so after work tomorrow i am heading down to the shop to get my spot in line for a matte black 696 monster. is there anything i should know? should i bite the bullet and get the Termignoni system? is it something the dealer can take care of for me? should i ask for all the stock parts back as well? any help would be good. thanks
The dealer can take care of it. If you have them do it, get the stock parts back. You may need them for inspections or because certain states don't allow aftermarket pipes.
They're unlikely to budge on the bike price, but see if you can get them to throw in some gear/first couple services or something. You're spending a lot, see what they'll offer.
Thats kinda the experience I got when buying my bike... bike price is set in stone, but I got $500 of gear for free in the form of a "gift card" that was applied immediately (over half the two piece suit, or the helmet and gloves, however you wanna look at it). Hell, after my experience, I'd probly walk out if they didn't at least give me a helmet.

Yes, don't call it "matte black." It's Dark, baby!
Good luck with it.

Yes... It's not cheap, but you'll regret not having them sooner or later, trust me!! [thumbsup]

Check the 696 appreciation thread re the termis. Some people have reported minor problems with the bike and fuel - but if I recall correctly, it was only those people with new pipes. I read that thread a while back - another school of thought said the pipes were fine, it was poor quality fuel (eg high ethanol content) that was causing the problems.
So I'd probably recommend going stock for the time being. Get some miles under your belt with the new bike, then grab the termis a couple of months from now.
Congrats and welcome to the Monster family. I've ridden the 696 and written a report on it which you can find here in the General Monster Forum. In a nutshell, great bike. You won't be disappointed. Definitely get the Termis installed by the dealer before you pick up the bike. All accessories installed prior to delivery carry the same warranty as the whole bike, whereas any accessories installed afterwards only carry a basic over-the-counter parts warranty, so it's just a bit nicer in that respect. I'd also suggest the carbon cans instead of the Ti as they're much easier to live with as far as cleaning goes. It's easy to scar or stain the Ti and harder to keep 'em clean. The only issue I had was that the EFI mapping seemed to be still very slightly lean, as evidenced by some popping on decel. I believe that if the decibel killers had been in place the extra back pressure would have cured this, and probably even boosted low-end response a bit as well. With the baffles removed, the Termis were a bit on the loud side and the low end was slightly soft, but not bad for the small motor. It definitely pulled well into the upper reaches of the rpm range though. My suggestion would be to try it both ways and stick with whichever you prefer. Overall, great bike. Have fun and keep us posted on how you like it.
I would say get the pipes with the bike. The shop offered (tried to sell) me pipes when I bought my S2R. The sales rep said that sooner or later I would "have to have them". He mentioned that it would be less painful to the wallet if I financed them with the bike. Well, I waited and sure enough, I had to have them and Termi's aren't cheap. Just depends if you would rather have a higher payment, or cough up $1800.00 (or more for the 696 pipes). Either way, in my opinion, the sound is worth every penny!

This is great advice. I never thought about this. I'm already thinking what monster I want next, and it would be good to know how the bike runs stock before getting the Termi's, this way if there is a problem you'll have the DP ECU and cut air box rulled out as the culprit.
Welcome to the DUCATI family! ride safe and start modding!
Here is the thread I mentioned: http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=3839.0
Might be worth a read. [thumbsup]
Is there still a 600 mile service? That's a good time to have the dealer do any mods...
KEEP RECEIPTS! Don't do anything that might endanger your warranty. As long as it's installed by the dealer, you're in good shape [thumbsup]
Gear up, rubber side down, HAVE FUN!!!!!!! [coffee]
Get the pipes...c'mon it would be like passing a cheap hooker in Port-au-Prince - you can't let go.
You might wanna hold off on the Termis and see what other manufacturers come out with. For example, Zard or Arrow might offer a setup you like better, but if not, then get the Termis.
Rubber side down!! [thumbsup]
so i went down to buy the bike today. i was turned down. i have $2,500 for a down but i guess my credit isnt that good. so, oh well, i guess i will be duc less
That sucks ! Well keep adding to that down payment coffer and hopefully one day in the not too distant future things will work out.
Get a copy of your credit report and see what you can do to improve it. It might not be all you - finance companies are much more stringent now.
let the ownership begin. [drink]
that really sucks! You MUST get a copy of your credit report and start paying off what you see as collections, medical, etc.. THEN.. it is a must that you bring your credit card balances down by under 50% of available credit AT LEAST to boost your credit score. I worked as a loan officer for Citibank for 2 yrs and I learned ALL the tricks to improve someone's credit in as little as 2 months!! I've done it with myself, my wife, friends, etc.. If anyone here wants to know tricks to do this. . hit me a PM with your situation and I will help you. Maybe we should even start a thread on this to help ALL! [thumbsup]
You could also look elsewhere to finance then at the dealership... Dealerships are convenient, but there are usually better choices. I have financed a few things at my bold age of 23 and been turned down by the retailer I was purchasing from twice... I looked at some other choices and found more than a few companies who were willing to give me the loan... If you live in a small town this could be a problem, but worth a shot to look at some other companies... Just be aware that the credit card applications will pour into your mail box. Don't be discouraged, just keep looking, someone will want your business.
yeah. ive got a $2,000 hospital bill thatn is 3 years old. thats about it. my g'ma is co signing for me. so it shouldnt be long before im part of the club.

Yeah man, those hospital bills can getcha. :-\
I had an ambulance ride bill from when I shredded my shoulder playing lacrosse that I forgot to settle up on. This meant that I couldn't initially get the loan for part of the cost of the bike that I didn't have (about 1/2)...
-Fortunately, there is a bank across the street from my dealer that was very understanding & has a good relationship w/the Duc dealer, so they were able to hook me up..
-Don't worry, you'll be tearin' up the streets before you know it. Hang in there!! :)
i got it. payed cash. its sitting in my carport right now. i am the most happy person alive.

YEAAAAAAAAAHH!!!!>. I know the feeling!!!! [beer]
one trick i heard about improving your credit score is to increase your limit. Allegedly, the score is in part calculated by the difference between your balance and your limit. Allegedly.
Hey, think of it this way, if you wait long enough you can find one used. No sales tax, no bogus set up charge, might even find one with the cans you want.

That is true, but you have to be careful when you request your credit line increase because most lenders will have to place a hard inquiry in your credit report to see if you qualify, which will look like you applied for new credit. Have the cust service rep guarantee you that he will do a soft inquiry to review your credit. that way it will not adversely affect your score.

Also, if you have TOO much credit, compared to your income, your score can go down :P
