So is this the College Football 2012 thread or the bash Ohio State thread?  ;D

No mention of Michigan getting their asses handed to them by Bama? OSU really makes the conference looks bad right? How about a Big Ten team other than OSU beating a top ten team.

All the shit talking about OSU doesn't matter to me anymore.  We've got Urban and everything is going to be just fine in Buckeye land.  The days of Tresselball are over and the up-tempo spread is sure fun to watch. Especially with Braxton running the show.  I think he has a shot at getting to NY.

I'm trying very hard to be a better fan this year after last years humble pie.  So I'll just say this.  We'll see how my team compares to your guys' teams at the end of the year. I'm putting my money on OSU having a better record than most of the teams out there.  Especially Michigan.

Bama- clearly the team to beat once again.  If USC can get by without key injuries I think they can take the crown this year.

So enjoy friends, I'm going to try very hard not to comment in here and just let the season play out.  Here's to another great year of college football.  [beer]

Who'd the Buckeyes open their season against? Oh yeah...Miami...and not even the mediocre Miami.  [laugh]

Talk to me when your team has the sack space to nut up against arguably the best team in the nation.
Yup...we lost. But I sure as shit think that OSU would have lost just as bad in the same situation. But I am not picking on just OSU...I think other than maybe 2 or 3 teams, they would have done the same to any team in the nation.

WVU looks pretty solid even though they were only playing Marshal. Will be nice to see someone dirt stomp Texas other than Oklahoma in the Big 12.

The SEC...and I mean the REAL SEC is still the conference to beat. USC...I'll reserve judgement for them until they play tougher opponents than Surf Board U and Syra-who.

It could have been a different story had Michigans players not been suspended..as in a closer score. I'm sure UM would've still gotten beat.  I hate to see that but after that game..I'm even a fan of Bama now!  UM can lose every game this season for all I care  The only two games that are really important are against MSU and the osu.

I just wasted 30 minutes reading through constant updates to comments in ESPN.com between ND and UM fans. What a freaking waste of time. The only thing I know is that ND's defense is very good, but their offense sucks (specifically their passing O). UM's D has forced the O to break pretty much every record just to keep up with not so good offenses.

As much as it makes me physically ill to type this, I think the Buckeyes are making a HUGE case that whoever makes it to a bowl game from the Big 10 this season won't deserve it as much as they do.

The Big 12 has proven once again that the offenses are good because the defenses are bad.

And Iowa State has suckerpunched yet another top 25 team. So much for TCU's winning streak...

I was too and it was gruesome.  Gamecock fan or not, it's heart breaking to see his season and possibly what would surely have been a promising pro career ended that way after what he did to come back after last year's injury.

No broken bones, knee was dislocated and ligament damage. Hopefully he can recover and have the career in the 'Show' he deserves. He is a great kid, if you know nothing about him, google his name.

Yes, I've seen that and that is great news. I went to Carolina and still live here so I'm aware of him and you're right, he is a great kid. He's got a great attitude about too so he will no doubt do great things whatever happens. Still, the video is tough to watch.

I know what you meant. Hehe. And being a Michigan fan, it made my fingers burst into flames giving them as much credit as I did! Lol.

But, OSU did a great job considering the circumstances. I do foresee some great battles coming up in the game though. Ohio State may have "won" this year but Michigan beat themselves. Neither offense was impressive the second half but then a win is a win. Even if the opposing team's offense stayed in the locker room after the half. Lol

Thanks for the "credit".  As I said on the first page of this thread.  I thought OSU would win more games than just about any team.  Only ND can say they won as many no one can say they won more (yet).  I'll take the one year bowl ban for Urban and a 12-0 season.  OSU's bowl this year is recruiting.  Urban is a recruiting assasin and will be out flipping recruits for the next month. I couldn’t be more proud of this year’s seniors and how well they handled adversity.  Do I think they are the best team in the country? No. I do think they could play anyone tough.  This is what makes me so happy for the future.  This was not one of OSU’s most talented teams and Meyer still got them up enough to win every game.  I can’t wait to see what happens when he has his players in place.

As to the upcoming “battles” in The Game the next few years, I just don’t see it.  Michigan beat no one this year.  You were lucky to beat MSU and NU and got better when your best player got hurt.  Hoke is not even in Meyer’s league as a coach.  Coaches that coach coaches not players hardly ever work (see John Cooper).  I was at the game Saturday and in the second half he just stood there with no headset on while his team got worked.  The refs kept you in it for the first half but after that you had nothing on offense.  I will say your defense played much better than I thought they would. You better hope Mattison doesn’t jump ship soon. But if you think “Michigan is back” you’re just wrong.  When you can consistently beat good teams (no, VT last year doesn’t count) you can say you’re back, you’re not there yet not close. You beat the worst OSU team in 100 years last year.  I hope you enjoyed it.

There is a great article on Yahoo by Dan Whetzel  that basically says the Big Ten should be on notice that it’s only going to get better for OSU and worse for the rest of the conference.

That being said good luck to all the Big Ten teams in bowls and here’s to hoping Nebraska wins Saturday so Wisconsin won’t choke away a third straight Rose Bowl.

Urban did a spectacular job. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but metallimonster is right. I will hate to see what Meyer can do when the lift the ban and after he recruits "his" guys.

An OSU fan putting words in my mouth...I am shocked by this. And as for OSU playing with anyone? Right. Name one team they played this season that had anything going for them. That's right. You can't. OSU is top dog in a mediocre conference.
West Virginia is a similar team. They were top dog in a conference of perpetual under-achievers but as soon as they moved to a competitive conference, they found out they weren't up to the task. I seriously wish OSU had taken the bowl ban last year so ND or Alabama could lay the serious ass whooping down on them.
The Big 10 is weak and being the strongest of the weak conference doesn't make you a "contenda". It makes you the best of the middle. There is a reason why the AP poll has OSU at number 4 behind 1 undefeated team and 2 1 loss teams.

I say all if this knowing my team is middle of the pack in the middle class Big Ten. But you are naive if you think OSU beat Michigan this year. Michigan beat themselves. They adjusted for the second half and shouldn't have. Watch the game again and see that the offense in the first half was running circles around OSU's D but when they came out in the second half, there was none of the aggressive play calling they had before. They went conservative to protect the lead and by the time they needed to have it back, the rhythm was gone.
But you keep telling yourself that OSU is competitive.

Btw, Dan Wetzel is worse than Eddie George when it comes to trying to drain OSU's scrotum through the "straw".

Dude you try so hard to put OSU fans down for the same exact way that you act about your team.  The Michigan little brother complex is really coming out today.

Michigan lost 4 games OSU lost 0.  You can only play the teams on your schedule. I'm willing to bet you $100 that when OSU scheduled Cal they were ranked higer than Alabama when Michigan scheduled them.  OSU is the only Big Ten team to consistently schedule tough out of conference teams.  And OSU is for damn sure the only Big Ten team to beat any top tier teams in last 12 years.  You tell me Michigan fan how my team is not competitive when you won 2 conference title in 12 years to OSU's 8. You wish your team was "top dog" in our mediocre conference. You keep telling yourself Michigan is back while I watch my team play for National Titles.

I'm at a loss for words on how you compare West Virginia to Ohio State. West Virginia was so good that Michigan took their coach. You remember how that worked out don't you? HA HA HA.

YOU are also making my point for me about this year's team.  They weren't that great but still beat every team on their schedule. Including your team who supposedly came out in the second half and said here Urban, we're spotting you one for this year so the rivalry will come back.  It had nothing to do with OSU's D right? We came out in the second half hit both of your QB's for fumbles and had 2 picks.  That was all Borge's plan right? Not to mention that when you knew we we're running Hyde at the end and you still couldn't stop him. I love how you call me naive when your the one who needs a reality check. Michigan got lucky last year, had a better team this year and lost 4 games.  My team had the only losing season since 1988 (you had 3 in a row before 2011) and came back and won twice as many games. Good luck with fat Hoke who's never won a conference title. I'll take my chances with Urban and his 2 national titles.

And this is just stupid. Wetzel was one of the main contributors to the original Yahoo story on tatgate.

I actually personally know Eddie as he is a business partner of my Father-in-Law. I know for a fact that he tries very hard to never talk to much about OSU and same for Herbstriet. Now Griese that guy can never keep his mouth shut about Michigan.

You can see it any way you want bud.  I know I'm happy with my team.  After the Rich Rod years I'd be happy and delusional about Hoke if I were a Michigan fan too.

Listen, you delusional twit, quote me once where I said "Michigan is back". You can't so stop putting words in my mouth.
This is just like an clueless OSU fan who takes a compliment and then twists it into some kind of personal affront.
You keep spewing "the last 12 years". And you keep spewing about 8 Big 10 titles. The Big Ten as a conference has been irrelevant the last 10 years. Ask any bookie in Vegas who matters in the here and now and even without sanctions, your Buckeyes aren't even in the top 5 discussion.
So keep on thinking your team is "back".
I will put up $1000 that your Buckeyes aren't in the top 3 next year and struggle to even make the Rose Bowl.

Okay dude you win. Im sorry you feel that way about the conference you're in and have so much trouble winning. Ohio State doesn't have the most BCS wins and was lucky to win against Michigan. But really is the Internet name calling worth it?

I will honestly say good luck in your bowl I truely am rooting for UM to win.

I guess we'll just see how next year plays out, I've got a good feeling you're going to be wrong. But really that's not much of a stretch is it.

Sorry to the rest of you for my part in this arguing.

You keep acting like I am here saying that Michigan is taking it all in the near future. I'm not. In fact, read through the whole thread and find where I said we were even taking the Big Ten title this year. I didn't. I did say it would be nice but wasn't going to happen.

I gave props to your team. You seemed to take that as some challenge to your honor and jumped down my throat with a page long tirade about how bad Michigan was and how awesome OSU is.
I even agreed with you in that I think that OSU is the best team in the Big Ten. But the Big Ten isn't shit right now. I insulted every single team in the Big Ten. Mine. Yours. All of them because it is a fact.

I honestly wish OSU would have taken the bowl ban last year instead of this year. I stated that. At least then we could put the "what if" argument to rest.

I apologize for calling you a twit. The delusional part still holds true because as fans of our respective teams, we both have delusions. We wouldn't be fans if we weren't.

Anyway, neither team is going to the show. The Big Ten will struggle in bowl games this year. The future remains unwritten.

And where the hell was that Wisconsin team the rest of the season? Before the game, I was disappointed that they made it simply through attrition but they played possessed. Definitely played like they belonged in the Big Ten championship game and for sure earned their Rose Bowl berth through that one game alone.

My Wolverines are going to the Outback Bowl. Tampa is way better than Iowa in January.  [laugh]

The surprise (to me at least...) NIU going to the Orange Bowl to face Florida State. And their only loss came to the Hawkeyes who had an absolutely abysmal season after that game.

So the games are set. And now we wait...

I think Notre Dame's D will dictate who wins the game. If they show up, then they have a chance.

Mostly I tend to agree with you but the SEC defenses haven't been what one would call stellar this year. But then most of the good SEC teams drafted like 4-6 defensive players each last year. Hehe.

I am just hoping for a good game. Hopefully the Tide wins though because them Catlicks can be worse than a Buckeye! (I keed! I keed!)

Zil- I think your boys can take out the Game Cocks.  Need to handle their D-line but a healthy duo of Drob and Gardner is pretty cool especially when there will be no reason to leave plays in the playbook.

Because of Penn State and Ohio State sanctions all the Big Ten teams are in harder bowls than they should be. I don't see many wins for the conference.  I really want the conference to win but I'm hoping Wisky gets beat down in a third straight Rose Bowl. I hate Michigan becuase I have to, but respect them. I have no respect for fat Bielma and Wisky. His comments about why they are where they were really stupid.

I'm very conflicted on the National Championship game.  I really don't want the SEC to win but I'm hoping the Buckeyes get a chance to be the knock them off next year.  Lots of things can happen so I guess I'll root for the Fighting Lou Holtzes. It their D plays stout I think they have a good shot of winning. Could go ugly quickly too.

Got to hand it to Nick Saban.  Guy is a dick IMO but man does he know how to win. That ND team could do nothing.  All I could think of was the what if's but I'm not going to go down that road.

I know that there are a bunch of Buckeye haters on here (probably more now due to my comments) but I have a question for all the Non-SEC/Bama fans on here.  Are Urban and the Buckeyes the only hope for the rest of the country to knock of the SEC/Bama?  Seems like teams keep trying (yes I know OSU is 2 of the 7 straight teams to fall to the SEC) and failing pretty hard.  Urban is building an SEC caliber team in Columbus and I just don't see any other coaches out there who know how to beat SEC teams and have the players to do so.

There are other hopes. I think Oregon has the best chance right now. They would have played far better than ND IMO. A sleeper is (don't laugh) Washington. Washington is an extremely young team...they could be very, very good in 2-3 years. USC should always have a chance, except for their douche coach.

I don't think the Buckeyes have any better chance than the other major schools. They are among the hopes though.

USC went from ranked #1 to 7-6 I don't see them competing under Lane Kiffin.

To me Oregon is a challenger but I haven't seen them beat a really good team (with a good defense) that has time to prepare for them.  Auburn, Ohio State, LSU, and even Boise beat their better teams.  I think Bama would have rolled them this year and the KSU team they beat had a really good QB but not a good/great defense.

The main reason I say the Buckeyes have the best chance is that Urban knows how to beat SEC teams. Chip Kelly hasn't proven that yet.  I think ND can compete again, give Kelly some time to recruit his guys and we'll see what happens. No way Washington competes for it anytime soon but they are an up and coming team.

Really dude? I know you guys in the Big 10 are a bit dillusional, but damn. The only teams that can even come close to Bama are all in the SEC. The only hope now would be to pray for a bad recruiting class so that another SEC team wins it (hopefully not the Gaytors).

His question was which non-SEC team can knock them off though.

The Big 10 sucks in general. OSU probably has the best shot out of them though due to their coach.

I agree on USC...hence the db coach comment. They're USC though...they should always be a contender. It has to be one of the easiest places to recruit players...tradition, weather, education, girls, etc. Nevermind some of the best HS players in the country are in their backyard. That said, I hate USC!  [laugh]

Any team that beats 'Bama is going to have to have a stellar defense, because 'Bama has one. That's the problem. Great offenses aren't that hard to build...great defenses are difficult to build for whatever reason, especially in college.

Triple you are absolutely right about USC but Kiffin needs to go.  I know their recruting class this year is pretty good. And right now Urban is trying to build that SEC type defense at OSU in recruiting.  I think it can be done.

Carlos outside of the SEC Urban is the only multi National Championship winning coach so I like the Buckeyes chances of at least winning one sometime in the next few years.  I never once said the Big Ten is good but the SEC after Bama, GA, and A&M was not exactly ganbusters this year.  All I'm saying is that I think the Buckeyes, Oregon, ND (maybe) and yeah probably USC are the only teams out there the can come close to the top SEC schools.

As of right now the SEC is the only conference to get blanked in a National Championship game  ;D

We'll see how it plays out the next few years.

If anyone can do it, it will be Urban because as you know that's where he came from and that's why in his first year he crushed in the Big 10 ( [roll]). He knows how to coach in the SEC style of the game. Oregon will first have to get there for a chance, but an offensive line like Alabama has would wear their defense down before halftime. Basketball on grass will never win against the SEC.

The SEC should have its own division. In the realm of reality, OSU would be killed by the top 6 teams in the SEC

Oh yeah, that Florida team that was what 3rd in the SEC looked so good getting their asses handed to them by a louisville team that backed into the BCS, LSU looked really good getting beat by Clemson, and oh wait Mississippi State dominated North Western right? Really Georgia and South Carolina didn't play great either. No way OSU would beat any of those teams right?

You call me delusional but you might want to look in the mirror.  The SEC is just as topsided as any conference and the bottom of the conference is just as bad as the bottom of other conferences.

I'm not saying the Big Ten is great but if you think that OSU would end up 7th in the SEC your just wrong. But think what you like, we'll see what happens next year and in years to come.

Who i think would have beat OSU:

Alabama
Georgia
LSU
Texas A&M
Gaytors
Cocks

Top 6 teams. Granted, on any given Saturday, just about anyone can shock the world.

Well all those AP voters must be stupid then because they have OSU ranked higer than all but one of those teams.

But you're right, all of the teams I mentioned before just didn't want to play in their bowls thats why they had a loss/didn't look that good.

Like I said before I'm very confident in my team and coach so we'll just see what happens next year.

Dude I never once said anything other than the SEC is the best conference.  I never really even mentioned the Big Ten. In fact I think OSU would have got rolled by Bama too.  I was just saying that teams like OSU, Oregon, and USC are the only hope to take out the SEC.  I also think you're crazy if you really believe OSU would be the 7th best SEC team but that's just my opinion.

I love you SEC fans who hang on 1 or 2 really good teams a year (while chanting SEC SEC SEC) and can't seem to seperate how topsided the conference is and don't ever want to discuss oversigning, lower academic standards and the fact that almost every decent bowl game is played in your back yard.  Not to mention the subpar performance in this years bowls.

I want to be clear. I'm not trying to take anything away from Bama at all. I think Saban has built an absolute beast of a program and they really are that much better than every other team.  I just want to be the program that topples them! Which I believe is possible soon but you never know in CFB.

my 2 cents...in the grand scheme of life, does this even matter? who cares who the kid was or wasn't dating. i don't care if he invented the entire story or if someone else did. just like i don't care who the bama quarterback is dating... i care about the game of football. who the members of the teams are or aren't dating, real or imaginary is irrelevant to the sport.

Why I care is this; the NCAA has been handing down punishments a lot lately.  If things like selling a jersey, getting an easy part-time job, or heaven forbid free tattoos  [evil] are a "competitive advantage" than how is telling a sob story and having your teammates rally around you not? If he would just be lying about a girlfriend no big deal but he used the story of her dying to get attention in the media and hype up his team.  That's cheating if all the other stupid crap like providing cream cheese for bagels is if you ask me.

Here's what I think happened.  He got catfished, lied about some details (ie actually meeting her) and then we he figured it out he, his parents, coaches and ND officials did nothing before the BCS Title game. Worst thing to ever happen? No, not at all.  But would be a different story if they had won that game.  I also think his dad his a scumbag who is living his life through his son.

There are no NCAA rules against lying about your gf's, or anyone else's, death. There are very clear rules about gifts. Ask any Miami fan about those rules.
Title: Re: College Football 2012
Post by: metallimonster on January 18, 2013, 08:57:34 AM
I completely understand that this is not against the rules but the NCAA likes to hand down punishments for what they deam to be "competitive advantages" and I just don't see how this whole situation was not a competitive advantage for the ND football team.  You've got your main leader in this situation where his grandma and gf died on the same day and you're playing a game that night so lets go out and win this one for Manti.

The NCAA has also made precedence for coming down on players, coaches, programs that lie to them.  This was one big lie.

Thats all I'm saying. Do I think they should get in trouble? No. They got there asses handed to them and Manti's dead girlfriend made about as many tackles as he did.

I guess in a roundabout way that's how I feel too.  Too much other crap that really doesn't matter.  I could care less that he did this, or what happened at Miami or free tattoos. I don't think many CFB fans do.

I just wish the NCAA would be better at basically everything.
