Title: I just tried to eat a Whopper.
Post by: Skybarney on February 01, 2014, 09:44:26 PM
And I could not get through it   It was the single worst ting I have tired to eat in ten years.  Funny thing is there was a time long long ago that I loved them.  Now they just taste like crap.

Funny what we get used to.  ???

Pretty much TOSAT fodder.

Yes,  NOGAS.

;)

Side note - the burgers are flame broiled, but the smoke flavor comes from a liquid concentrate concoction at the pattie processing plant.

Yeah DP, I was a fan of the NOGAS thread and for some reason you can't stand it when a person replies to someone else's NOGAS topic. Like you're not supposed to or something.
Some of us don't care to post in the TOSAT thread as it feels like a private coffee klatch.  [coffee]
So maybe we could try it agin without your insistence that nobody replies to anyone's post. What difference does it make?

If I post in something it's ok for anyone to as I'm like the goof who just wanders in places.  [laugh]

As for fast food burgers, most of the big company ones are terrible.
Ran across one of these locally http://waybackburgers.com/ (http://waybackburgers.com/) and thought it was really good

TOSAT? (that took a minute to figure out)   I have only been on this forum for under a year but I have to say that when I read the TOSAT forum it does seem like a "we know each other pretty well and say good morning over coffee to each other thread.  Due to what I have read on there it would have seemed out of place.

Feel free to move it as it was a pretty non moto topic.   :)

Back to fast food burgers. For the record my plan is to go down in history as the last human on the planet that has never eaten at a McDonalds. :) Nope, never been inside one in my 59+ years. Nothing against MickeyDs but I'm on a roll now. Plan to have it etched on my grave stone along with a few other good ones.

I have had my share of Burger King, Jack in the Box (high school munchies...), What-a-Burgers and the typical sandwich stuff... Subway, Schlotzsky's (regional fare), Quizno's (soon to be extinct), etc. On the occasion when I do eat at those places I try real hard to not think about what it is I am eating. Wasn't raised on fast food but like others sometimes the convenience just outweighs the mystery foods. Does that make me a bad person? [laugh] [drool] [bacon]

Hmmm... it's lunch time right now. ;)

Stop in and spend some time and get to know people better.

That thread has been a lot of things over a long time...

fresh blood is always good.

...and don't get all butt hurt if every word you say isn't responded to.

It's the way it is. ;D

wow - that is truly an impressive achievment!!  [clap] [clap] [bow_down]

I'm in awe  [clap].

I have never eaten anything from Burger King.

...mainly coz that chain of junkfood is known as Hungry Jack's in these parts.

Whoever thought of making a breakfast sandwich with syrup infused pancakes instead of an english muffin deserves every bit of the gobs of money McDonald's is throwing their way.

I don't understand the prejudice against Burger King. They make the best commercial burger on the planet! The exquisite balance of meat/bun/veg is unsurpassed in the annals of burgerness! It must be eaten slowly to savour the nuances of the subtle seasonings.

In and Out has odd tasting meat.  I miss Fat burger, although my arteries are thanking me for moving far away from one.  We have a great place up here called The Habit.  They make awesome little burgers that still taste like burgers.

We have The Habit here too. Ours is across the street from an In N Out and within a block of a Five Guys. All three are pretty good.

As far as the "big 4" fast food places, my favorite for burgers is by far Hardee's (Carl's Jr. for you west coast-ers).

Outside of the established fast food chains, it a tough call between Five Guys and BurgerFi.  Both are incredibly good.

I'd rather have the Wendy's Baconator double  [bacon]

On the flip side of things, I just ate at Long John Silvers for the first time in many years and it was delicious.

But..

I will reserve full judgement until tomorrow or possibly later tonight once it really hits

i lived off of free McDs for a while (one opened up in our "hood" and all my friends worked there)    i'm surprised i'm not dead after eventually waking up and finding real food.

Just had an amazing Chinese lunch.  It had soup, egg roll, chow mien and orange chicken for a grand total of $6.95.  I could not even finish it.  Best of all they do it with no MSG and excellent ingredients and the total wait time was only about ten minutes.

Pretty sure all the combo meals at the fast food joints are five to seven dollars, maybe more if you actually want to be full.

Healthy Chinese food for cheap or Whopper.......  No choice IMO.

Ok. I'll join the conversation.

I haven't had a whopper in like 20 years. I would eat it now if I had no choice.

But!  Back in college,  there was (and may still be there) a burger king on Hempstead turnpike in East Meadow that would serve two whoppers for one dollar after 2a.m.  I would visit that burger king regularly after 2a.m.

If I ate two whoppers after 2a.m. now, it probably would take me a week to recover.    [puke]

We also have a ton of local joints that serve great burgers.  The Cherry Cricket is tops.  Hands down.  http://cherrycricket.com/ (http://cherrycricket.com/)
+1 on your take on Five Guys.  Meh.

In-N-Out is my #1, although I concede it is not the best burger, just my favorite (double double, animal style 8) ).

Shake Shack (NYC) and Umami (LA) are near the top of my list.

And I always liked Wendy's burgers, whenever I have to do fast food.

Dammit, now I'm hungry...

Same here, best place in town for a burger is a bar and grill, they've got at least 20 variations. Reasonably priced too. Nothing else is even close.  [drool]

Unami now has a restaurant in the West Village, 6th Ave. & 10 St.  I haven't tried it yet, long lines.

Don't.  Hatch Burger at both LA locals was maybe the best burger I've ever had.  Tried it at W Vill location few weeks ago and was very disappointed.

I recommend: late night burger at Maialino (Gramercy Park Hotel).  Only served after 10:30p and they close at midnight, so small window.  But damn, i't sgood!

Chipotle sure isn't my first choice, but it ain't bad.  Mostly organic/sustainable ingredients and freshly made.  Plus they have  [drink]

If you see a Pret A Mange give it a try.  They also have  [drink] and [wine]

yea, we can actually have one drink on lunch break but i don't since i driver around all day (cable guy)  and if you get into an accident its straight to the drug testing place..   so i don't take the chance.. i'll check out that pret spot today maybe.. i'll search one on the map, about to take my lunch break soon (night shift)

Here in Puddletown we have a place called Killer Burger. They feed veterans free on Veterans Day, which is how I got around to trying them. Small outfit, fabulous burger. The one that people seem drawn to is the peanut butter pickle burger.

True that it may not be the place for a hungry man on a tight budget.

I reheated my Chinese style spare ribs tonight. They were yummy with some stir fried red rice noodles with bok choi snow peas and carrot.

Anyone remember how much better McD's fries used to be before they switched to vegetable oil in the fryer?

They would remain delicious  even after they got cold.

Side note - the burgers are flame broiled, but the smoke flavor comes from a liquid concentrate concoction at the pattie processing plant.

[puke]

Really? I didn't know that... That smoke flavor was the reason I like Burger King... I'll stick with Carl's from now on.

I'm guessing it's just liquid smoke. Common stuff.
