The 400 Corbon is a pretty neat cartridge.  As long as you stay with the lighter 10mm bullets, you can meet 10mm performance without beating up your gun.  I did a lot of ballistic testing and bullet expansion testing with bullets in that range and the Speer 155 Golddot really performed exceptionally well.  Great accuracy and tremendous terminal performance without coming apart.

Excellent! Thank you for this. i'm going to start rolling my own since commercial loads are so bloody expensive, and this is just the kind of stuff I need. anymore wisdom you can impart on this load?

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Over the years having a bent barrel has never been viewed as a positive occurrence. [bang]

Weren't you just trying to get the front sight assembly off and threw in the towel and handed it over to a 'smith? Did they bend it or are they saying you did during the cutting board destruction session? Not trying to be funny here, just wondering. Either way, I'm really sorry. :P

I might be able to see you a moderately used 16" KAC barrel.  Only catch is, you'll have to guy the BCG as well.

He asked me how big a hammer I used........16oz framing hammer.  I didn't realize how malleable a hammer forged barrel is.......wtf.

I'm smelling sketchiness........will report back after I meet with him tomorrow.  Grrrrrr.

Again, sorry for the bad news. IF you screwed it up and not them it's always hard to take. I feel your pain. I hate it when I screw stuff up... and it does happen. Often. [bang] [bang] Just ask my wife. ;) [laugh]

I am looking for a nice, custom, small shop 1911. I know several manufacturers make custom gun models, etc. Many that want to buy a "tricked out" 1911 buy a Wilson Combat gun. I've shot several. Just another modified 1911 gun.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with Predator Tactical? I am a contributing member of the Loan Survivor Foundation which is where I came across this small shop outfit.

Here is the gun I am looking at:

I am (and never have been) interested in full-size firearms. The element of concealment far supersedes that of "showing" you have a gun.

I've always felt that open carry is for those that need protection and need to flaunt a gun. <sight>

School me.  What makes these 1911's worth or cost so much? I'm a noob in the gun world. I realize the 1911 was a innovated game changer, but that was a hundred years ago. Again I'm not trying to start anything I just would like to know what draws people to this type of 1911 costing upwards of $3000.

I was wondering the same thing.  Seems a bit high to me too

I wouldn 't buy one either.  I have a pile of 1911's and I don't think I paid any more than $600 for any of them.  I have done some of my own work on them and had some custom work done but I would never drop that kind of money on one.  I started shooting IPSC when the 1911 was the only game in town.  I've wore out several barrels and have probably shot several hundred thousand rounds through them.

I tell new shooters that want to get involved with "combat" handguns to get a Glock.  It is probably one of the easiest, most reliable, functional, affordable handguns available.  Us old farts that have worked with 1911's for ever have the experience and muscle memory working for us.  The 1911 can be set up with an exquisite trigger pull that just isn't possible with most other modern semi-auto pistols.  Once they are set up correctly they are very solid and reliable.  I think the great triggers that can be set up on a 1911 is why it has such a great reputation as a target pistol.  Its legendary superior performance as a combat handgun is probably somewhat more legend than most people would like to admit.

I run 1911's because I have a vast amount of personal experience, confidence and muscle memory with them but I have taught myself to run a variety of other handguns just as competently.  The Glock 19 weighs about half of a full size 1911 and carries twice the ammo.  It doesn't pull your pants down on one side when you try to carry it either.

I love 1911's because I have a long history with them.  Its like having a Ducati when a Suzuki makes far more sense.
