A few have spoken about it, some have said they can/will go along.
I am planning a little road trip, Bells Line, Rylestone, Bylong Valley Way, Denman, Singleton, Gloucester, Walcha, Mt Seaview (Oxley Hwy) through to Port Macquarie, then back again.
Dates 20th, 21st, 22nd. You'll be covering about 700 odd klms a day.
I'll map it shortly so you can see the route.
So if you wanna come along, pipe up so accommodation can be arranged.
Cheers
Matty...
I'm not familiar with any of those roads, so I'm out (very far out).
Are you serious about covering 700 km a day? They would have to be very high speed roads [moto]
BTW isn't your whole continent sinking or something ???
Come on where's your spirit you can make it!
Some are sinking and some are having 40C days!
700 a day is not all that much, id say it would be average, it could be less. I'll see when i map it.
You can make it I'm sure. But i guess if you rode 700ks you'd be in Italy or France. [cheeky]
Highways - no problem, but last summer in the Alps I averaged 50 km/h (I'm not slow and I took very short breaks).
My nearest long route, we call it "The Road", is open deserted backroads. Average there is 65 km/h.
I'm just saying this because there are so many similar stories about bikers not able to bring theoretical distance into reality. Not getting to where you want to be is a mood spoiler, that's all.
That being said, if ALL participants are hard core riders it's do-able. Beer tastes better after long days.
Bloody hel I'd love to so much but I don't get back from Thailand until the 23rd! If it was the following week I would be in for sure!
Whoa, sounds awesome. That would be about 13 tanks for you Matty?

Thailand aye! Ping pong balls and darts............don't forget the safety goggles.
hmmmm... doing some of that tomorrow :D
20,21,22 of what month ?
This month.
This is the map I've put together, it's not quite 700 a day. I was remembering the earlier run up there which was about 680 each day.
The map is here (http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=203419174355975487906.00049924fce9ead8d2f3a&ll=-32.129105,152.138672&spn=4.911491,9.876709&z=7) we could overnight in Gloucester day 1, then head along to Port Macquarie on day 2 and maybe back to Mt Seaview/Jaspers Retreat, day 3 back to Sydney via Putty.
midweek , no chance atm , maybe later in the year when work is quiet
Looks good Matty.
Thats gonna be a great trip, I would love to go, but I just commited to go in the opposite direction that weekend. Well if anyone wants to go in Feb ? I could make it. Looking at your map that is the way i went, there is only one way thru Bylong Valley and its 90% river flats. I mean its a beautifull ride etc etc but its no RNP or Old Rd. I really liked the bit thru East Gresford an Dungog on the first day. when you see the signs "caution falling rocks, do not stop" they are not kidding, there were large boulders sprinkled across the road when I went thru.

"ËX"Cakeman slash Andrew wanted to make the ride and comes back from Thaliand that weekend i think. If it was the following one that would give him a week to get rid of any diseases etc. Just a thought, thats all......

Too late, they are here to stay for good
though the 28th, 29th and 30th would be great for me (i think the 27th is a public holiday)........ but dont work around me fellas, what ever works for the group
I guess it depends on who can come along
Gino has said yes, are you in for either week Brian?
So if you are sure to be able to go the week after yeah we can go then but i dont want to change it and have others drop out and then end up having everyone dropping out.
So pipe up those who can go on what dates, 20th, 21st, 22nd or the week after 27th ,28th, 29th. The public holiday is Wednesday 26th for a-stralya day.

Just a bit wet, rest of the day was mostly dry. Did almost 700ks, oh and i want a Multi 1200
Okay back to topic, let's go on a tour then. [thumbsup]
Glad i piked then mate....Michael txt me about it but i was caught up...spoke to him tonight....coffee tomorrow morn to see what he has for "certain other bikes"....
As for the following week....thats cool with me..........just wondering how many pairs of undies and socks i can fit in my backpack next to my toothbrush of course.. ;)
Could you imagine me with a bag tank..? hmmmmmm........If you are booking accomodation MV (love those initials), could i please have a deluxe room with ensuite with an ocean view.....? ;D

After my little ride yesterday i think the route might change a little, cause i think the Bylong Valley Way is a better road heading to Rylstone and not from. So we might head up the Putty on day 1.
I'll go and take a look and see how it works out.
i think the Bylong Valley way is best done in my Discovery with air suspension :D

Okay folks so here is the plan as far as I see it.
27th January, Day 1 map leaving Sydney, Putty, Singleton, Dungog, Nowendoc, Walcha = 472 k's not including getting to meeting point (http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=203419174355975487906.0004994c71bf131f70fcb&z=7)
28th January, Day 2 Walcha, Oxley Hwy - Port Macquarire, Nabiac bike Museum, Gloucester = 414 k's a light day (http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=203419174355975487906.0004994d418d346eb787e&ll=-31.660395,152.251282&spn=1.234354,2.469177&z=9)
29th January, Day 3, Gloucester, Nowendoc, Singleton, Denman, Bylong Valley Way, Rylstone, Lithgow, Bells Line = 529 k's, not including getting home (http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=203419174355975487906.0004994e72d90c8521166&z=8)
Total is just 1415 klms and about 20 odd fuel stops for the 4 valvers..... [roll] again, I want a multi
Dont want to throw a curve ball MV, when I did this run couple of years ago we stayed at Nundle in a beautiful old pub then started the Oxley at Tamworth (I am told that there is a wonderful bike museum in Tamworth) and when you get to the museum at Nabiac you will need quite a few hours to look through it, its huge and worth spending the time there.
We also rode most of the Oxley back the other way, what a blast! Definately would encourage everyone to do that road in both directions.
Mmick
Thanks Mmick,
I've been to the Tamworth Museum with Nick on our last ride up that way. I know there is a further part to the Oxley but I was trying to keep the k's to a reasonable level cause I'm not sure of everyone's touring legs or butt and didn't want to chuck 600+ days at people.
That's why day 2 is just 414 to gives us much time to take in the Museum at Nabiac.
There's always next time.
I'm not buying a Multi for nothing.....
Hang on, have I missed something? I thought this Bylong Valley Way was meant to be the bikers road-of-roads ... doesn't sound that way.
Matty, I had a look at your maps ... and:
- is there a reason you are going into Port Macquarie?
- there seems to be a little 'double-back' atound Nabiac ... is that to get to the museum?
Since you will be in the Port area maybe its worth sending a PM to Caz ... just as a courtesy to share the Monster love.
Might also be worth contacting the museum at Nabiac if you are likely to be there later in the day (just to make sure they don't close up early). They have lots of bikes and they are really packed in there ... if its not your thing it is easy to get bored. Of course if it is your thing you could be there for a looong time.
If you get bored, Forster/Tuncurry is not far away, head there for a swim and some seafood.
Been to both museums. nabiac is huge and very interesting if you have a wide taste in bikes. Tamworth is much smaller and has a more "modern" bikes, including a very very nice green frame (replica I think)
No real reason to head into Port, maybe for a swim if it's warm enough and not raining!
Also just to do all of the Oxley from where we join it at Walcha.
Doubling back just for Nabiac cause, why not it's a decent road.

Goldfish (no pressure to come along and enjoy the company and fabulous Oxley Hwy, no pressure at all, nothing from this corner......)

Scones! ;D
Yes we need a good habadasherey store with the right kind of doylies and kids cups for baby cinos.
Bike is booked into D Moto for next week for its 30k service, a suspension tweak etc etc...
Thats plan 1 done.... now for the hard part of the plan - getting permission to play...
If only Vince was coming, we could use the old "Arancini Happy Meal" bribery tool...
Use it anyway and make the "old man" feel shitty about not having a rego-ed bike to come out with. But then he is only used to riding 20 mins at a time, albeit flat out. But now that the bug has passed he may be tempted into some street action again. We just have to get him to see what that thing he is waiting for will be useless, 240 section rear [roll]

It would be a waste of a service and suspension set up not to go on a road trip.
Just got back from a holiday down the Snowies â€" old stomping ground - Tumbarumba/Tooma/Tintaldra/Cabramurra/Cooma/Bega…Sydney. No bike, all car, eerrrgghh to car travel â€" some great roads which all the way I was dreaming of cornering the bike into some of those superb alpine roads. Nonetheless a great holiday.
Now reading about this little tour Matty has collated â€" I’m keen for part of the route â€" does this bother people? Possibly to Gloucester then out to Highway along Bucketts Way for me. Bike near due for a service and I wouldn’t want to run the risk of something going CLUNK along the furthest point on the route indicated.
Matty is the post below still the fixed route:

Suggest someone takes a "GRYYP" puncture repair kit along. Noticed a nail embedded in the rear while taking a break Wednesday arvo. Had it repaired and was on my way again within 15mins and have done over 1000 k's on it since. Highly recommend these kits. (better to have it an not want it, than want it an blah blah blah) ;) Have a great trip.
Dam......beats my man bag Goldy........... ;D
Any room left in there for my toiletries..?
I'm sure we can accommodate Brian. Just investigating how much space a mocca pot, cups, burner and hand grinder will take up.
Space is charged at a premium, after all it is a posh Italian milk crate.

2 pairs of undies!? It's 3 days, not 3 weeks.
You're spot on though.. Half a back back at most.. I expect the other half of:
- Brian's to be filled with cleaning materials and cotton buds.
- Matty's to be filled with Camera Gear
- Goldy's to be filled with Coffee and his Crisis Courier's contract
- Craigo's to be filled with little plates/rocks for him to balance his spikey bike stand on (and maybe a couple of flyers he can hand out to flog the 696 off)
- Gino's to be filled with spare globes for his lights
- Cakey's to be filled with holiday pictures and spare SD Cards
- Heather's to be filled with the clothes she needed to get up here in the first place.
.. Who else is going!?
P.S - hope someone actually takes tooth paste.
I was never a boy scout but being prepared is a good thing for road trips.
So yes the count is right on the smalls and tooth brush and paste.
We also have the local rain cloud aka Brian W coming along with us, so the Adams family grey clouds will follow.
Wets might be a good thing to pack, maybe a spare pair of gloves a 500mm for some good action shots on the Oxley Hwy.
Gonna be a hot one it appears - 40+(!) degree days predicted from Thursday to Saturday.

Is the zipper being funny? Sorry mate, hope it isn't causing too much trouble.

I am just grateful for the loan to be honest. Sorry, i should have pm'd you regarding the you know what mate. Pls check now to save further embarrassment here.
Kindest regards,
Brian

Awesome room for me and goldie! ;D
Craigo, your room looks great, you must have been upgraded to the deluxe suite. I am rooming with Andrew/cakeman who, for some odd reason likes to sleep wearing ear plugs.... Andrew, next time you shout out in a loud voice from our room (door open) "my ars hurts", please remember to further explain that it is because of a full day on the bike . [roll]. Loooooong day today I have been told, 6am start.......... Time to wake them all

Thanks all, more commentary later when the kids are in bed..... On to daddy duties after 3 days away..
thanks for an absouletly brilliant, unforgettable 3 days! i had an absoulete awsome time (everything except bunking with brian). Brilliant roads, beaitiful country side and great company made it a tour to remember!
thanks matty for organising the logistical side of it and thanks to heather, nick, brian and craig for some truely great company!
apart from my little lowside which wasnt to bad and i can now say i had my first accident (with pride) i dont think i could have asked for a better 3 days!
Thanks everyone!!!!.......... where are we going next?!?!?!
RIGHT!!
We need all the photo's posted up pronto
And outrageous stories to go with them.
Brian, what happened to those nickers that you kept so close to you the whole journey?
Mmick
Attendees of Le Tour de Oxley 2011.
Brian "The Norse of Rain"
Heather "I'll go on Tour"
Craig "Your not recording this"
Andrew "my ass hurts"
Nick "Double shot, half milk, latte"
Matty "Will you put that camera down"
It was a late start to Thursday morning I'm told, Nick and I were 1 minute and 50 secs late to the meeting point I'm told by Heather who always had her lid on first after every fuel stop ready to go before any of the blokes.
The first run up the hill to Colo Heights saw Craigo fire out in front on a hot run, it was not easy work catching him up before we stopped in for the first of many fuel stops for the thirsty and fun to ride 4 valvers.
Can I say again I am not good friends with the Pilot Pures I am running and they will shortly be gone as will a couple of others be needing new rubber.
The rest of the run up the Putty was pretty good, Craigo was certainly on my tail the whole way his skills on the "plush suspension" of the S2R800 opened everyones eyes the whole 3 days. Once we got out of the fun and were on the run into Singleton (more fuel) we lost one of the touring group after his OCD played tricks on him.
Into Gloucester for lunch and more fuel (are you getting the theme) by way of Dungog/Gresford which was a little bumpy but enjoyable none the less.
After lunch was the run up Thunder bolts into Walcha for our first night of country hospitality!!!
So much fun up that bit of road, pretty decent when it comes to surface or I might just be remembering it differently. A little stop at the look out on the top of the mountain then over the other side where the corners are mostly 75-95+ leading to long long long straights. It didn't take too long for the pace to increase and increase and...... well someone took off and one after the other we caved and played chasing!!! Of course we only reached about 135k's officer, honest we did.
The road we had gone to ride got a little wet on the morning of day 2, we did have our rain god with us and he worked like a charm. Vision was shite to say the least along with the leaf debris and bark strips all over the road. It did clear up half way along and once you passed the road work lights and car or 3 it was an epic run to Jaspers Lodge and on into Wauchope for guess what...
Long u-turn short we ended up in Port Macquarie for a late lunch before having to take the freeway to get to the Nabiac turn off and onto the Bucketts Way back into Gloucester. It was far too late in the day to take in the museum so that will have to be another trip.
Early start for the run home which took in the same route plus a drive by the dairy before getting to Singleton then on to Denman and the glorious road The Bylong Valley way, the pace got a bit hot in places along the way and Andrew had to have a little lye down before getting into Rylstone. Last stop went through Lithgow to head home along Bells.
There are no stories we were all very well behaved and went to bed early each night to get maximum sleep before riding the next day.
Everyone drank water all day and all night, though we did lash out in the evening and have a twist of lemon in our ice water.
There are not many photos to look through (160, edited) I didn't shoot all that much this ride.

Bent over method preferred when on an incline! Great photos guys. I brought a camera along, but then quickly remembered that Matty and Brain were with me, so the camera never came out.
Best coffee of the trip? Perhaps the morning in Walcha (with a H), follows by the espresso bar in port mq.
Best food had to be the pork belly in Glouster. You were all so jealous (except for H of course). I have to thank Brian for pushing me into that particular selection.

Semi-thread-jack questions about the blue S4R....
What's the black clamp on the fork?
How do you like the frame mounted GoPro footage?
Well done Matty, for the "editted/censored" version of the trip.........Mmick,......give me a day to recover then i will let loose with the keyboard and tell exactly what went on......None of this "what happens on tour stays on tour crap"..............warts and all, no holds barred stuff is my only style........... And Wellsy.......as for your bag.....forget it,...its mine now, i have already found a spot for it next to my Harley one......go and buy another you tight ars....... ;D.......and Andrew.......my room "partner" i strongly suggest you change your password here so that your wife/partner can't log on..... [popcorn]
And, yes........before anyone asks.......i did wash my bike Saturday night.......one can of degreaser, chain clean.......etc etc etc......bellypan off, chain covers and sprocket covers removed.....OCD kicked in and i was out of control......And to you, Master Wells.......i cleaned "that hole/tube" that i have seen you sticking your finger up to check if i clean there [thumbsup] hahaha....!
Brian W
Good to see you all had a good time, and made it back in one piece [thumbsup]
Yeah Brian tell us all the dirt.
I see you bunked with Cakeman, Goldie with Craigo, who did Heather bunk with? [evil]
The sleeping quarters was all about noise.....
Craigo and I, having been in this situation before, understood that we are both heavy sleepers and snore like troupers. Thus, we decided instantly that we were to be roommates.
Matty and Heather (also been on tour together before) are light sleepers, so that choice was easy...
That just left Brian and Andrew. Now, none of us were aware of Brian's midnight orchestra; which Andrew promptly pointed out after night 1. Countermeasures were deployed for night 2. I'll leave the others to fill in the details...
Why didn't this one make it to the highlights package....

Of course we knew your bike would be washed the night you got home, but it didn't really need to be.
It already has a hallow around it.

And to answer your question Stopintime, the clamp around the fork leg of the blue S4R is another Go-Pro mount.
I think the owner might be a little busy to post any of the footage, there needs to be a couple of things worked out before we might see anything from the trip.
The Bronster has coined Brian W "Mr Teflon" - shit does not stick to his bike (or perhaps to him)

Awesome countryside the whole way. There were a number of times I was tempted to just stop and take in the views.
Brilliant trip people, one of the touring party is still on the road making her way home still while doing some vital road research for everyone.
I know what you are talking about being a little under whelmed by Thunder Bolts, Nick and said the same thing when we rode it last year.
Plan on doing it again at least twice this year. I know we all had a great time not only riding but hanging out in the evening.
My memory of Thunderbolts was me and a mate trying to out run a storm that was coming in from the south east, the rest of the touring party gave up and stopped to put wet weather gear on, all I remember was it was fast (very) and bumpy.
Mmick
this is what i think your looking for brian ....... http://au.oakley.com/products/3621 (http://au.oakley.com/products/3621)
Well home at last. Took an enjoyable, indirect route home. Found some gravel that was way too deep to attempt so turned back. Found closed roads in the Grampians closer to home so had to turn back there too. Weather turned cool and cloudy 5kms from home and it's now raining so maybe it's not Victoria but Hamilton that has the problem!! Will write up my road research in a separate thread.
Had an excellent time on tour. Like Goldy my camera stayed packed away whilst Matty was around. Excellent photos as always Matty. Some of them are screaming out for captions. Glad you're okay Cakeman. Let us know how the repairs go. Wish my bike was as clean as Teflon's.
All up I did 4081km and my Odo is now reading 79 761km so my next outing is the 300kms to Brad's shop.
Things I learned on this trip.
I can do 292km on a tank and still have a litre of fuel left and can strap a 5L fuel can on my bike so that it doesn’t spill. (This happened prior to the start of Le tour de Oxley whilst I was making my way to Sydney)
Banana smoothies cure a hangover. Try it. [wine]
Having low sided myself in December, it is more sickening watching a riding companion having an off.
There is a limit to how fast I feel comfortable going. (May have something to do with the point above) Thanks for waiting for me guys.
The Oxley Hwy is not as much fun in the rain. :'(
After a 670km day, it takes quite some time for feeling to return to certain parts of the body. (This was on my way home after the tour Bathurst to Beechworth) :o
OzMo people are the best people in the world to go touring with. (Nah â€" I already knew that) [thumbsup] [moto] [thumbsup]
Lovely to know you are home Heather.
I'd love to do 292k's from a tank, though I did get home easily from Lithgow on that fill, I am sure my fuel light will come on quickly though.
You know we'd always wait for you whenever on the road, as you know it's not about the pace it's about the ride and the company.
Thanks for the photo compliment but they are all snap shots really just to record the people and the time away.
I ticked 30,000k's on THE Putty on the way up and 31,000k on the way down on The Bylong Valley Way. ;D
Tyres are next for a few of us.
Sounds like I missed a great ride :'(
Hope to be ready for the next one, Can't wait to have a beer with Matty [beer]
