Title: DIMBY 2014
Post by: ducpainter on February 28, 2014, 01:36:17 PM
It's time to start making your plans. This will be the seventh year, and the eighth event. As always everyone is welcome. If you don't know where we are and want to come pm me and I'll give you the addy.

The dates are...July 25 through July 27...the snow might even be gone by then.

It will be our 4th wedding anniversary, and we'll be in the new house. There will be an open house on Saturday so there could very well be a lot of people about.

There will be some flop space inside for those that don't tent, but it is more limited because...no more bunkhouse.

howie, your spot is always reserved if you're planning on making the trip.

Add your name to the list if you're going to make it.

1) Nate, T, and Z.

You are still gonna be shoveling snow.  [cheeky]  I might pop in on the West Coast meetup as it is only 70 or so miles from home.

Would you believe some people actually work weekends and I don't mean on their second house.  ;)

Really though, I'm 99% in but just need to make sure I can take the adjacent days since I plan to ride up and NH is a bit of a hike for me.

I'd like to join, but currently the distance is intimidating me.  Just did a weekend of 3-4 hr rides and that proved to be my limit.  NYC to DIMBY is ~5 straight, 6 with breaks.  I don't own a car so trailer-ing isn't an option.

Ok Howie, I know you have something to say because I'm half your age and you could probably do 1000 miles straight if you didn't have to stop for pesky gas.  Lay it on me...  ;D

Do the Catskill DESMO ride, 5 hours will seem like nothing.  And do the Catskill ride, it is fantastic.  If the day is too long you can bail at lunch.   If you go up with me you can lead and we can take unlimited breaks, no rush.

Looking at the trip.  Probably about 16 hours one way.  I'm thinking this is a two day trip on a bike each way.  If I do make this, I'll be coming from Western NC.  Any suggestions for where to make a stop for the night or how to break up such a long trip?  I'm trying to decide if I can make it or not still.

Just so peeps know...

the open house part of DIMBY won't happen this year. I'm just not close enough.

I hope to have it ready enough to have a bathroom...or at least toilet facilities.

Otherwise I'll have to get a chemie...the septic for the old house is acting up.

If DP promised to give a full-body massage to the attendee that rode the farthest to get there, would that help motivate you?  ;D

video all uploaded, it will take awhile to sift through it all

I like the camera position, on NY Rt 30 it's fun to watch the whole world tilt 45 degrees in the corners

How many DMFers does it take to solve an electrical problem?

Just a  [beer] to Herm!

I followed your advice to not rinse the dishes before putting them in the dish washer.  It works [thumbsup]

It was the least I could do to repay you for the loan of the battery [Dolph]

I wish I could take the credit, but it was the old appliance repair man with the rusted out 1970's panel van who explained it to me

Glad it worked for you too[thumbsup]

the discussion was about new dishwashers and today's dishwasher detergents. The education from the old repair guy was NOT to rinse stuff too much, as today's detergents need some crap in their for the enzymes to do their thing.....and that most people put too much soap in, which does not make things cleaner (think too much soap, and not enough water shaken up in an enclosed jar.)

Solution 1a- scrape, but don't rinse
Solution 1b- use the pre-packaged soap/rinse tablets

[thumbsup]

In don't scrape anything and use 1/2-2/3 liquid soap.

Seems to work :D
