I rarely see S4s for sale -- not S4R or S4RS models, I mean the 916 engined, dss.

Were so few made?  Or are they just cherished?

But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Why would you want one anyway, they come with steel tanks.

3K on the odo?  Not really helping the stereotype.

But it looks hella clean (as it should) and would be fun to get an S4 again.

I've never owned a quattro or testa, and I like the S4's styling over the S4R, and I rather like the 916 engine.

I might grow weary of my older bikes though and that's the only fear...

S4 is a great all rounder , fast , comfy , good looks  and once the front forks are sorted they handle brilliantly ,, i think owners are like me they dont want to part with them once they are sorted

i don't buy anything on ebay with "rare" in the title.

while it may be somewhat true as far as the market for S4's, they are not rare bikes in the least.  plenty of people have them, they just aren't selling right now.

the foggy is genuinely rare (and he doesn't use that idiotic term) , but I've seen them around 7-8000 in good condition.

Maybe some truth to that..., for a while. They are smooth and swift. Only had a 4-valve for three years and sold it before I found that tree with my name on it.  ;) Picture following a row of six cars at 55 MPH for several miles and passing all six on a long straight with one downshift and reading 140 on the clock when you pull back into line...

You might miss the heartbeat of your 2-valve and the 4-valve is about half. Usually the center of gravity is higher too, depending on how sensitive you are to that.

Borrow one for the day some Sunday and see what you think. You might also find my 803 different than your 800 too.

I would have to agree I've never owned a duc before the s4 but you hit a sweet spot around 6 then your peripheral vision goes blurred and I'm not sure whether it's speed induced or vibration but on molls gap I think there's a tree or rock with my name on it and the thing is you still go back for more.
