Morimoto Projector Retrofit Project inspired by He-Man

Hi,

So I ordered this 35W projector kit for my M750, however they didn't come with a HID ballast.  The kit was equipped with 6000K bulb.

I got a 35W HID ballast laying around (came with the 8000K bulb).  The ballast fits with the projector kit.  Then I tried to hook it up onto the bike and test out the operation. One note is that this ballast came with the single HID light kit (no Hi/Lo)....could this be a problem???

However...I see no light  [bang] ...they both 35W...IDK what's going on.  I turn the switch from Hi/Lo beam and all I heard was the relay "click-click" sound.  So my thoughts are:
(1) the wiring must be right;   [thumbsup]
(2) something wrong with the ballast   [thumbsdown]
(3) something else wrong with the original wiring of the bike? (this thought is because the shop told me that my high beam isn't working properly)

Any thoughts, anyone?  [bow_down]

Thanks!

bad ballast probably.

hi lo isnt a function of the ballast, rather its a little shield that flips up and down.

Yeah I think so too...I just order the Morimoto Sportbike Stage III kit.  I would like the H1 but don't know how to build a wiring harness so I just made my life a bit easier by getting the harness with it.

This ^

It could also be a magnetic thing that moves the bulb, but either way it's on a different 'circuit' than the bulb itself.
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

The work is ALMOST done...got the headlight bucket fitted and mounted, and wires placements are done.

I ran into some problems at first.  I had to fabricate an extension for my stock bracket (about 2" further forward).  This is because the bulb connector from the kit won't work with the stock bracket mount.  When the bulb-ballast connected to the bulb, it is too long.  Here is a pic of what I'm talking about....sorry I didn't connect the ballast.  You can see the extended brackets

Here are some more pics of how I chose to mount the relay and ballast....I will have a fairing and it will cover (some what) from water....

I will need to get some clear lexan for the cover and I think I will be done with this project....Moving on to Carbs/pod filters and tires and chain and sprockets....the list keep going, on and on.....  [bang]

make use of the space your airbox was taking to mount those ballasts. the extensions/electronics do not do the build justice.

Yeah I saw some people put the ballast in the airbox...but my airport is going soon...changing to pods when I take my carbs out for cleaning.

I will post some finished pics soon....

you can still fab up some tabs under the tank. either using p clamps around the frame or by extending the wires and mounting it close to the battery. pop up the tank and start brainstorming, its probably less effort than what you have already done and the results would be well worth it.

also not really sure how good of an idea it would be to have the ballasts that exposed to the elements.

shouldnt be an issue if its sealed properly. mines gotten soaked more times than i can count

I came up with this idea...add a fairing haha....just finished it today actually...Here are a few pics

i know...I know the fairing is arkward but hey it's my Monster...and I like it that way :) (no offense intended)

I'm too lazy right now to make the dom lens cover....so I just use flat lexan for now...it looks very odd I know.

Well that's it! Now to clean the carbs and jet...pods will arrive Monday.

That front fairing actually doesn't look too bad considering it helps mask the extended headlight.

Does anyone know if the morimoto retrofit will fit into the dual 4" lenses? I'm thinking of just going double instead of 1 for overkill lighting at night.
