Yes, the oil hasn't even had a chance to settle in the crankcase from the last Hill Country run and it's time to plan the next one!
Mark your calendars and start bribbing your boss (S.O.) now! The date for this Hill Country extravaganza is:
Friday OCTOBER 24 - Monday OCTOBER 27
We'll meet at Koyote Ranch Friday afternoon. Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning will be devoted to riding. Leave K.R. Monday afternoon.
ummm...dare i say it.... i hope you had a really late night of drinking, and you weren't getting up at like 3:30am...
that said, i think any of those weekends work for me...the sooner we pick something the sooner i can submit a leave request and make sure i'm good to go.

[laugh] Ummm, yeah... What are the chances? [roll] [laugh]
Maybe I should just keep the key to king cabin 26 instead of dropping it in the mail. [laugh]
I wonder if KR would be ready to handle another LSD odessey to the HC in Oct.
Last time I checked Labor Day is on September 1st?? What's on Oct. 27th besides a Monday?? This too far out for me to commit to but I do want to make a HC ride. [moto]
Let's hope that 337 is in a better state of repair just outside of Leakey. I rode it 4 times. Its not the funnest thing to do on a SBK
I'm scheduled for vacation from 18 Oct until 27 October...
I could maybe fudge a day one way or the other... but it is pretty much set there.
Im all over this like R. Kelly's pee on a 15 yo... ;D
Im down for any of those dates...
Well I'm partial to the 20th as that's my birthday. Seeing how I bought my S2R for my bday last year it would only seem fitting to spend this year with other "HOLIGN"s. ;D
One thing we might want to consider was how clear the roads were on Monday as opposed to the weekend. Why not move things ahead one day by spending Friday in Austin with Koyote Ranch on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, leaving Tuesday?

i definitely benefited from there being basically no traffic on one sharp right-hander in particular :-\ i will have revenge next time around though.
Any weekend but the last weekend (Halloween parities, you know!). Although... how cool would it be to have a Halloween Hill Country Ride with everyone in costume? I think chipo already has his... ;)
I like coming back on Monday (except I now have a mental note to take the next day off from work to rest, unpack, post pics, edit video, etc). This going straight back to work after getting into town after midnight is rough on us old guys.
If memory serves, the weather in October over last couple of years has been cooler in the last 1 or 2 weeks than the first weeks. Not sure about the Hill Country, but trying to avoid the really cold weather might be preferred.
Otherwise, my schedule is free for any of those weekends!
I thought you were coming this way in Oct.
[thumbsup]

SO all over this!! I'm giddy just thinking about it ;D
This weekend was so much fun despite my 1) complete lack of experience and 2) one days notice prior to leaving. I can only imagine the awesomeness that will ensue in October.
I'll have to start the cigar collection early this time to supply Cory--since "it was the burger...." [laugh]
Any weekend except the first is good for me. Looking forward to it. <vroom> [moto] <vroom>

oh you can so count me in on this!! I did the New England Beer Festival annually in college = sooooo fun. ok, i will stop b4 I threadjack completely.
So I have about 4 months to find a trailer of my own to pull.
Cool, cool, cool! Looks like the third weekend in October is gonna be best for more folks (everyone that's posted so far, best I can tell).
I agree with Jim on moving the start day back a day to make it a Friday - Tuesday kinda thing.
Along that line, though, would it make any since at all to really start "late" and have us cruise to Austin on a SATURDAY, then be in the Hill Country Sunday - Tuesday ?
That would be October 25th - 28th...
Third weekend sounds good (so far). I like the Friday - Monday idea, skipping Austin if necessary. Austin on Thursday could be optional?!?
Oh yeah and one more thing; we need four volunteers for the boarding party that will kidnap Swanny... [cheeky]

I'm up for skipping Austin. Too many strange traffic laws in that town. >:(
Yea, I don't mind skipping Austin as well.
Well O.K. then, it's settled - no Austin over-night this time. And I've edited the title to reflect the date [beer]
I like where this is headed... [clap]
O.K., now that we've got the triviality of time sorted out [laugh] let's talk nitty gritty.
What I propose is a chili cook-off Saturday night, October 25th, between our wonderfully twisted friends from the THCM and those of us who, for reasons known only to ourselves, call the D/FW area home.
Now, we all know David (Heiro) rocks when it comes time to cook, but I've got a feeling there's one or two of us D/FW folk who know a thing or two about chili.
Perhaps a healthy l'il competition is in order then? Chili at twenty paces [evil]
And of course no contest is complete without a judge - thus the request for our former Mod from TOB to attend. I'm sure he will be completely unbiased [evil]
Then there's the matter of beer. Honestly, what goes better with a nice Autumn evening than chili and beer? (Yeah, there's that but we're talkin' food here people [cheeky] ). I'm hoping Murduc can attend and will bust out another awesome batch of his finest. Please set up a PayPal account or something similar now so those of us who plan to attend can kick in some cash before you have to go out and buy all the ingredients.
What else am I forgetting... Oh yeah! Dibs on one of the rooms in Cabin 26 [evil]
P.S. Bryant, I'll get together with you at some point and get all the contact/reservation info for Koyote Ranch.
Can someone please copy this thread link and post it over on THCM - I seem to be having some technical difficulties with cut and paste at the moment >:(

Awesome thanks Alan for posting over on THCM.
I'll take our quad-cab Dodge and will also take the trailer. I can get one bike in the bed of the truck, plus two on the trailer so three spots total. Now minus yours and mine, that leaves one spot left ;D

Definitely get 26 again, and if the head-count reaches appropriate levels, start getting the three Kamp Kabin's next to it (25, 24, 34 - in that order). Honestly 21 and 22 weren't that bad (Ronr, svoloch, barnee, chipo, lou, scott2), but closer to the action is always more fun! [drink]

edit: I moved and updated "the list" of folks going on this trip back to the 1st Post.
I think in the HC bylaws, beds cannot be claimed on dibs. They must be claimed on site and first come first serve. Kind of like a land rush, you claim it when you get there!

i'm not picky about what cabin i'm in...hell, as much beer as i drank every night i could have probably passed out on a lounge chair next to the pool; there's something to be said for sleeping under the stars (i forgot how many there were until last weekend). actually i think quite a few people tried that out for a while different nights.
and we might want to pack some cots with us this time around as well.
I'll be trailering again, but probably not 4 bikes, I'd like to have comfortable space for gear IN the truck. Perhaps I should go ahead and get the luggage rack I've been eyeing for the Taco.

That said.
I am just going to throw this out there. Due to finances, come October it could be "bike or beer" for me.
In other words, I am selling my truck. I doubt very seriously the bronco will be running by then. So I can either cage it with beer in the econo box, or ride up.
So, though it is a little far out for me to be sure I can go much less my "arrangements", someone might plan ahead on swinging by the lake house to pick up beer kegs.
For those that don't know, when you turned off 281 onto 46, you were about 8 miles from the lake. Around 10-15 from mi casa.
Haha, Koyote Ranch (Asia specifically) called me just now thanking me for mailing the last key back and to say that they look forward to us coming back again. I told her to watch out for this October. [laugh] [laugh]
Jason, I'm sure people will be willing to make a stop and pick you and delicious beer up [beer]

Lisa, since you're the "Chief Instigator" on this Gonzo HC trip, I'll pass some of the info over to you.
Just give KR a call and tell them that you are organizing a trip down there for us and that we've stayed there before. They should remember us, let them know it's the Ducati Group again and they'll know us.
That should give us a discount on the stay since we've been there before. The big cabins are #20 and #26. I think cabin #26 is better overall, it has better parking (i.e. level and more abundant), it's close to the pool/hot tub area, and the smaller cabins for others in the group.
If we get cabin #26, let them know that we'll probably have other smaller cabins reserved eventually. If they can save the nearby smaller cabins so the group is in the same area that would be great. They should start a file for the group if we get more reservations.
Oh yeah, I'm down for the big cabin [thumbsup]

1) put up fancy little boarding on wrap around porch at new ponderosa
2) ask spouse for time off from new home chores
3) get time off from work
4) get new rubber for the vespa
5) by then will prob need new chain/sprockets as i have 9200 miles on bike now
6) get some leather pants (argh i hate leather pants) but for this i presume a necessity. bohn under armor and some riding jeans

Count Donald in on this one ! Mom's birthday is the Oct. 27th - Mom lives in Austin - I meet or exceed the qualifications ( I'm easy, like bacon, like dogs, like cigars, and regularly consume mass quantities of beer. ) The only thing that would interfere would be the really REALLY big assignment that would pay for motocycling in Spain next year :o !!
If leather pants are required y'all must have some plans I don't need to know about !! [bacon] Please keep that sort of activity out of my senior cabin O.K. ??

chris is a go!!! don't care which cabin!! i was informed there is no way i should need a chain and sprocket at 12000 miles. i just need to get someone who is more knowledgeable than i about 3 weeks b4 to check out my bike chain for any kinda stress signs. currently looking at tires.
"Um, yeah... This is Lisa Boyd with the Ducait Club outta Dallas... We'd like to reserve some cabins, please..."
"Oh yes, Ducatis - LET ME GET YOUR FILE..."
Man, what did y'all do last time?!?
Seriously, the cabins are reserved. Here's the deal:
I've put a deposit down on #26, a "King Cabin." And I've reserved the two cabins next door, closest to the pool - cabins #27 and #28. I've also reserved #29 (which is across the parking lot from #26).
Here's how they break-down:
26 - King Cabin sleeps up to 10 people: 2 bedroom cabins have cable TV, 1 full bath and kitchen supplied with kitchenware. They feature a double bed in each bedroom and two doubles and two twins in the loft, allowing the cabin to sleep up to 10. $265.00/night
27 - Honeymoon Cabin sleeps up to 4 people: Studio/loft style cabins with bath, kitchenette and cable TV as above. These cabins have an enlarged den with futon and feature French doors and large picture windows in the front peak that offer spectacular views of the countryside. Please note that the bed in each of these is located in the loft and is accessed by a short ships ladder. $175.00/night
28 - Camp Cabin sleeps up to 4 people (does not have it's own toilet): With air-conditioning and heating, a double bed and a bunk bed accommodate 4. In addition to a covered porch they each have a picnic area with a spacious table constructed of recycled material. While these units do not have bathrooms they are located in close proximity to one of our air-conditioned and heated shower / restroom facilities. $75.00/night
29 - Honeymoon Cabin (see above)
I've also got an option to rent out #25 (on the "other" side of 26, furthest from the pool) - it is a Get-Away Cabin.
25 - Getaway Cabin sleeps 4 - 6 people: 1 bedroom cabins have cable TV, bath with shower and kitchenette including 2 burner stove, sink, microwave, mini-fridge and supplied with kitchenware. They have a double bed in the bedroom, twin beds in the loft and a futon in the living area. $170.00/night
I'd like to probably drop one of these five cabins - I'm thinking the Camp Cabin with no facilities.
What say you?
P.S. Here's their website: http://www.koyoteranch.com/
We're famous, or infamous... all depends on how you look at it [thumbsup]
Thanks Lisa for getting the cabins squared away
I definitely need to be in the big cabin.
It is dangerous to try to contain Puggle Power.
[bacon]
I really think we need the cabins on either side of 26, just because...
Also, they don't sleep as many as claimed unless you're sleeping 2-up :o

Let me know if you need anything for this Chris. I can help out with ingredients. [thumbsup]

this time, now that I have more than one day's advanced notice, i def plan on bringing ample homemade bbq sauce :o
I might be able to secure a trailer, my bike plus 1.
I'll be able to fit 2 bikes in my truck. Not sure if I'll pull a trailer down, but I can if need be.
I secured a place on Lisa's trailer, but gave that up to trailer with LYD from his house. Well, I now need a spot. Any space left with anyone? [popcorn]
Hopefully, a Ft Worth trailer will be located. I wouldn't mind going out there, but getting back to Dallas on the return trip was brutal. I think I got home around 130 or so and then had to unload. bleh [puke]

HaHaha!.... does four and a half hours
QUALIFY for an "IronButt" award?
If so their standards are low!
Either way: It looks like Myself, Duke, Tommy, Bonnie, an B.B. are now "Rolling" to the hills...
1000 miles in 24 hrs is the minimum qualification for ironbutt status. It would probably be best to do it another time though.

Actually, we're considering taking the R1 also. If any of you have never ridden an in-line 4, you should try it. It is a totally different ride and lots of fun! The R1 isn't a perfect example of how awesome these bikes are but it'll certainly do the job.

Staying away from Austin until probation over
that sounds like a wise idea for those that got into trouble last time. because you know it would be the same cop that got you again.
We have what? 4 weeks left?
Who's bringing what?
i am bringn some water for myself (don't drink alot) and some breakfast chow. told you about the other.
One more to thing remember, we have to check out of KR by noon on Monday. We almost got charged for an additional night this past May. Monday morning ride will have to be short.
Did someone say breakfast?
I got 15 lbs of bacon and probably 5 to 10 lbs of italian sausage patties that would be great on biscuits.
I got probably 10 or so lbs of shrimp for you guys and I will get a case of ribs somehow someway for you guys. Also have some crab meat if you guys want some of that.
Let me know if you want anything else.
Swanny
Any chance of a swanny sighting at this trip?

8) Had a great recon trip to Fredricksburg this weekend. Took 67 to 281 down there and it was really OK and a heck of a lot better than I-35 and the cluster situation with construction all the way to Waco !! Once you get south of Alvarado it moves at a pretty good clip - passing lanes on most hills etc. and a very light LEO presence. [clap]
Saw so many Harleys to/from/& there that it seemed like Milwaukee !! The Ducs are going to make quite show I can tell! Saw a few Beemers & Jap bikes but everyone is walking around with raccoon tans from using only sunglasses as rider protection !! :-\
Got a few photos of Enchanted Rock that y'all will probably never see going twice the speed limit so I thought I would share some of the natural beauty of the area! Forget the trailer !! - I may go early & stay after - there is a ton of stuff to do down there besides ride the twists !! [laugh]

Not sure if this is already in the plans or not ... but the Harvest Classic European and Vintage Motorcycle Rally (http://www.harvestclassic.org/rally/index.html) is the same weekend that we are in HC and is about 48 miles away in Luckenbach. Could make a nice ride destination for Saturday.
I might run up there on my own as ML will be there as a vendor.

I have high hopes and remain optimistic that my breath will indeed be fresh each day. [thumbsup]

I may have a leaking radiator, I'm not sure if I'll be able to ride this weekend. I noticed this last night while putting the bike back in street form.
Well,
I hope all these last minute bike issues clear up for the weekend, just like the weather looks to be doing. :o
If not there is always chase vehicle duty.
A truck with ramps, tools, icechests, camera's etc. The ride won't be as thrilling but the conversations should be "top notch". [cheeky]
Then there is kitchen duty.
That's where we sit around at the pool drinking beer talking about what we aught to cook, while we wait for hiero to get back. [laugh]
Yeah, I won't completely devastated if I can't ride the weeked. I figure I can hug the kegs of beer to console myself
My gas tank leaks, but mostly just when it's leaned over. F-it though, I'm goin'!!
Oh, I'm going... just not sure if I'll have a scoot w/ me or not.
Looks like I'm officially IN. Anyone have room? If not I can get a trailer and provide someone else a ride! [thumbsup]

I could take the bike & you ride with RonR?!?

Tommy, Bonnie... sorry about the ride. I could have taken you guys but the powers that be are just not working in my favor. If its not one thing its another! [bang]

Honestly, Bonnie is getting worse in the rib area, and could probably use the rest. I think this week of being in school all day everyday is not allowing her to heal. As it stands right now, she is cussing while getting dressed. That means it must be worse than I thought because she usually never compains about discomfort. Who knew that you could roll around on the ground at 75 mph and not be able to edo verything you were able to the week before..... That, and the monster still doesn't have a working clutch lever, and I have 0 people to help me load the bikes into the truck. So, I hope everyone has a great weekend. We are truly sorry to miss this. I know Bonnie and I are going to be in shitty moods this weekend because we will be thinking about you all down there having awesome rides and arepas with strawberry pop-tarts...... Life could get a little easier on us.......

We are shooting for an 8am departure time. Don't know if it will really happen. I promise to guard the ribs and beer with my life on the trip down ;D [bacon]
i will b @ jims @ about 8. i believe my directions r correct. 35 south to 290 west to 16 south in fredricksburg go 14 miles past river in kerrville and it's on the right.
Those are good directions to KR alright, just be careful on 16 past kerrville since you have a trailer. The road really tightens up there about 4 miles north of KR, lots of elevation change and whatnot.
sir yes sir [bow_down] i will prob b going slow anyway not wantin to be the dumb arse that passes it.
Nah, you won't pass it. [thumbsup]

It is an honor & a privilege to be part of this crew - thanks y'all ! [clap]
We just got home with everything unloaded and taken care of!
Stopped off at "the offending" mechanic (Metric Cycles) and left the bike. The shop owner seemed pretty upset, vowed to make good on everything and start working on her ASAP. From the way he looked at and spoke to the fellow who admitted to torquing the axle on my bike, I have a feeling someone may be getting just a little fired.
Aaaargh it is not good to be back. [bang] Where is our bonfire? Where is the home brew? Where is the drunken ducatisti laser light show? ???
Needless to say, thanks for an awesome weekend guys. Only hanging out with ya'll and LOTS of Jason-brew can making trailering your bike all the way out to the HC just to be able not to ride actually fun!!
And a special thanks to Rich for letting me ride pregnant dog (I just had to say that cus it rhymed, but really, thanks!)

What an AWESOME weekend ;D
The company, laughs, food, rides, more rides, even more rides: it was all with the best group of folks around, top notch. [thumbsup] I can't wait for the next one. I really didn't want to ride down when I first decided to go, but I do not regret it for one moment...OK, maybe about halfway back I thought I'd never get back home. [laugh] Rich and Jason, I enjoyed the company down (of course Jason and I were merely roadies for the Rock Star Duke Show 8)); it was cool that Billy and Donald joined me and Rich for the ride back up. Man, it was really cold on the way up for the first hour or so, and the ride home was really windy. My entire upper back and neck are burning. I would not travel down and back any other way, though--872 miles this weekend, baby. You heard it here: there was indeed some riding going on.
[beer]
Rich, the ribs were, well, the "freakin' ribs," man...I couldn't get enough.
Jason, the brew was beyond GREAT.
Jesus, awesome arepas and cigars
Zach and Catie, thanks for taking my cooler down and back. I'll have to pick it up and take a ride in the Unimog. ;D
Catie, you are a saint....
...and, of course, thanks to all who led ride groups. I learned a lot from watching all of the folks ride this weekend.
Minor incidents, but clearly, one heck of a time [clap]
Home!
Glad to hear that the last few have made it home!

wait one minute........ from what i understand jason does an excellent job of snoring and george can snore also when he is tired from ridin his bike all day. turkey's no but there was a fawn (in front of will and ron) , suicide squirrel (in front of will and i ) and the bravest f'n cat i have ever seen (in front of jesus, zach and i ). not to mention the fact he was bigger than "duke".
i almost forgot to say thank you to lisa for settn' this up. thank you!!! thanks to all for allowing me to join in the fun. and a big thanks to ron, scott, and will for lettn me slow down their high speed adventures today. however i must say the loop is a definite must everytime i go from now on and i am so glad i stayed back to ride it w/ you guys. next year we know that 337 should be all the way complete. sry will but they put the tire size on my reciept for my rear tire. the 695 will be headed to ams-a next sat for a small leak. smells like fuel but i will know more later in the week.
What an awesome weekend. (just kidding Svoloch, it sucked!!) Other than a completely shredded tire (who knew 167hp could do that to a tire), my inaugural ride on the new scooter is complete and without incident. Thanks to everyone this weekend for your help. This kind of thing can't be done with anything less than everyone's input. Not one slacker in the bunch! [thumbsup]
No major incidents, no speeding tickets (at least on the bikes) = trouble-free good times.
Awesome weekend. Andy and Amy came by and picked up their 696 so he can ride to work in the cold tomorrow. Had a blast chasing Will around all weekend on the Blue Flamer.
Chris, that sux about getting the ticket. We almost made it home with no trouble. I saw his lights come on and was hoping it wasn't for you.
I'd type more but I'm using the phone and am laying in bed about to pass out after unpacking and repacking. Looking forward to the post trip party. I have many Miller Brewery products that ended up in my truck.

Will for leading the group around and letting Scott take a break from his usual duty this trip [thumbsup]

Scott, your camera work on the PS1000 was great!
So here's to the next THC trip [thumbsup]
It has taken a few days but I've finallly made it through all the Hill Country posts-n-pics and, needless to say, I'm bummed to have missed this one. But I know there will be more so in the meantime, I'm really happy to see this latest trip was such a success.
Y'all rock [clap]

Most of the scratches where just in the clear and base coats. I started sanding and repairing the side panel last night. RichD stopped by AMS to order a turn signal lens. Should be ready to repaint late this weekend or early next week. I will be working 12 hour shifts this weekend, so I'm not sure how much I will get accomplished over the weekend.
