Guys and Gals,
I guess we should start kicking around the idea of another Arkansas trip this fall. [moto] We can stay in the usual spot (Holiday Inn Russellville, AR) or we can try a new place in far northern Arkansas.
The place is Gastons. You can go to www.gastons.com (http://www.gastons.com) and check it out. We can rent rooms or cabins. My dad says at this place a couple times a year and really enjoys it. They have a restuarant onsite and it is right on the river so we can always take a swim to cool off. I did a route up to it and it is about 460 miles from Dallas to it will be a good day's worth of riding. If you guys are interested in it I can work on a route out of there. I think we can find plenty of new roads to try out on the loop so it should be fun.
The reason I picked those dates was that those are away games for the Arkansas Razorbacks so we won't have to deal with people trying to get to NW Arkansas for the game.
Thougths? Suggestions?

I'm interested. Never get my fill of AR roads. [moto] October sounds interesting, not throwing September under the bus either. Not worried about football just the opening of dove season in September. Don't want to burn all my kitchen points on dove hunting then have Jen X me out of the Sept. ride. Going in October will allow me to earn some more points toward the ride. But what the heck, if the masses want September who am I to argue. It's all good. Might be a little cooler in October though... just a thought. [thumbsup]
Swanny, I like Russellville. Nice and centrally located. The new place you speak of, does it have a bar? Very important. [beer]
Gaston's has a restuarant that serves wine so I assume they have other drinks as well.
Whatever works for most people is fine with me. We can go on a home game football weekend but I am not sure what it will do to the amount of traffic on the roads up there.

Traffic will be fine, as long as you stay out of Fayetteville. 540 can get a little hectic, but it is nothing like here. I would describe it more like I-20 on a Saturday

I just realized that Oct. 11th is only two weeks before the fall Hill Country trip. Don't want to interfere with that. How about we pick a date sometime between Sept. 13th and Oct 4th and go for it. I should be good any of those weekends if I put in my vacation notice soon.

The place was in the middle of a make over this last April when we were there. They should be finished by now. It had no effect on our stay and more importantly on the bar!
Okay. Did the routes up for the trip. Got some new roads to hit on the way up the first day mixed in with the regular fun ones as well. The 2nd day has some new roads and a lot of the same roads but in reverse. We will make a counter clockwise loop in northern AR instead of the usual clockwise loop. The third day will pretty much be the same roads we have hit before but we will hit AR 28 which we usually hit the first day so we will do it in reverse.
Here is the mileage by day:
Day 1: 355 Miles
Day 2: 355 Miles
Day 3. 341 Miles
Should be a lot of fun and a little over 1000 miles today from Allen Outlet Mall to AR and back.
Want to plan on meeting up at 7:30 at Allen Outlet Mall which is located at US75 and Stacy Rd?
I will reserve hotel rooms once we get closer to the date since the roster usually has some last minute additions and withdrawals.

This Arkansas trip can't happen soon enough. Great roads with friends and hopefully cooler temps. I can't stand the hot (make that super hot) weather! What's worse is we are leaving next Sunday for a week in the mountains of NE New Mexico at 7000 ft. with 55 degree lows at night AND twisty mountain roads! What's wrong with that you ask? NO BIKE! My old Suburban just doesn't handle like a superbike in the twisties no matter what I do. >:( It's been years but I have got to go back up there with a bike some day... but that would mean minus the family. I guess WB/USMC/DFB won't be making it. That breaks my heart. We were going to room together. Good think that my neighbor Mike said that he thinks he is going to make the trip! My 1st AR trip was me, Mike, and the long lost DucTape. That trip was a blast and that was when I discovered the great roads of northern AR.

Now that's out of the way I can just sit back and enjoy the Sept. run. Had to get those roads mentally exorcised to make a clean slate of it. [thumbsup] Hope you can make it!

A little slab but much less than the run to the Hill Country Ridefest. Anyone who isn't doing the HC run really should consider joining us. Ride Master Swanny always puts together some great roads and the Russellville Holiday Inn is a good home base... I'm sure it has nothing to do with it having the only bar in town! We meet up on Saturday morning (8:00ish??) at the outlet mall in Allen (north of Plano) which is right off Hwy75/Central. Ride up that day and end up in Russellville, AR late afternoon. Hang out, hit the bar for a beer, have dinner, bs, sleep and hit the road Sunday after breakfast for a Tour of Northern Arkansas Swanny style. Check with him about the route, I think he mentioned it earlier in the thread but I'm too lazy to look. Gotta be a 350-400 mile ride. Hit the Holiday Inn after the ride, repeat the previous evening's entertainment and head home after breakfast on Monday, same way home as Saturday on the way up... except without the enraged Park Rangers on the Scenic Drive in OK and AR! By the way the Scenic Drive is freaking awesome! My personal raceway for over 25 years! It's technically a "park road" for 52 miles with no intersecting roads, only scenic turnouts. The trick is Park Rangers/State Police patrol the road only on Friday through Sunday. Their prime time ticket opportunity. They don't even bother patrolling Monday through Thursday evening. Was told that by a Leflore Co. Sheriff's Officer. Good enough for me. Doesn't make up for the bullshit $251 ticket we got in April. Wankers!! >:( Tommy, I'm sure you are familiar with this bs being from the Deal's Gap area. No where near the oppressive police presence as that but apparently it's getting there. After a quarter century of riding up there that was my first taste of major cop voodoo. Anyway, it's worth it. Easy on Saturday on the way up but you could bust balls on Monday if you want to. We had a very nice motivated cruise coming back on Monday this last April. Nothing crazy, just a real nice, easy high speed cruise on the Scenic Drive. Really sweet. Think about it. Check with Swanny on the route stuff but I guarantee it will be awesome! [thumbsup]

Can't forget the extended swing arm. I was thinking that I would put a 330 rear tire on as well. The NOS is a good idea, but I read somewhere that a guy is building turbo kits for the 1098. That is the route I am leaning towards. A NOS bottle is just too finite.
Actually, I just want a new windscreen and a new exhaust. And I am also putting on new bar ends. Never listen to anyone when they recommend a throttle meister for a 1098. It sounded like a great idea for long interstate miles, but is a very dangerous device. I kept accidentally activating it yesterday. Was not good.

I have 4 rooms reserved at the Holiday Inn in Russellville. If we need to add more rooms I can.
I have some good news and some bad news....Good news is that I got a promotion at work which is nice after a tough year of learning the new job I got this year....Bad news is that it might keep me from making the trip. I have a lot more meetings and projects now so depending on how the projects are going I might or might not be able to go.
Let's try to get a lunch going one day in the next week or two and I will print off maps and bring them incase I cannot go.

I am guessing we leave Sept 20 a Saturday? and come back Monday the 22nd?
JUst in case you can't make it, will someone else take over as lead? This would be my first trip to Arkansas so I would be clueless. Then again that seems to be most of the time anyway.

Hmmm bike hit 4k after the ride on Sunday not sure if Ill be able to make this one or not. Between this trip and HC that would be alot more miles in a short period of time. Then again, maybe Ill have a monster that I can take to HC [thumbsup]. I know 4k isnt alot but I like the idea of keeping the mileage low... you know for trade in purposes in '09 ;D

I'm a slight maybe for this, are you planning on riding or trailering?(kev) I would have to be home Sunday night, but could ride Sunday day! How many miles is it from Dallas? If we ride all day Sunday, maybe we we could trade a spot on your hotel room floor (Saturday night) for a trailer ride back to your casa........(Sunday night)

Hey Patrick. There should be rooms available. I have 4 of them so that is 1 for Fastwin and 3 other to share. Now just need to find out for sure who all is going (I am in this group since I won't know until the 1st part of next week) and make sure I don't need to add more rooms.
As others have said, Sunday is the day to ride.
Let's plan on getting together for lunch one day next week so I can get route maps out to a couple of folks incase I cannot make it.

I am 100% in. My toughest decision is which backpack to carry.
A quick warning about my bike. The fuel mileage is horrendous. My fuel light comes on at 85 to 90 miles.

No biggie Zack. That's a nice mileage break up anyway. I like to get off and stretch every 75-100 miles and gassing up is always a good idea out in the country. Never know when the Mom and Pop gas station down the road might be closed.

If you trailer up then you need to make sure that you are there for the Sunday loop. If you keep the long stops to a minimum on Sunday and leave to ride early Sunday morning then you can probably make it back to the hotel by 5 PM or so. You can then load up and haul butt back to Dallas via I-40 and US75.
Probably a waste of time to trailer up on Saturday, ride a couple of hours Sunday morning, then trailer back home.

For the record, I'm taking the Millenium Buzzard (aka Turkey Killer, aka Battlestar Galactica... OK, the Busa!) and since she is kinda a pack mule I will be taking the "road tool box". That means Cycle Pump (so we have a mini air compressor), plug kit (but someone else please bring another, Scott's back tire did not like my plugs but did like Alan's), CO2 cartridges and valve stem attachment (Cycle Pump back up), valve stem tool, good assortment of metric combination wrenches, allen wrenches and allen sockets, 3/8" ratchet and breaker bar, good assortment of metric sockets (ending around 19mm), big ass Crescent for axle nuts, flat & phillips screwdrivers, plenty of zip tie wraps, duct tape, needle nose, small Channel Lock and small vise grip pliers and in honor of Rich some JB Weld, etc.
No tire irons because this damn time we'll be having no tire troubles. You hear me? >:( If there is something really weird and specific to your sled then bring it. Stuff like special big ass Ducati SSSA axle nut sockets, things like that... gee, try finding that in Podunk AR?? Like I said, if it's something you think your bike might need then bring it. I've got all the other run of the mill stuff covered. [thumbsup]
