2004 vintage.

2500HD quad cab, 8' bed.

Just doing research at this point. 8' bed and decent payload are key for me.  Nit looking to buy new. Too much money.

3 Coworkers each have one, though slightly newer.

Love em.   [thumbsup]  No issues at all.

Rode in my boss's last week, plush for a truck.

I passed on it. Too expensive for me.

Cheaper to keep running my half ton and make extra trips because of the short bed.

:)

you can always do the gas hog 8.1 engine with the Allison transmission.  ;)

I've been eyeballing the diesels for a long time....a somewhat tight turning radius is a big issue for me, as is being able to carry 8' stuff, dry.  The short beds are too short.

I wish they would put a diesel in the Avalanche.  My first one had an 8.1 and that thing was a BEAST!

The best gas mileage I got out of it was 11mpg......worst gas mileage was also 11.  Didn't have the Allison.

You're probably right.  That vehicle never made much sense to me.  Much in the same way a Ridgeline doesn't make much sense.

But I digress.

ML needs fuel prices to rise about 25-40 cents per gallon and used diesel trucks will be more affordable again.

Monsterlover

Well, I don't need a diesel per se. Just something that can move at least 2k lbs in the bed.

If I were to buy new I probably would lean toward gas.

Used, diesel might be ok if the price is right.

What he means is that, if either had a Toyota badge on the front, they'd be the greatest invention since the dry clutch  [cheeky]

ML, I guess it doesn't matter now, but everything I've heard about the duramax and Allison combo has indicated that they're pretty well bulletproof.
