OK,I'll bite,why?
I found the people to be pretty unfriendly to Americans.

I was at the Hyatt for dinner and when we left the parking garage I asked the attendant in my best made up French 'our est le gaz station?'

He sent me miles out of the way to a station that was closed, when there was actually a station that was open just down the street.

Once was enough for me.

U can't go wrong with montreal.

How are their jail accommodations?  I realize this is a seldom asked question...

past experience has shown me that when traveling it can be an important consideration

though it is rarely discussed in travel brochures...not covered in Michelin's Guides either

I could write the copy (note: I have never been to Turkey)....

"should one find themselves incarcerated in Istanbul,

it is important to note that the prison guards will require you to perform certain local customs

in order to see your lawyer or get fed. It is important that you understand that some of the practices

do not align to your country of origin's cultural norms and you must adjust your behavior accordingly"
This is an insult to the Pez community

I doubt it was because of that.  Some French Canadians find it amusing to screw with those who speak English, be they Canadian or otherwise.  As a primarily English-speaking Canadian, I have had similar experiences to yours while traveling in Quebec, etc.

That's fine.

They can screw with some other English speaking people.

I'm all set.

That's why you should go to Vancouver and deal with the nice people there.

Believe me, I understand your feelings.  I just didn't want you to think it was because you are American.  We tend to avoid these places for the same reason.

we have GPS's now and smart phones.  you don't have to ask them for anything anymore.

they didn't like your 'stache.  you're supposed to have the ends twirled UP
Check out my oil filter forensics thread!                     Offended? Click here
"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Damn it never posted the rest if my original message. Anyways to answe u questions sadly the drunk tank there, well when i was there was awesome, best I'd ever been in, not that inwas a repeat offender. That one time though was an awesome trip. Anywyas just give them ur shors and belt, instead if tem taking your laces, you'll thank me in te morning when tour hung over and teying to thread them back in.  Well that my experiene with drunk tanks anyways, never dis get a free breakfast though and i you wanna know a bunch of us on a rugby team had some drinks that should be enough said.

Check out the smoked meat shop he mentioned above i can't remember the name but henis righr best around.

If tou can get there at the sametime of the races, the down town literally shuts down. And rhere are thousands of women ah i mean people out and about. Actually screw that go to calgary for the stampede, its always a good time at ranchmans bar, ah the old watering hoke, i use to live literally right behind it, well on elbow drive. Nothing like drunk cow girls, ah people for a fun time.

Christ now that i thing about it ever Canadian city is a good party, except for Van. I've ha fun in van don't get me wring but nothing memorable.   My tops are st. Johns(george street fesival) montreal, any time of year especially indy week, and calgary stampede(everyones country for that week). Ottawa is a blast on Canada day, Edmonton is fun too, toronto i always had a good time around PDAC(mining conference), lots if drunk business men throwing money around.   Van, is really the only one i've yet to have anything really. Time to change that!!!

Sorry bit off topic there, i strongly recommend montreal, if tour with a bunch of buds, it doesn't matter where you go to h e fun, but in Montreal the fun is literally right around the corner at most times.

If you can't tell i've done my fair share of traveling/partying or relocated to most of the cites for jobs. I traveled a lot for work so i could live anywhere i wanted.  At times i use to just live in Europe different place each time, was a blast. Sadly I gave up the expat life for a normal job christ what was i thinking!!!
