Do you do the stripes last? I thought the stripes were taped out over the base colour with the tape removed once the top coat was on.

PS I'm not a painter.

PPS Bummer about the weather for you.
You greatly underestimate the amount of overconfidence I have.

It depends on whether the stripes are darker or lighter than the base.  If they're darker, they go on top.  Lighter, they go underneath.

I fitted my Rizoma levers (finally) and had my triple measured for the Rizoma clip-ons at Bikecraft, where I also booked the bike in this winter to have my custom Wizard Sleeve exhaust built. Should be pretty neato when it's done.

A quick run down on the process we went through.

Day One:

Rubbed the clear coat through to the orginal colour using 1200 grit wet and dry sand paper with really soapy water.

Rubbed the original stickers off using 600 Grit w+d

Sprayed 2 coats of filler/primer

Ghosting/light spray mist of black from a spray can

Rubbed off the ghosting of black with 1200 grit w+d with soapy water (this makes sure you don't rub too much primer off you are only really rubbing the black off)

Day two:

Sprayed a coat of colour.

Rubbed lightly with 1200 w+d and soapy water.

Sprayed a second coat of colour and left it overnight

Day 3

Marked out pin stripes and places "Ducati " tank stickers.

Masked everything up and sprayed the pin stripes on.

Started to peel the tape of and uncovered a problem on the very last 4cm strip of tape!!!!!!  [bang] [bang] [bang] [bang]

Day Four:

Rubbed back one side of the tank back to the primer

Blended colour on that damaged side and clear coated the lot.

Day Five:

Placed another sticker and marked out last little pin stripe.

Painted the pin stripe and clear coated the lot!  [thumbsup]

Now all we do is wait for the paint to cure and in a few weeks we will cut and polish

Sorry about the poor quality photo

Nice work Marty.
Something I don't think I'd ever try painting my own bike!
Looking good, like the style of what you're doing.  [thumbsup]

The colour, the stripes the stickers - instant flashback to  '74  and my long gone but never forgotten 750 sport. Congrats, you've done a great job.   [thumbsup]

Just trying out a recent purchase for size,  a Dp performance tank bag and cover. :-[
I know there ugly as phuk but will need it for a little over night adventure very soon. :-X
If i don't get booked or defected for something stupid in the mean time. [roll]

I find this bag and cover so handy, I love how the cover looks as opposed to my dented tank :( :(
just watch out for the vinyl over the clips. they can tear over time if your too rough. i bought mine 2nd hand and it had these tears. One visit to Irena at oz motorcycle leathers and all was sewn up for free.

I pulled out my bellypan from the cupboard. I need to cut out the holes for the vents and mounting points.
Where can I get the hardware for this from?

Very cool paint and sticker theme monstar_100 ...looks authentic old school, it seems your patience and hard work has paid off! [thumbsup] [beer]

Monstar_100 - mate that is looking fantastic!
Love the detail and thought gone in to it, like the silver colouring on the front fender for the mounting arm part of it.

Brilliant work, can't wait to see it in the flesh!

Marty, that looks really stunning.  Fantastic job!  I confess I didn't think the orange would look good when you showed us a pic of the paint still in the pot, but the overall effect on the bike is awesome.
