i agree, that is the ugliest bike i have ever seen. I dont like anything about it. I would rather ride any jap bike out there, for some reason it looks like one of those pug nose dogs.  I dont see why anyone would spend good money on something like that, but i guess each his own.

Today at the park there was a 916 next to a white 848 and a red 696....and people where actually laughing at it
"Oh look, the Ducati family brought in an offspring"
"Looks more like one had an affair with someone in japan.."
"No, thats just a bike for kids, not a real Ducati"
"Really ? my kids ask for a boobycar, maybe I should get one of this"

 Funny, only on a ducati forum is where there are negative comments about the 696. I have had my red 696 for about a month and when I go ride I have a smile from ear to ear, and not just from riding a monster with termignonis' but from all of the only positive comments I receive.
Everywhere I go people are always telling me that I have a nice bike, Smiles, thumbs up, walking up to me and wanting to know more about my bike.
Hum, only here you are made to feel like sh*t for owning a Ducati.

just saw my first 696 in person. It was white.  It was on the freeway. Actually, it was broken down on the side of the 118 just west of Topanga. 

Just adding my bit of fuel to the fire.   

Feel bad for the guy stuck on the side of the freeway.  I actually got off at Rocky Peak  and backtracked to help out, but the freeway service patrol truck was already there.

thats because its the first ducati to not actually be a ducati. it is a copycat, and a poor one at that. but don't feel bad, at least you are not a patriots fan. imagine how i feel. no wonder why I am so depressed all the time

I think the 999 caused some similar reactions and in the end they gave in and Ducati redesigned it, right ?
I just want to prevent them to feel "OK" with that design catastrophe.
And heck no , I am really not jealous...
Its the same bike I have just looks a lot different.
Taste is different and beauty just a matter of definition.
I don't want anyone to feel sorry about their new bike, its a Ducati in the end.

Yes, there were people who loved the 999 too.  I just hope that Ducati hasn't shot themselves in the foot once again.  I read the Cycle World comparo between the 696 and the KTM 690.  The KTM won.  Wasn't it Cycle World that started whining for a Monster redesign?  Before the redesign, it wouldn't have meant much - the Monster was a classic in a class of its own - but now that it has been redesigned it is fair game for endless comparisons.

I'd venture to guess that something like a S60R would kill most any naked bike from 100 on. From 0-100 it'd be a whole 'nother ball game.
