 hour ride - twisties, a little dirt, fast straights - watch our for the popo [leo]
Looks like you have included a trip up the closed section.
thought so.....
in any case, that works as well.. [evil]

Oh My God!
A Baby shower.....run to the hills!
great idea, I'd suggest going home after the ride, doing some tinkering on the bike, then polish some furniture and then sit down with a bourbon with ice - all will be required to remove any residual estrogen, prolactin and progesterone that will be in the air of your home after the women have gone.
Don't eat soy or licorice that day - your testosterone and DHEA will be under enough attack!
good luck!
I'm in for a 12 July test ride for sure.

Wanting to link up at Wollombi on the 2nd (I'm in Newcsatle, headed for Sydney). Can someone call me 0404 002 427. Kind regards, Aunty Mal [clap]
Time to get serious about plans for this one.
I believe that the consensus is up putty to wollembi for lunch then back via old rd and last stop at road warriors or the pie shop. I think Craigo's map is good, the same ride a few did a couple of weeks ago. Everyone agree? I think a short detour via closed section is the way to go.
Very fast roads, can get into trouble [leo] if not careful but prime riding [moto]
Who is coming.......?
I'll be at Wollombi around lunchtime, ie, 12.30pm. If there is a change please advise. Also be aware the Putty, Old Road and the closed section are ALL the focus of INTENSE police scrutiny. Ride safe. Aunty Mal [bang]

Hi,
We were thinking putty then old rd. Same as the ride on the 12th ??? Dont really care but by all accounts the ride that day was a big [thumbsup]. Craigo posted a route in the other thread, maybe he or someone could repeat it. Fuel stops were well placed etc.
P.S I will be there.
I'd be happy to do a repeat of the last ride , it was a ripper. Not to mention MEATTTTTT for lunch at the Wollemi pub
Andy.
[bang] Respectful submission, not compulsory! ...er...fellow riders...one might consider (with affection and respect)...that if you're gunna ride the Putty, perhaps meeting at the start of the Putty at the SERVO at Wilberforce, might be a practical option? ....sort of has the effect of bringing riders, North, East, and South, to a westish fueling point at the actual beging of the Putty road itself. Now then, you all understand "eyez ony tyin't'hep!!", just an idea, ya know? Kind regards, Aunty mal [clap]
When we did the test run for this last month, we didn't need to stop for gas quite as much (ie didn't stop at Wilberforce or Kulurnu). But we didn't have any testastretta with us past Halfway. I guess we'll just to have suck it and see on the day.
Directions from last time are here:
\snip
It is pretty much a series of right hand turns or slight veers offs. When you get the the end of any given road, chances are if you turn right you'll be good Smiley
For the directional challenged or paranoid (like me):
Initial Meeting point: Rouse Hill Caltex (http://tinyurl.com/58etyp)
It's about 15-20 minutes from there to the Wilberforce Caltex (last gas before halfway).
Putty Loop (http://tinyurl.com/6ehdr5)
START (Gas stop)
1. Wilberforce Caltex
(Travel 98km) PUTTY ROAD -> HALFWAY (Gas Stop)
2. Head northwest on Singleton/Putty Rd
(Travel 85km) HALFWAY -> BROKE (Gas Stop)
3. Continue along Putty Road
4. Right at Milbrodale Rd
5. Turn right at Mt Thorley Rd (Broke). Pull over for fuel in gas station on the left.
(Travel 43km) BROKE -> WOLLOMBI (Lunch Stop)
6. Continue along Mt Thorley Rd (Becomes Paynes Crossing Road)
Warning: This road eventually becomes dirt for around 600m. Don't Panic. After this stretch of dirt you come across Wollombi.
(Travel 68 km) WOLLOMBI -> KULURNU (Gas Stop)
7. From Wollombi, head down Great North Rd
8. Veer left to stay on Great North Rd (ie dont turn right to go to Wisemans Ferry)
9. Stop at Kulnura for Fuel (damn testastrettas!)
(Travel 21km) KULURNU -> ROAD WARRIORS (Coffee Stop)
10. Right at Peats Ridge Rd
11. Right at Old Pacific Hwy (near closed section)
12. Follow Old Pacific Hwy to Road Warriors.
(travel 24km) ROADWARRIORS -> Berowra Caltex
13. Follow Old Pacific Hwy to Berowra.
\snip
It took us about 2 hours to get from Wilberforce to Halfway, then about an hour to Wollombi, then about another hour and a half to Road Warriors (inc closed section loop). Should be an awesome day!
Excellent,
That looks the goods to me.
What time are we all meeting up at the Caltex?
Is that where the Maccas is in the same complex.
Jukie/Betty where will you drop in on us then, I guess the same place you did last time round.
Cheers
Matty....
[bacon]
Yep Matty, it's the combo Maccas/Caltex. (http://tinyurl.com/58etyp)
I'm pretty open with times, but I reckon we aim to depart from the Rouse Hill at about 9:30. That puts us at Halfway by about 11:15, were we fuel up, take a break and drink coffee* for 15 mins. From there to Wollombi should take us about an hour, putting us in for lunch at the pub at around 12:30. Not sure how long lunch will take, it's dependant on how well done Andy gets his steak. ;)
* Note: The term "Coffee" is used fairly loosely and may not will not meet Goldfish standard. :)

Given there looks to be a rather large group attanding I think the ride will take longer this time round, I suggest plan for 9.00 at Rouse hill maccas/caltex. This will allow time for the catch up with everyone and the straglers. Will be a big day!
Yeah I think an earlier start would be better.
A 9am departure is good, so I think we aim for an 8:30 arrival at the Caltex Servo.
So that would mean around 7am or so at Varby's in the South.
Sorry Goldfish I'm not for coming into Mecca before, coffee (which I don't drink) just can't lure me in there.
8:30 arrival 9:00 departure sounds good to me! That should put us in Wollombi at around 12:00-12:30 for AuntyMal (and anyone else that is meeting us up there).

+1. Large groups = long stops. Not to mention that there is typically a large range of riders skills / speeds if you're at the faster end of things, you'll be typically waiting around a bit...

No worries Matty, I'll simply lure the other southerners (Super, Andy, Dock?) to my house (or mecca) prior to departure - from there peer group pressure will take over, and you'll be forced to hang with the espresso ;D

In other words with me planning to meet at the start line (instead of cutting in towards the end) you will be waiting for me. Perhaps we meet at the designated spots only (start, fuel stops, lunch, warriors) - in other words the Putty is a long road, you could be waiting at Milbrodale a while for me, if you plan on stopping at turn-offs, etc.
We will all find our own pace, perhaps with a few smaller groups and I think there is enough people that know the route to prevent anybody getting too lost.

Delays could be a good thing, will give Goldie & Big (I know you're out there), the chance to pull up & brew their own. Our staggered arrival will also speed up the re-fuelling process.
I should be in on this to come meet you all.

I've even heard that some ducati riders even have the odd beer.
Will be great to have another along for the ride.

Anyone coming from the city? [moto]
I'll be heading to the meetup from Newtown via Mecca...
big (perpetuating the Latte-Drinking-Ducati-Rider stereotype...)
newtowns real close to me, I'm just in pyrmont. Whats this mecca thing and where is it? Its about coffee right? dammit.
Which way are you heading? I was thinking of just booning it to the M2 then meeting up with yall at the maccas / servo place at 9.
Well I have finally managed to organise my Saturday so I can make one of these DMF rides I hear so much about. I am in Erskineville so can meet somewhere in Newtown, otherwise can meet at Rouse Hill.
Righto Goldfish, I'll cave let's start the Southern-ers from your joint.
Can you make me a cup-a-tea? [cheeky]
Giannig, you are close to Goldfish so let's make a roll call for the Southern meet.
Andy
Dock 50/50 at this point in time.
MattyVas
Super (where are you)
Kursed (maybe a Mecca fly by) and p.s. it's on King Street City on the outside of the Grace Hotel.
Bigiain (Goldfish coffee or Mecca)
Ducmonrob ?
Mmick ?
I'm guessing about 7am or so?

Matty, my machine's not gonna keep up with that crowd.
And no I cannot make tea, but I have the tools and ingredients for you to make it. To be honest, I don't like the stuff, therefore I never get it right...
Seriously, I think it best with a larger crowd and it being early (remember I have a 10 month old!) to meet at Mecca. Those boys can also make a good cuppa tea too (I hear).
Mecca Espresso (http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=-33.868402,151.205413&spn=0.003733,0.009398&z=17)
Cnr King and York St, Sydney (in the bottom of the grace hotel - park on the street outside - on the king street part of the corner)
Arrive when you want, but me thinks we need to be leaving Mecca around 8am-ish, perhaps a little earlier in order to be at Rouse Hill filled up ready to roll by 9am.
I'd guess that if you're not there by around 7.15am, your not gonna have time to sit and enjoy a morning beverage (or three!)..
No problem,
We'll see in the next day or 3 who's doing what.
Sure you can make a tea!
1. boil water
2. fill cup/mug with choice of tea bag
3. sweeten to your liking
4. add milk if required
5. serve to be drunk at appropriate temperature.
Less to screw up than making coffee.
Catch you Saturday
Matty I was going to say similar things about catering for the masses with coffee - boil the jug, chuck a heap of nescafe in in mug, pour in hot water .... 8 coffees in no time. But I was giving him the benefit of the doubt with the Nemo defence.
Looks like I'd better keep my helmet on on Saturday [cheeky]

Sorry have I assumed control of something that I shouldn't have :-[
There was just so much chatter going on with "who's on first" and "what's on second"
I have a fair number of people's mobile's.
Let's say at this point this is how it looks.
Mecca = Bigiain, Goldfish, Kursed, Giannig
Vaby's = Matty, Andy, Vince, Adam
Liverpool = 900CC (Con), The Don?
Rouse Hill = Tricolore, Craigo, Betty, Jukie, R_usty, Six95
Well done Matty I sure as shite are not as organised as you for this kinda stuff. I spend all day every day organising people so after hours I switch off ;D
ok i'll come meet you guys at mecca, its about a stones throw from my place so that works. Sounds like the plan is to leave there by 8 so I will aim to get there by about 7.45.
My number is 0413521692 (luke).
If i am not there by 8 don't wait for me, it means I'll be going to the rouse hill meetup for 9 (unlikely though, I am never late).
Matty you have done exactly what I was going to ask somebody else to do ;D
Well done [thumbsup]
No problem all,
Happy to do so, Kursed I'd be aiming for a little earlier than that at Mecca.
As we want to be moving from Rouse Hill at 9am so it's an 8:30am arrive.

cheers

And may I say that if the sky looks like this tomorrow and there is precipitation on the visor I will be home and warm.
Ain't no fun riding in the rain, I don't don't get paid by Ducati Moto GP so home I will be as I think most of us will as well.
So let's hope the clouds pass and we can ride the Putty.
+1 Though I may be weilding a spanner and "trying" to keep warm in my dungeon... I mean garage.
b.o.m. still says decent weather tomorrow, cold but no rain. Check it early tomorrow or late tonight for a final decider.
I'll ride if its anything other than rain / hail :)
If the weather is shitty I think I'll be trying to org a zorst install with one of you guys :)
It was raining earlier (3:45pm), but it's currently stopped at Castle Hill and it looks to be clearing. BOM says Good Things (http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN10064.shtml). I'll post again later tonight and let you know how it looks, but I think we should be good. :)

Sorry Matty. :-[
I got your call after getting off the bike when I got home....just thought you could look on here before me ringing you back.
Hope the weather works out for everyone, it was cold, wet and blowy on the ride home from work, not good when you have a shagged front tyre like I've got. :-\
I'm thinking if the weather is still questionable later tonight, at (errghh) 6:45am tomorrow morning or something I can ring Matty with a North West Sydney weather conditions report and maybe Betty/Jukie can ring him with a North Coast weather update. If there is still any doubt, we can make a call from there.. That way we can post the result here and call it round if it looks like we have to cancel.
Riding in the rain is a chore that I'd rather avoid [roll]
Excellent idea Craig,
I think from the forecast on t.v. we should be ok, but do still ring/txt so it can be for sure.
That is unless the sky is blue and we are being shined on by a great yellow ball up above.
txt in the morning, now go get your beauty rest all....
Matty,
I will actually meet you guys at Rouse Hill not Mecca.
Cheers
Yep I read that sorry I didn't reflect it in the post but in my mind you are there first.
You have my number if anything changes or you need to call for any reason.
North coast .... bloody hell, where were we going again?
Just got home .... road is almost completely dry, stars are shining brightly and the wind has died down.
Will try and report in in the morning, but the sun may not be up by the time we have to leave.
geez whats with you lot ???
as chopper says you need to harden the f@$k up ;D
what's with a little water? Bring some wets in a backpack and good to go if it worries you that much (I am usually one to be prepared as I am not a fan of spending the day with a cold wet crotch), but the BOM looks pretty good.
Yeah, I'll be at Mecca around 7.20 for a 7.40ish leave for Rouse Hill [thumbsup]
Sorry all i'm out for tomorrow, too many things to do with the kids/ family. Next time round.
Hope this wind goes away for you all! :o It was blowing me around on the bike today, imagine having a full fared bike?
Enjoy

No rain for hours. Roads look pretty much sweet! Matty I'll ping you early if the situation changes, otherwise I'm looking forward to seeing you folks at Rouse Hill tomorrow morning!
Morning peoples,
Clear skies up here on the coast and hardly a breath of wind at the moment. Has been blowing like a bastard thoughout the night though, so be weary of any debris on the roads. Still a bit dark outside but is looking good.
Seeyas soon-ish.

Good to meet a few guys for the first time: Luke, Con & Gianni.
Hope you all arrived home safely, sorry to have missed a few of you guys at Road Warriors but we assumed you gone up the closed section, so were a bit late getting there.
Special thanks to the guy in the 4WD.
Yeah, awesome day. Good to get the S2R out and stretch it's legs. Shame about the wait for food a Wollombi.

As you will discover, if you want to at least try to stay with big and zee, you better be ready to leave when they do. ;D
We needed to bugger off in a hurry, as mecca was about to close. In the end, no espresso anyways (but instead spent some time with the lads cupping their latest roasting efforts)
Good day people, good to see everyone safe and home!
i turned onto the freeway, then after a few minutes realised there was no way in hell you guys where on the freeway and that I had gone the boring way home. hahaha so no probs - great ride!!!
looking forward to the next one! [moto]
Hi Everyone,
What a great day - bit cold to start with but then it just got better. Thanks for the cool photos Matty - excellent!
Just as an aside - I left my back protector at the Wollombi pub so I had to go back and get it this morning - What a great day and the ride from Peats Ridge to Wollombi and back was excellent - It was a bit warmer today and I knew where the dirt bits and potholes were so went harder - Then back to Syd via the Old Rd and it was a blast.
Thanks again for organising it and I look forward to the next ride! [thumbsup] [moto]

I enjoyed the day, it was fun, and I told Goldie I was going to hang back, 'cos I know mi bikes needs a bit 'o' work, fun though wannit?
By the time I did get home (18:00) I realised I have a bit of maintenance to do, starting at the front of the bike and working backwards;
* left fork seal blown
* throttle sticking (like cruise control)
* left front indicator out
* side stand lost its base
* chain U/S
* cush drives ditto
* replace rear wheel bearings while the wheel is out
* ditto for sprockets
So a little work to do eh?

Re the hanging at the back of the pack, I knew that was horse shit the moment it came out of your mouth!
Not that I'm any expert in dry clutches (or wet ones either for that matter) but there was a little chat on Sat about your noisy clutch and a suggestion from someone that it may be the original plates and basket..
Did I just make your list longer?
And yeah, was a fun day!
Thanks All,

The Cush Drives are easy - you just need to have a large allan key - In my case a 12mm - not sure with yours but not hard to change out.

And yes - Mmick your clutch is a bit on the noisy side - but these things seem to last much longer than you expect......be careful though as we will hear your clutch before your bike soon [cheeky]
