Ducati North America Reports Record Sales In June

From a press release issued by Ducati North America:

Cupertino CA (2 July, 2008) - Ducati North America is delighted to announce a record retail month in June; surpassing the previous all time high set in May of 2007. The record setting month, 22% higher than June of 2007, keeps the company’s sales ahead for the year despite a weak marketplace.

“I am pleased to report that sales were strong across the model range and have been exceptional for the newly introduced Monster 696,” commented Jason Chinnock, National Sales Manager for Ducati North America. “The 696 demand outpaced our supply for the month otherwise the new record of 1410 units would have been higher! We will be working hard to meet that demand in the coming months and with the motorcycle market reporting slower sales, we are excited to be bucking the trend.”

Ducati North America has been enjoying outstanding growth in the United States over the last five years and has nearly tripled sales since 2003. A string of commercially successful bikes, from the Hypermotard to the new 1098 and 848 superbikes, and now the new Monster have taken the brand to sales of over 10,000 in the last 12 months. “The transformation of our product lineup and the exceptional dedication of our dealer network to improve has delivered these outstanding results,” commented Michael Lock, CEO of Ducati North America. “At a time when fuel costs are dominating the public’s attention, Ducati offers a perfect storm of style, performance and bikes like the Monster 696 that can return over 50 mpg!”

Don't know what numbers he's been looking at. With fuel prices, moto sales have been good for everyone.

Most likely MIC (www.mic.org) numbers reported from the various manufacturers.  Ducati is one of the few that has been experiencing increased sales volume in 07 and into 08'.

This numbers are facts, there's a big demand for the new Monster 696 ;D.
Bottomline the new 696 is Ducati's new moneymaker [thumbsup].
Love it or hate it. It all comes down to sales figure.
We can all agree that Ducati hit the target on what consumers want with the new 696 ;).
CONGRATULATIONS! Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A.

Ummmmm....Just a sec there 707soldier.   Ducati sales increased in 2007 and continued into 2008.  The 696 has only been out for a month or so.  Doesn't seem like we can credit the 696 for all this good news.    :P

Something besides the 696 has been powering this surge.  Could it have been the 848?  The HyperMotard?  The Desmocidici?  Hmm........could a lot of those sales possibly been of the "old" Monster too?   :o   :o

Impossible you say?

Nice link Dave. I'm not spending $200 to read the stats though.  [thumbsup]

I'm sure Ducati is doing great. I bought a non-ducati for the first time in ten years but that was more of a sales department failure then anything. I'm also waiting for a new 1000CC+ monster.

How current are those stats? I'm sure the last six months have shown a surge for any and all two wheeled, gas saving brands. I'm seeing tons more bikes on the freeway.

I agree.  From what I have seen, if you were to try and pick one model that provided the majority of this turn around success, it would be the 1098.

Regardless of which bike is responsible for the increase sales, this is excellent news for Ducati and the value of all of our bikes [clap]
