Battery chargers....... are they really needed?

Lead Acid batteries need to be held at 80% or above else the cells start to degrade due to sulfation, which will shorten life.

Wikki says that "Starting batteries should be kept open circuit but charged regularly (at least once every two weeks) to prevent sulfation."

I use the CTEK connector with a charge indicator. It flashes amber when the battery voltage drops. I  scan the shed and connect the charger and top up whatever vehicle flashes amber. I have a lot vehicles that get little use (bikes, cars, tractors & boat) each with an indicator so the charger is swapped between vehicles and is pretty much used 24/7.

The tractor and my old BMW airhead both appreciate a fully charged battery after a lengthy break (yes they have things in common!).
