GUN STUFF

1911's are pretty easy to work on and since they have been around for a century, there is no end of good information on doing it.  One real good basic book on the topic is "Hallock's .45 Auto Handbook".  Its all pretty straightforward and easy to understand and it takes you through all the basic things you can do and some of the more complex ones also.

I actually met Ken Hallock when he was doing a gunshow up here while doing some geneological (sp) research while in the area, so I got an autographed copy.  Its pretty dogeared and fingerprinted up now but I have used the book a lot, especially when I was learning how to make 1911's run.
This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

Thanks for the book recommendation! I'll be looking for that one straight away.

Warren's right. Hallock's book is a great place to start. [thumbsup] No shortage of info, parts or accessories for those old war horses.

I worked a booth for a shooting academy years ago at a gun show. The gentleman in the booth next to us was a 1911 collector/trader. It was a slow show and he was a very nice and friendly guy. We talked 1911s all day... or rather I listened to him talk. He had forgotten more than I will ever know. He was into collectable WWII models. If fact he had served in WWII so he damn sure knew what he was talking about. Nothing like first hand knowledge I suppose.

We hit it off and at the end of the show he made me a great deal on one I had been eyeing. It was nothing off the charts special or valuable. Just good basic era correct 1911. He told me that it had been issued to the Navy but that's all I remember. Haven't shot it in a while but I just love holding it and looking at it... kind of like sitting in your garage and staring at your Duc! ;) I'm sure it has some good stories to tell. [thumbsup] It has a great hard earned patina to it's finish. I guess it's a little like me. ;D

And yes, it shoots just fine. Just writing this makes me want to bust it out and run a couple of magazines through it. Proper 7 rounders... no Wilson 8 rounders. [laugh]

I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

Yeah man! JMB intended for 7, that's how I like to shoot it. I'd like to pick up his other masterpiece (the Hi-Power), but that'll be a ways in the future.

I just realized I haven't pulled a trigger in 8 months :'(

For shame, Kevin. Find the nearest Super Soaker and go to town!

Don't start me on Hi-Powers. I've had a mad on for Belgium Hi-Powers for years. My wife asks me how many guns I have and I just mumble and leave the room. [laugh] Hi, my name is fastwin and I am a gun-a-holic".

I had Wayne Novak build me up three Belgium Hi-Powers long ago. They used to be the FBI Hostage Rescue team sidearm. The first one took 6 months, the second was over a year and the last one took over a year and a half! Still wouldn't trade any of them for anything. PM me when you want a P-35. ;)

What he said. You are wasting too much time at the shop. Now what would be cool would be to ride and shoot at the same time! Kind of a Cowboy Action Shoot but on scooters. Of course all the lefties would have an advantage. ;D That way you could get in some riding time and range time.  [Dolph] [popcorn] [bacon]

I dug out my old WWII 1911A1 this afternoon and it is a Colt manufactured pistol. It has United States Property stamped on the right hand of the receiver and in front of that is stamped 1911A1 US Army. I distinctly remembering him tell me that he had researched the serial number and traced it to a 1911 issued to the Navy. Are there any historical 1911 buffs out there that know if all 1911A1s were stamped US Army whether they went to another branch or not?

I love the look on the fat guy's face after he shot it.
And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

It doesn't look fun to shoot.

Id still give it a whirl though :)

I've seen safari/big game gun vids like that. My older brother did an African safari hunt a few years ago and had a CZ "howitzer" caliber rifle along with normal big game rifles. I never shot them nor did I ever want to. Passed on a few chances at .50BMG sniper rifles too in the past. I ain't dumb! [thumbsup] [beer]

Just picked up a new Kimber Eclipse Custom II 1911.   What a fun gun!!!  It is tack accurate!

Any other 1911 lovers out here?
