I think I know your photographer...
so this tells me you have at least 80 willpower for that speed to exceed it
What Nate said.
Had my Jetta to 97 yesterday & had Betty to 119 today...

I love living in Europe. I'm so going to miss hitting the cruise control at that speed [evil]
I see plenty of real estate left on that speedo. [coffee]

yeah ,speedos are always very optimistic though.
i used to have a stereo with a volume dial that went up to 11, but in reality it only would go up to 10.

yeah speedo in my TDI goes to 160 and my wife's Q5 goes to 180
just a tad optimistic in each case [laugh]

haha! well put. The other day I was sitting outside a cafe and overheard some guys that were admiring my bike ('01 S4). One of them looks at the speedo and says to his buddies, "oh, it'll do 160..."
Yeah... It'll do 160;)

Jetta is a 2012 GLI model and I've had it to 110 w/PLENTY of rev's left in 6th gear and it's reported to do 145 although I've never been there.... yet.
Betty, OTOH, has an issue w/the DP ecu. Seems I'm still running lean at higher rpm's so this winter, it'll get a power commander and a custom map to extend my rev ceiling...

unless you got rid of it the speed limiter should hit at around 130. When we had our GTI for some reason the speed limiter was 140, nice and stable at that speed too. Just ask the MooseHumper, he wanted one after getting to drive it.
Why he got that chick car instead, we'll never know. [cheeky]

Personally... The GLI is just a cage. A fun one, but still just a cage. If I'm going to get 'popped' by the po-po, it won't be for much over the limit in that thing. I've got no drive to push that thing to it's absolute limit. I got the '145mph' quote from a guy at the dealership when I bought it, so that info is suspect right there...

well... did he mean bone stock?
I mean.. I had a 1998 Volvo S70 R... Very nice bone stock, but with the simple addition of an upgraded IPD cpu, uprated 14 psi turbo, and mist injector, it was easy to get 350 hp out of it.
:-D

it was still pulling ok up to the limiter so it sounds doable if the speed limiter is disabled, not sure sure why our speed limiter was 10 mph higher than it was supposed to be but it was an early '06 and had a few other oddities too.

i was under the impression that these are actually rev limiters..
also, my Golf's speedo reads about 6 mph too fast. checked it with both speed cameras ;D and my GPS

It went exactly to 140 and stopped steady there
I know the GTI speedo was off so I'm sure the 140 was indeed in reality less but it was pulling strong enough prior to the ECU softly sitting it at 140 that the claim of a real 140+ might be close to realistic
It's funny that my TDI is absolutely dead on. No way that is hitting 145 though [laugh]

Does this mean my A4 won't hit 180 either?

it does cut through the wind a bit better than the Q5 so maybe so ;)
Either way... The GLI will toast-up those 205/40/18's though... And often! [evil]

That reminds me of the used car dealer from this commercial...

my old xr had a speedo that went to 120. you would need to be falling from a great height or being towed to get the bike that fast.
but i still like the geeling of speed.
and i loved lethe's gti.
Solid 130mph on the way home from work [evil]

different tune...
I can't drive...
55.
I was tempted to get a similar pic to his today but figured it might wake my wife and she'd be bothered by the speed if I brought it up to around there [laugh]
OK, how about this one.
135 mph driving the wifes new (1 week old) car with the better half riding shotgun and her mother in the back seat.
Did it last summer on the A-5 between Heidelberg and Frankfurt. ;D

No, we picked up the wifes BMW 328 at the Welt in Munich on 26 June and dropped it off in Frankfurt on 6 July. It was redelivered in Anchorage on 22 September.
European deliver is the only way to buy a car.
In a couple of years it will be my turn to do an ED on my new ride.
I wish Ducati would do an ED program, pick up a new [Dolph] in Bolgna and spending a week or two in Merano would be a blast. ;)
