How far out are you shooting?

I shot my .50 today too!
my .50 cal is a little bit smaller than your M107 though.

I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

I'll have to squish up some of my 205 grain low drags for you to try.  We've killed deer with them over the 4 digit mark.

Anyone reloading ammo for a Glock 23? If so, your recommendations and cautions.
I know about the 'no lead' bullets and no hot loads in used brass.

fastwin

I love the 19/23 size Glocks but I do not reload. Sorry... no help there. Got rid of my G22s and am down to a 23 and a 27 in .40S&W. Not the world's biggest fan of the 40s, just like the size pistols Glock offers them in. More of a 9mm and .45acp guy. Hope you get some reload feedback. [thumbsup]

I use-

Starline brass for cases.

I shoot lead but you can also get plated bullets from the same places. I've used Seminole brass and bullet and the bullet works (both online) and have had good quality and delivery from both places. These are lead round nose that I've been buying and the come sized, lubed and ready to drop in a case.

I use bullseye powder only because its worked well for me. I done care to experiment much with loads once I find one that cycles the gun well and just seems to "work" ok.

Warrenj is the one to ask about this. He's the resident reloading mad scientist.

I used to be a mad scientist about reloading, but I've gotten a bit more cautious in my old age.  I've had a couple "powered disassemblies"  They are expensive and they hurt.

I haven't loaded 40 in a while.  I used to have a Glock 27.  One thing I have had a problem with is Starline Brass.  I had one let go in a 21 Glock.  The gun stayed locked up and it blew a section of the case out where it is unsupported by the feed ramp.  It blew out the side of the frame, blew out the trigger, destroyed the mag and blew it out of the gun.  My hand got a little sandblasted, but it could have been a lot worse.  These were new Starline cases and an admittedly experimental hot load but the 1911's, XD's and Beretta Storms we shot them through had no problem while I was using +P brass.  I loaded the same in the new Starlines and it let loose.  Maybe I had a bad case, but I think it was a combination of the unnecessarily large unsupported chamber mouth on the Glock and the Starline cases.

That being said, my recommendation would be to keep the loads in the middle of the road and use solid +P brass if you can find it.  The Speer Gold Dot bullets perform exceptionally.  We diid a big bullet performance test in bentonite and penetration through MDF boards and they gave exceptional, consistent results.

For general blasting bullets, some of the restrike plated bullets by Barrys or Ranier would probably work well.  Montana golden bullet also makes bulk jacketed bullets at a fairly reasonable price.

The 40 is a pretty high pressure cartridge and the Glock has a lot of unsupported area.  An aftermarket barrel by Barstow or KKJ reduces the size of the unsupported area and is conventionally rifled, allowing you to shoot cast bullets also.  Something to think about.

Also wouldn't hurt to pick up a loaded round gage.  Dillon and Midway have them.  I gage all my semi auto pistol ammo and segregate the ones that don't pass for practice clearing jams and other types of malfunctions.

Wow, great info. I'm not familiar with the term "+P brass".
Please explain.

Higher internal pressure than standard ammo

Re the mad scientist comment-  I just meant you had done a lot more experimentation with bullets and loads than me, not that you did crazy stuff (which I'm sure you've done)  ;)

I still think starline is a good make. I specifically nixed glock from my shopping list when I was in the market because of the way the case is left partially unsupported. Add in a +p or +p+ load like Warren did and you have the potential for trouble.

When I worked a load for my 9mm ruger I did a lot of reading and came to the conclusion that 3.6 grains to 4 grains would work for me.

I loaded 10 rounds each of 3.6, 3.8 and 4.0

They all fired ok but 3.6 wouldn't cycle the gun. The slide would only blow back about half way because it wouldn't even extract the spent case.

3.8 and 4.0 cycled fine. I settled on 4 and have run that since that day.

I am by no means toward the high end of what I could run. I just found that this combo cycles reliably, groups as well as I'm capable of, doesn't beat the gun up and still leaves a margin of safety in case (somehow) extra powder makes its way into the case.

Google glock kaboom. Sobering.

Definitely look into one of the better barrels Warren mentioned. The ability to shoot hard cast lead is nice as well.
