Hi all,

I just picked up a '00 monster 750 and after taking it for it's first spin around the block, I couldn't believe how tight and hard to pull the clutch was. I did a lot of research and found a few things that I'm not exactly sure of.

1. Will removing 2 of the 6 springs make a noticeable difference on my clutch pull?
2. Is adding a billet slave (like oberon or STM) going to make more or less of a difference than the removal of 2 springs?

4. Are there any write-ups or guides on how to remove/replace the springs?
5. If I replace the clutch slave, are adjustable levers necessary?

I'm trying to do this right, and I'd rather spend money if it's going to make my clutch last longer, but if removing the two springs is easier and cheaper and won't have any negative effects on my clutch, than I'd probably more likely do that. Thanks for any advice.

1. Yes. All the springs being equal (they should be) it'll reduce effort 33%
2. Probably less. To gain a 33% advantage though the hydraulics the piston in the slave would have to increase a good bit, probably making it useless for this application as it won't move enough to disengage the clutch.
3. Probably not. Stainless springs are usually stiffer. And quality is a relative measure - what you really need to know is the spring rate. That's apples to apples. Also those are for a dry clutch bike - it's quite likely they would not fit.
4. Haven't seen one. But you'd be removing the side case of the engine to do this job (removing springs) you ready for that commitment?
5. Not necessary, but you might like them.

I have heard the Oberon slave does improve the problem but i have only found one in the uk and it costs £92.00

first get someone who knows what it should feel like to confirm that it's normal.

i don't know if pulling 2 springs from a wet clutch will work.  i've seen it tried in a 600 and not work.

the larger slaves that reduce the effort increase the travel proportionally, so you'll need to make sure you have all the available travel.

find an aptc clutch from a s2r800 or late 620/695/696 and fit that.  they're much lighter.
