like last year everyone gets assigned a meal. lunches you pay for yourself but dinners and breakfast we do as a grop unless you just don't like what is made. there are 6 meals fri, sat, sun dinner that will have three people assigned to each. sat, sun, mon breakfast will get two assigned to each since they are cheaper to make. for example last year dan and i had fri dinner and we made fajitas, richd and jason had sat dinner and they made those AWFUL ribs rich makes [evil] , cj had sat breakfast and he made scrabbled eggs with pieces of ham in it. whoever your meal buddies are you get with them and decide what to make. you don't necessarily have to cook it yourself but you have to buy the ingredients for it. some like tom and dax last year had theirs premade and all they had to do was heat it up. if everyone is mature enough to do that it works great like last year. if a few people screw around and don't do their part then they can go eat a hamburger at the cafe with the harley boys while the rest of have ribs or something really good! if you have food allergies let us know!!!!!!!!

Have fun for me, I will be there in spirit.

...or so.

Yeah, I broke down and bought a 2004 Nicky Hayden Edition Honda RC51 to fill the gap.

If my Ducati is down, I might as well ride the bike that spanked the Ducatis in WSB.

:P

Hiero, been too long, we'll ride together some day.  Maybe the Harvest Classic.

Cheers.

For those of you trailering on Friday a.m. - what time are you heading out?  Scott had mentioned some insanely awful time like 5:30 which, I am assuming, was a joke.

Right?   ;D

I was gonna leave my house between 7 and 8! I go a different route down there. I take 220 south to 281 south to 290 west to 16 south. If somebody picks a place and time we can caravan down. Last year we met at loves in midlothian at 730

we're not trailering, but i think we're going to shoot for 6am departure.  what route is anyone taking/recommending?  punching it up on google maps says i should take 67 to 281 to 84 to 16.  is anyone thinking that's better than just the boring route straight down 35?

also, be sure you pack rain gear.  looking like chances of some showers this weekend down that way.

:P I can't go but, the 281 route is definitely WAY better if for no other reason than you can stop at Storm's for an awesome burger.  They have a dog friendly outdoor patio too.  Duke caused quite a commotion there.  Y'all have fun and ride safe!  [beer]

edit: The one with the cool outdoor waterfall patio is in Lampasas ( there is another in Hamilton - not as cool ).  You order at the outdoor speaker under the patio cover.

on your way in you could hit up a few good beer spots:

wimberley brewing co - wimberley
real ale brewery - blanco
dodging duck brewhaus - boerne (we all know this one!)
and of course fredericksburg brewing co, fredericksburg

I'm sure there's more too, but that's what I know at the moment  [drink]

Here's an excerpt from an article a magazine writer did from my Arkansas car trip the week before the HC trip.  Must have been the same group of riders roaming the nation's best roads!  ;D

The first route on this day's rally was the "Pig Trail."  There were, unfortunately, not many opportunities to stretch our car's legs on this run. Between groups of Harley-Davidsons and logging trucks that cannot seem to negotiate any of these windy roads at more than 5 miles an hour, one could pull their hair out in frustration. The logging trucks seemed courteous enough to pull over and let the string of high-performance cars go. The bikers are a different story all together.

You'd think a line of red and yellow Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Corvettes cattle jammed behind a group of "we own the road" motorcycles would be a big enough clue to pull over and let the train of horsepower go by. Well, not so much, and my respect for those two-wheeled guys has taken a huge hit.

You must be a proud Honors graduate of the Harly Rolling Obstruction Driving Academy, but unfortunately failed high school physics.  If a few Ducatis have a hard time getting around a long line of Harly drivers in very twisty double yellow lined hills (SAFELY), you think a bunch of cars are going to do any better?  [roll]  Those Harly guys are a crafty group, and leave no space in between each other for a car, no matter the marque.
Title: Re: Annual Pilgrammage
Post by: muskrat on September 22, 2010, 08:09:25 AM
I'm a graduate of formation/staggered riding and respecting your lane.  I have NEVER agreed with splitting groups especially with large numbers....disaster comes fast and anyone who does that should consider the fact that some in the group you are splitting have little if no experience.  And in case anyone is wondering I ride with 4 to 6 tops and we always let the cannonball runners by and risk their own lives, not that of those they are trying to split.

FYI.....It's not only Harley riders who hold up traffic and can't negotiate tight turns.  Yes it pisses me off because ALL bikers do the same shit regardless of brand.  If you reverse brands I'd be saying the exact same thing so I'm not taking it out on the brand but rather the riders who are at fault.  I'll bet 90% of so-called riders can't distinguish the difference in more than 70% of bikes in the cruiser market and surely it's close to that number on crotch-rockets.

Title: Re: Annual Pilgrammage
Post by: Cher on September 22, 2010, 01:04:29 PM

I wonder if traffic would be any better if we were to schedule a HC trip during the week?  Timing seems to be everything and unfortunately, there are long sections of delectable twisties that are usually forfeited to slow cars/trucks/motos, etc.  I say live and live but minimizing potential traffic aggravation could be accomplished with off beat timing.  A Tuesday through Friday gig would do the trick I bet and, with enough warning, scheduling time off from work could also be do-able.

Also, I think it would be cool on one of these trips to run the Three Sisters route, then turn right around after lunch and run it in the opposite direction  [evil]

It was still a cool vacation; relaxing with friends at the end of the day was the best.  Thanks to everyone who worked this one out.

haven't even touched my bike yet. will what do you charge for a little bike?  ;D been mowing and had to run up to work to halt a potential massive problem.
regarding the group of harleys that wouldn't pull over. i have no problem with them riding their own pace. my problem is that if you have someone come flying up on your ass then maybe you can pull to the right side of your lane and allow them room to pass. if you are on the freeway and a car comes up from behind in a hurry and your putting along then you usually move over and allow them to go by, do you not?
lisa i think that is an excellent idea. not sure how many would be able to go during the week. i am pretty sure it would cut out either rich or jason. don't think ron,cj or i would have an issue. if anyone might be interested we could try it next year. start a poll and see what happens. also i like the idea of riding all three and then flipping and riding them a different direction in the afternoon. my only fear about that is that usually after going one way and then eating people tend to get tired. think of it like a track day. morning sessions.......good!! afternoon sessions......tired, cranky prob not as sharp!

The Sunday Two-Wheeled Crew in San Marcos.  Nice little road trip.  We were still fairly dry at this point.  Not so much later....

haven't even touched my bike yet. will what do you charge for a little bike?  ;D

Dude.... monsters are a pregnant dog to clean. Your bike may be small, but it has a zillion more crevices to contend with than the bimmer.

How's the phone? Did you get it all dried out yet?

They are both still soaking in uncooked rice (poor man's dessicant) inside a sealed freezer bag that sits in my hot truck during the day to bake out the moisture.  Haven't tried turning them on yet.  :P

The internet sez put it in rice for two days, which I did.  So I just turned it on, and it seems okay now.  [thumbsup]  Hope it stays that way.  Great suggestion to put it in the rice, it was not happy on Sunday.

sweet!   [thumbsup]  of course, it's also a good idea to always have a few ziplocks in a jacket pocket for just such occasions...

I'm going to plan a DFWM trip to Mount Magazine in Arkansas prolly Spring next year.  It will be a three or four day extravaganza.

Over the last couple of years, our family has stayed at Mt. Magazine three or four times; always a winner with stunning scenery and incredible Arkansas mountain roads right at your doorstep...Here's their website:

http://www.mountmagazinestatepark.com/lodge-cabin-rest/lodge/ (http://www.mountmagazinestatepark.com/lodge-cabin-rest/lodge/)

And a map:
http://www.mountmagazinestatepark.com/maps-directions-weather/map.asp (http://www.mountmagazinestatepark.com/maps-directions-weather/map.asp)

They have a very nice lodge facility with traditional hotel rooms and a beautiful resturant within the lodge facility.  There are also 8 or 9 fully furnished cabins with kitchens, fireplaces and covered decks with a hot tub that overlook a spectacular river valley.  There's an excellent winery and German resturant (Weidekers) in Clarksville that is 30 minutes away... What could be better?  [evil]

Of course now all I have to do is completely dismantle my bike and clean it  [bang] [laugh]  Haven't even unpacked some of my Hill Country stuff yet.  Geez, what a slacker.

Thx for the tip, I'm sure it saved my phone.  I am now a believer in the ziplocks, and a non-believer in the weather.com.
