What could you possibly think you'd gain from lying. Although there have been books written about it. (Stolen Valor) is one. I've never been able to wrap my head around it. Oh well, make the beast with two backs off.
Stolen valor? Is that when the Coast Guard pretends they're real military?
I know of a certain someone who told a similar story about sniper fire, but nobody gave two shits about that story. I'm guess'n Brian thought the same would happen to him.
Made the news here.
some people have no morals....ok most.

The weather is going to be too hot followed by periods of too cold with some transitional overly humid times in between.
If a nice day does happen it'll be ruined by tourists.
Back to you, Bob.

I think it's funny, the media has been sensationalizing their reports for, well, ever and people care about this.

He's just a talking head on the TV news, dunno why everyone is getting all bent out of shape.
It's not like he's a journalist.

At 1:33.
"
We figure out how to land"
Someone sitting in the back of a Chinook shitting their diapers is not part of the emergency landing procedures.
The PIC was not
"figuring out how to land" - He
LANDED safely.
So right there he is putting himself at the level of those that made sure everyone made it home alive.
Then, when the truth comes out that he wasn't even on that aircraft, but an hour behind.
He stole a real hero's story and made it his own for personal gain.
Add this to the trend...
But he/they are built up to be representatives of unbiased truth. I know that the image is 180 degrees from reality, but I believe most people truly believe them to be vessels of " above and beyond " truth.
He should have blamed it on alcohol so as to garner sympathy for his misremembering.

I find it interesting how some people's lies are overlooked, sometimes vigorously, while others are crucified for it.

Define 'some'

Define 'some'
I don't know if there's a definition for "some", although people that the public tend to idolize often get a pass.
The current, and vaguely related due to the topic, example is Chris Kyle. Many people now hate Ventura, when all that he did is defend his name. Kyle is the one that the evidence strongly suggests lied. He gets a pass though.
That's not to single out Kyle, or diminish his amazing accomplishments and valor, it's just a recent example. It has happened before, and will happen again. I just find it interesting.
It's also not an approval for Brian Williams' lie. He deserves whatever comes his way.
Cuz we humans is flawed, and we pick and choose life's winners and losers based on flawed input. We also like underdogs. Kyle puts his life on the line for little more than minimum wage, vs Williams who is paid ten million a year for reading a teleprompter....Kyle wins. And one could make the case that Kyles woppers may be associated with PTSD, what's Williams excuse? As for me...I have a tendency to believe everyone until they are found out to be a lier, then I tune them out.
Agreed. I suspect 4 tours and the associated PTSD is a big reason as well regarding Kyle. Ventura was a fellow soldier though...why automatically vilify him? Kyle's family has surely made a hell of a lot more than minimum wage now as well.
What's the excuse for Ray Lewis? Not the exact same, but a beloved sports figure that surely lied about a less than stellar incident. The public's forgiveness isn't always limited to war heros.
Again...no excuse for Williams.

There was a lot of evidence that Kyle didn't lie. A winning lawsuit doesn't always mean someone is guilty or innocent. It can mean a lawyer was better then the other lawyer. Look at OJ.
People hate Ventura because he was rich and sued a war hero and then they really hated him when he continued the suit after Kyle's death, suing a widow.
What...
OJ was guilty? :o :o :o

I'm a pretty forgiving guy. Did Brian Williams gain from his lies? Depends who you ask, but I presume not that much. Has he lost because of it? Hell yes.

Well, he won one of the toughest charges to prove in the court system. Kyle also
admitted that some of the story was exaggerated. Those two things lead me to believe Ventura was telling the truth. He admits to being there, and to criticizing the Iraq war (which he has always done), just says there wasn't ever a fight, and he never said bad things about the SEALs.
He sued a war hero that he claims said slanderous things about him, which did cause him to lose some work (tv deal). Sounds like you're blaming the victim. Why would he drop the case when Kyle was killed if he was telling the truth? Kyle's family has made plenty of money regardless of the lawsuit.
I don't really care about Ventura, I just don't understand the hatred towards him. In his shoes, most would do the exact same thing.
