It's a damn shame that a small diesel hasn't made its way into a F-150 or a Tacoma (like the Hilux) yet.

You are looking at the same trucks I want. I've decided in the F-150 with 4WD. Not sure on extended cab or double cab...maybe a King Ranch if I get lucky ;D

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Couple things...

First, I've had an extended cab Tacoma for about 4 years now and have absolutely zero complaints about it.

The only thing I've done to it is buy a battery, change the oil, and put gas in it.  And it has 130K on the clock.

Second, a big +1 on the only get 4wd comment from 'tizzy.

My work truck's a rear wheel drive dually and it gets stuck in an eighth of an inch of mud if it doesn't have any weight on the back of it.

I've got a 2002 Nissan Frontier xeV6 "Desert Runner" with the King Cab.

I've beat the Hell out of it for 205,400+ miles...

Sometimes I remember to change the oil... usually don't.   :-\

Only thing that broke was the original timing belt at 196,000 miles... oops.

I've driven it sideways and over jumps in the desert, hauled 3 motos in it, and one time, dragged a stalled 18,000lb school bus out of an intersection...    :o

It's still on the original clutch.

I'd get a newer model one in a heartbeat if/when this one decides to finally shit the bed.  [thumbsup]

Just my $0.02.   YMMV

Good luck in your search!  [beer]

I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it

Interesting.

I've always thought the Titans looked like nice trucks, but I've never heard anything about them--positive or negative...

same with the frontiers. Sounds like yours is good. I do know people love Xterras, and I think they are basically the same?

A couple things.

Used Tacomas are like gold on the used market.  They don't stick around very long and sellers usually get what they are asking for them.

Toyota started using the SAE J2807 Towing standard for the 2010MY.  All other manufacturers (to my knowledge) are not adopting that standard until it is required for the 2013MY.  The SAE standard actually has real world testing parameters, like driving up a long grade at a set speed, holding a load on a set grade for a set period of time, etc.

I'm currently driving a '12MY Tacoma 4X4 Double Cab as a demo.  It will go up for sale in the April/May timeframe and will probably have 5-7K on the odo at that time.  PM me if you want more details.

Once the lease is up on my A3 I think I'm going to buy a Tacoma.  The 2012 has some nice technology additions but the interiors were designed by Ikea.  Hopefully they're less spartan in about 32 months.

Used?  All your choices are good.  Condition is the most important criteria.  Lethe's idea is also worth serious consideration, a good car and a trailer.

2001 Nissan Frontier crew and have had basically the same experience.  148k miles.  The only things that have failed was one O2 sensor and thermostat.  The front window regulator was replaced under warranty in 2002.  Still on the original clutch.

I did drive a rental Titan once and thought it was the biggest pile of crap I've ever driven in my life.  Interior was rattling around and the handling was all over the place, but then again it was a rental.

I forgot that you were a Toyota man.

So I've got to ask...

DUDE! What is up with Toyota interiors?????????????

I want to like them so bad, but I can't get over the insides. I'm not sure if it's because we own 2 german cars or what, but I expect more for 30-40k when I'm buying a car or truck. The only one we checked out that approved of was a loaded up Venza...but it was too mini-van like for my wife  [laugh]

I'm just curious if you have some insight? Because I'm seriously considering that new AE-FS-GT-86-63-Whatever. The new RWD coupe...but I'm going to be upset if it's made out of kleenex boxes on the inside.

Back to trucks---I heard the next titan might be available with a Cummins deisel. I think I read that on Autoblog. If so: AWESOME!

I sat in a production version of the FR-S last week.  It's extremely nice.  I think you'll approve.

Have you seen the new Camry's interior in person?

As for the Tacoma's interior...it is a truck after all.  I'm driving one now, and have driven at least 4 or 5 of the current version as demos since it launched in '04.  I don't see a problem with them.

I've also seen some of our upcoming product.  Get ready.  Toyota is coming back.  In a big way.

Sweet  [thumbsup]

I've been looking forward to that car for a long time.

I haven't looked at the Camry...not really my kind of car. We stopped looking after we bought the wifey a TDI Jetta wagon. She was going to wait for the new Passat, but got too ancie-pants. I wouldn't go for the sedan jetta, since VW cheaped out on their interiors too, but the wagon is still the old style.

Since I'm looking now, and the family hauler has been purchased, it's all sports cars and pickup trucks!!!!  [laugh]
