I want to do a tail chop but I realized my Remus Exhaust will be sticking out about 5-6 inches. Not sure if this will look out of place. Any thoughts? I love these pipes but I'm thinking I may need to change them out for something shorter if I do a tail chop. Here's a pic of my bike for reference.

You could possibly cut down the length of the cans. It will likely change the sound a bit, but could save you a lot of $$.
I photoshopped it to see how it would look with no tail and the pipes sticking out. I think I'm okay with it actually. What do you guys think? Do I need to shorten the pipes or does this work:

i think (just my opinion) that the cutting the pipes back flush with the tail would look siiiiiiick.
Mine turned out the same way, and I think it looks just fine. I'm sure others think differently, but it's my bike, so I dont care what they think ;D

It would look fine, IMO. Sure, it might look a little better if they were shortened, but would it be worth the effort?
I've got the TI version of those Remus pipes w/ a chopped tail and integrated taillight. The pipes stick out about 2", maybe 2 /12" past the license plate bracket. It looks OK, but I will probably attempt to chop the cans this winter.
I've heard it described as "wheelbarrow butt." I don't think I'm comfortable with having "wheelbarrow butt." You can describe other parts of my anatomy with other garden implements, but "wheelbarrow butt" isn't working for me.
I cut mine and I like it
Is there a thread that describes cutting the pipes. I wouldnt know where to cut them or how. Would you do it near the ends and then reposition the chrome ends?
cutting the pipes will be a huge pregnant dog
cutting the cans is easy. remove the rear cap, cut with a band saw, drill a couple of mount holes and insert pop rivets .. you're golden
the pipes will have bends in them that will not allow the cans to line up. if the pipe radius is the same ALL the way thru to the inside of the can, then you can cut away the welds inside the can and saw it down, then reweld, but that is a much more tricky job AND it only works if the pipes are the same diameter and straight.

I like the way my remus exhaust looks with a tail chop/
Hi,
why don't use the shorty fender... the frame will be +/- 3 in. shorter and I thing it will be the same length with your pipes

I've seen that set-up - looks better live than on pictures - a bit race'y 8)
Don't know if it's possible, but maybe the upper part of the s-pipes could be shortened instead of the cans?

Ducatiz: those s-pipes are different - cans in the same position, no?
ducatiz:
Those pipes are stock from Remus... it's just that it's an s2r. It does look like the OP's cans may sit a hair further back than mine though.

I'm just saying to be careful because you can't be assured it's a "straight" angled pipe going into the front of the can. If you cut the can and shorten the pipe and then reconnect it and it's 5 deg off, the can will never sit right.

yep I agree. Also cutting the frame is going to make resale a challenge with the guy that does not want a fiddled bike. Have you considered cutting the midpipe and moving the mufflers forward?

I had it done by a mechanic for $100. My problem isn't cutting, it's those dam rivets.

I personally think that it looks just fine. When I get the chance, the first thing I am doing to my S4R is chopping the tail and tucking the plate up under the seat. Go for it, IMO. [thumbsup]
well I went for it and it looks great. The kit was a breeze much easier mod than I had thought. I also changed the decal to the 80s logo while I was at it. Here's the pics. Thanks for all the feedback. I think I am going to see about getting the muffler shortened by a mechanic I got a buddy that might be handy with rivets.
