Then I'll recommend the following reading KTM LC4 (690) Thread and New KTM 690 Thread Index on ADVRider. Enjoy! [evil]
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

Maintenance is pretty relaxed on the 690, not to worry there. I know on the duke 690 (same engine) the owner's manual says oil changes every 5k km, valves every 10k km.  I think the enduro will say 600 miles for oil changes, but that's to account for folks who use them for 100% hard off road, for casual dual sport and street riding I'd think something closer to the duke schedule would make more sense.

That's pretty much what my lc8 calls for. I just do an oil change in the spring. I never even looked at valves until I hit 8500 (bought the bike with 500 on it)  they were all good. I wont think about them again till 20k.

you are missing the joke...you are rather anal retentive about making sure your bike is almost clean enough to eat off of at times(or so it seems by how your bike looks when people see it), so the idea of you having a "dirt" bike that is actually dirty perplexes those that know you and your Monster...

I had a feeling that's where he was going...  :P It's all by degrees. I just don't want my brake calipers falling off mid ride.
Each bike has it's character. The monsters is clean - it's how it came it me and how I've kept it. Get me a dirty girl... and well  [evil]

So besides the wheels and front brakes - anyone know what the differences are between the SMC and Enduro models are? Mostly the same as far as i can tell, with the Enduro sporting bigger wheels and a less agressive front brake, 300mm and axial caliper vs the 320mm and radial caliper & 17" wheels of the SMC.

Any thoughts on the 2010s?

Probably different suspension valving.

As far as 2010's anything from ktm from like 2007 and newer is pretty reliable and shit your pants fun.

KBB says retail of ~$4200 and trade in of $2900. Averaged out that's 3550

Hmm a local 09 530 EXC with a bunch of farkles. $5500
