But he/they are built up to be representatives of unbiased truth. I know that the image is 180 degrees from reality, but I believe most people truly believe them to be vessels of " above and beyond " truth.

He should have blamed it on alcohol  so as to garner sympathy for his misremembering.
Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

So I went solo.  -Me

It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

I find it interesting how some people's lies are overlooked, sometimes vigorously, while others are crucified for it.

Define 'some'

Define 'some'

I don't know if there's a definition for "some", although people that the public tend to idolize often get a pass.

The current, and vaguely related due to the topic, example is Chris Kyle. Many people now hate Ventura, when all that he did is defend his name. Kyle is the one that the evidence strongly suggests lied. He gets a pass though.

That's not to single out Kyle, or diminish his amazing accomplishments and valor, it's just a recent example. It has happened before, and will happen again. I just find it interesting.

It's also not an approval for Brian Williams' lie. He deserves whatever comes his way.

Grampa

Cuz we humans is flawed, and we pick and choose life's winners and losers based on flawed input. We also like underdogs. Kyle puts his life on the line for little more than minimum wage, vs Williams who is paid ten million a year for reading a teleprompter....Kyle wins. And one could make the case that Kyles woppers may be associated with PTSD, what's Williams excuse?  As for me...I have a tendency to believe everyone until they are found out to be a lier, then I tune them out.

Triple J

Agreed. I suspect 4 tours and the associated PTSD is a big reason as well regarding Kyle. Ventura was a fellow soldier though...why automatically vilify him? Kyle's family has surely made a hell of a lot more than minimum wage now as well.

What's the excuse for Ray Lewis? Not the exact same, but a beloved sports figure that surely lied about a less than stellar incident. The public's forgiveness isn't always limited to war heros.

Again...no excuse for Williams.

There was a lot of evidence that Kyle didn't lie. A winning lawsuit doesn't always mean someone is guilty or innocent. It can mean a lawyer was better then the other lawyer. Look at OJ.

People hate Ventura because he was rich and sued a war hero and then they really hated him when he continued the suit after Kyle's death, suing a widow.
