the only real approach

is to be prepared to kill your neighbors

and cook them thoroughly to kill any parasites before eating them
LOL, totally agree.  When it comes down to the end, it doesn't matter how well stocked and prepared you are.  All it really matter is how you can get to the resources you need to survive, whether to acquire it from nature or over [fill in blank]'s dead body.

Note to self: start digging the bunker in the baseball craw space.  Extra points for using a remote controlled earth mover.   [thumbsup]

My plan is to set up treadmill with model plane on top in the center of town. Then, while everyone is standing around debating, I raid their food stash.

That reminds me of a mythbusters on several years ago testing a plane on a giant simulated treadmill seeing if it will take off. Is that what you are referring to?

Just saw a tv commercial from the dept of homeland security urging people to put together a 72 hour "go bag".

Mother

His name was Jeremiah Johnson

they say he wanted to be a mountain man.

The story goes that he was a man of proper wit and adventurous spirit, suited to the mountains.

Nobody knows where abouts he come from and don't seem to matter much.

He was a young man and ghosty stories about the tall hills didn't scare him none.

He was looking for a Hawken gun, .50 caliber or better.

He settled for a .30, but damn, it was a genuine Hawken, and you couldn't go no better.

Bought him a good horse, and traps, and other truck that went with being a mountain man, and said good-bye to whatever life was down there below.

I posted a ?? on the gun stuff thread about bug out bags and what you would want in yours but didn't get much of a response. Zach posted about back packs but no one offered their ideas on the goodies they'd put in it. [popcorn]
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

That's a funny scene when he leads the bear into the cabin! [laugh]

I'd seen this a few days after you posted, but the conversation had wandered off by then. I was reminded of a story in The Backwoodsman magazine, in which he scoffed at all these cartridge guns as "bug out" weapons. When it REALLY hits the fan, he argued, you need a .32 cal flintlock, a bullet mold & know how to extract saltpeter from your saved urine...
