I was lucky enough to see him play a number of times; whether live or recorded, no matter how closely I listened or watched his hands, I could never figure out how he made so many intertwined lines of music come out of one guitar & one flatpick.

In one of the tributes I heard on the radio yesterday, one of his longtime collaborators remarked on how sharp a musician had to be to keep up with him. You could tell he was smiling when he said "You know, Doc never played a song the same way once."

RIP, Doc.

I was fortunate to see him play at Merlefest numerous times with Alison Krauss and even Bela Fleck. Absolutely amazing musician. One of my faves:

I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.
