It's good to see Hayden up there in the mix this year...3rd race in a row! [thumbsup]
I think whoever gets in front of Dani(after his lightning start) and uses him as a blocker will have a real advantage if he can hold up some of the front runners for a few laps... although this is a common tactic. :P Should be a heck of a race up front.

most important is that he's being consistently real good, podium is nice but regularly just being a hair away can keep you in the hunt too.
not the best race, but way to go nicky! I cant believe how fast lorenzo gapped rossi...too bad mugello is gonna be a rossi master class. The looks on the faces in the ducatis' garage after casey crashed were..interesting to say the least

I agree. Look at Stoner's season in comparison. Consistant, yes. But in a bad way. When the bike is decent Nicky is usually consistant and if he's not he takes the blame. Unlike some other riders. [roll] Nicky is a hard worker. Not an alien, just 9 to 5 hard work. [thumbsup]

Interesting how Stoner lost the back end like that. He's gonna have a hard road ahead of him. I'm really hoping Nicky and teh Ben do well this year.

I don't really think Vale's shoulder had anything to do with the outcome. He said it didn't bother him until late race. Rossi simply didn't have the race pace to be honest. Looking at practice times, Vale never was consistantly fast like Jorge was... Stoner might have given him a run with a better start, but I think it was simply Lorenzo's weekend.

Q You also had a box seat for Casey's crash, unfortunately. What did you see of that?
A I mean, I seen it right ... it was right in front of me. I seen the front - well, yeah, I seen the front go a little, and then I seen his left foot come off. I was right there. I know it always looks like slow motion, but seemed like forever. The front was gone, and he was on his elbow, and he was trying to save it, and I couldn't open the throttle because he was staying on line. And I was thinking, "I'm about to, the guys behind me are about ..." It seemed like a long time. I don't know. But anyway, I was waiting to open the throttle, and he just ... when I passed him, he was still had it on his knee. That was it. I seen him, I'm not sure what. Lost the front.that kind of vague, back-handed 'could be someone else's fault' bullshit is par for the course with stoner. he never outright blames his troubles on others but ALWAYS suggests something like this. my suspension was sabotaged, the tire was bad, rossi braked too hard, i can't race i just need to be out front.. blah blah blah.
and yeah, all those
seens are making my skin crawl.

"But team manager Vittoriano Guareschi felt that Stoner had been pushing hard when he fell, rather than backing off, and pointed out that he had clear track ahead of him." I see this as his manager calling him out.
Also, Stoner had just run a 1:34.5 I believe which was fastest on track at the time. I call BS as him falling due to going slow. He was pushing hard and binned it again. I already did, but I called BS in Qatar also, because he was setting race fastest laps at the time of his fall and he once again blamed "not pushing" and unloading the front. Notice after the race that Rossi commented on the 800's. He said if you don't have the race pace on these bikes and try to push harder, you just crash, so its better to accept points and move on to the next week. I'm not saying Stoner didn't have the pace, but under full fuel load, probably not the bike at the time to pull out the extra 4-5 tenths and dumped it.
I think it's interesting that they made the bike easier to ride by all accounts and Stoner is now having more trouble with it. I don't know, if this form continues I think he might be done. Blaming other people for shit is no way to solve your issues. Maybe Stoner could use some advice from Matt Mladin: it's not the bike, fix yourself.
I didn't see the video myself, but apparently Stoner explained in a post-race interview that Hayden's data wasn't useful because Nicky isn't fast enough [roll].

This is what Stoner had to say about Nicky and using his data:
"Nothing against Nicky, but I’ve been able to run a lot faster lap times and problems normally come when you start pushing a little more. So, when Nicky starts becoming more comfortable with the bike and the lap times start dropping he might start having issues like I am now."

This season he's coming off unlikable even to his fans, that's a big problem. Not to mention that he's back to his original crashtastic form on what at least appears to be the same bike. I'd love to see him race on the screamer to see if it made a difference.

Lorenzo seems to be pretty relaxed, that's got to worry Rossi.
Seems like more people crashing this year, and having problems with front grip.
Rossi's got rear grip problems, but I'm convinced he's tilted his setup to get the front to work, sacrificing the rear.

Ducati will probably work really hard to keep Nicky around. He might not be the fastest guy out there, but he keeps the sponsors happy with all his appearances. He also helps to sell bikes in the US. if they lost him, they would probably go after another American, either Edwards or someone coming up the ranks and put em on Pramac.

Nicky is a hard worker with the right ethic which makes it hard to not want to keep him regardless of his results...but with his results being amazingly better than Casey currently and a completely drastic difference from anyone else who has had the 2nd seat factory ride as of late...it is hard to argue as to why not to keep him...

I'm not saying they won't keep him...I'm saying they'll make a strong play for Rossi. If that doesn't work, they'll throw big dollars at Lorentho. And if that doesn't work, they'll try to sign Smurfey O'Pint-Size. Either way, I doubt Nicky becomes the lead rider at Ducati...as much as I would like that.
he's out-riding pedro so far. and i know they don't want to deal with puig.
if he's consistently doing what he's doing now or better - and if they can't get jorge - there's not much argument against it. the US is ducati's largest market and nicky is very much a team player from the off-track obligations* pov.

i still have this feeling that any offer to valentino would be for a new single bike factory team. but i doubt he's going anywhere.
Watching the race again. Casey had passed Nicky at least a half lap earlier and he was trying to get into position to pass Pedrosa. Exactly who was he trying to blame fot the fall?
Nicky may have home town draw (or is that drawl?) here but not so much elsewhere. I don't think Ducati wants to deal with POOOOOOOOOg any more than any other team but if Stoner really is scratching plastics on behalf of HRC (which I find hard to believe but it's an enjoyable euphemism) then I think Ducati would be right to go after the only remaining alien. Unfortunately I think Nicky will continue to play bridesmaid until the perfect storm happens again, if ever.
Stoner's crash looked to me like he was pushing too hard again. He had passed Hayden, and was trying to catch Rossi & Lorenzo. Unfortunately, he wasn't happy with doing so slowly...he wanted to catch them in a lap or three. Similar to Qatar...looked like he didn't want to slowly build a gap...he wanted to break Rossi right away. Patience.

or, lack of racecraft.
It's hard to argue against Stoner's racecraft. He has always been comfortable passing people, unlike Smurfy.
i don't think that's the case at all.
he can fight back when necessary, true, and he's not pedro in this dept, but his racecraft is lacking in relation to many. he likes to get out front and clear away. more often then not too much scrapping for him means he ends up 3rd or 4th or in the gravel.
Pedrosa racing since he was 6, 3 years 125GP, 2 years in 250GP.
Stoner racing since he was 4 years old, lots of racing, including 4 years in 250GP.
That much riding and racing, and still weak racecraft.

Puig.
I think Stoner lost the front again even though the replay shows the rear going.
It seems that Ducati has made it possible for everyone to not be on the podium.

lost the rear trying to save the front:

Lost the front.

This brings up a good question. Do you call a derby a "derby" or do you refer to it as a "myself"?

But as I said, I was pushing it around all weekend. And then when we're not pushing it, it just decides to go away on me, so it's becoming a little bit frustrating, but I guess I've just got accept responsibility for it, get over it and get ready for next weekend, because I've made things very difficult for myself this year, maybe impossible. So we're just going to take it race by race now, and do what I've come out to do and try and win races.Seems pretty mature for someone accused of being a whiney pregnant dog.
That's what I thought, hence the post. Still, I just wish he'd finish a damn race.

he always stops short of being a whiney pregnant dog, imo. but i do think his first comments/reaction almost always smell like placing blame elsewhere. he's been doing that consistently since 2006.
and he almost always comes back a week later with a statement like the above. he did the exact same thing after laguna '08.
basically, he should keep his mouth shut at first =)
I know someone like that...
it's me

I don't know many people who's mouth doesn't get them in trouble...occasionally;D
Was there an accusatory quote right after the race I missed?
This is the first I've seen.
yeah, he suggested that he lost the front because the riders in front of him were too slow.

From the same article: "But, yes, Jorge's getting more mature, and I'm getting more mature, but crashing more, so maybe I should go back to my immature days...." [laugh]

The truth is Casey has been batshit fast on the Duc...when he's been healthy.
I really think he's baffled.
I'm wrong as often as not. :-\

Was there a direct quote along those lines or was it perhaps his comments from the press conference taken a bit out of context?

This is his quote:
Maybe it's because when I'm behind slower riders in the race I'm not able to put the same pressure on the front.
OK, I thought I saw that.
