I say it again, 2016 is NOT a celebrity year

I always liked that cat. IIRC he was self taught on reading and writing music (?). He had mad guitar skills. He steps in here at 3:23.

Shit, I forgot how off the fashion was and how big the hair was in the 80s. A dark time indeed. [laugh]
As you might imagine, he was a pretty big deal here in MN.
I live about an hour's drive from his home/studio, and he would frequently (and randomly) throw fan parties at his place. If you got wind of it and got in you were guaranteed several hours of superb entertainment, often running until dawn. The last of these was held the night of April 16. I regret not being able to attend one of these, I would always find out about them too late.
The guy was a huge proponent of local young musicians, and was known for showing up secretly at local venues and offering studio time and guidance to help folks reach the next level. How cool is that?
Last night in Minneapolis there was a massive vigil in the streets outside First Avenue, where Purple Rain was filmed, with a party inside running from 11:00 PM and running all night. Probably still going on as I type this. Fitting, since he was known for going onstage late and playing for hours and hours.
And many major bridges and structures in the Twin Cities were bathed in purple lights all night in tribute.
Dancing and partying all night long to celebrate his passing.
Now
THAT was a life well lived.
And a hearty +1 to this quote:

A very multi faceted talent, but his guitar skills stood out for me. He didn't show them off enough I reckon.

I've thought for years that he was Hendrix's equal. A phenom for sure.

He was heavily influenced by Jimi. I heard him say that on several occasions.

One of my favorite Prince tunes, out of the norm for sure. Appropriate, since it will probably snow tonight (lightly) here in MN.
