Coachbuilding is one thing, stamping LeBaron fenders in Italy then slapping a trident on them is another. 

I saw a Biturbo in Autotrader a few years ago for $2500.

They were.  Modified Chrysler body, modified Chrysler engine.  Hardly worthy of a trident in my opinion.

just for clarification, the chrysler tc predates fiat ownership of maserati.

It took only 20 posts to hit the nail right on the head.

I work for a Porsche dealer, and while the Cayenne and Panamera might be financial windfalls for the company they aren't real Porsches and they did dilute the brand.

Part of the saving grace of being owned by a bigger company is you can specialize.
Ferrari in Fiats care and Lamborghini/ Bugatti in VW care.
Now let's hope that VW/Audi leaves the Ducati brand to what it's best at.

And yes I know VW owns Porsche, kind of, but there's so much legal stuff going on behind the scenes that they haven't been able to purge the interlopers from the sports car line, yet...

If it takes a few Cayennes on the road to keep them building 911s, then I'll allow it.

except that ugly Ducati Rune...that they can do away with  [laugh]


BTW--I've seen the FF in person. As much as I wanted to hate it...um...I don't. I'll never be able to afford one, but I approve. I'd rather have a 599, but I wouldn't kick the FF out of my garage.

Surely they sell enough 911's, Caymans and Boxsters without the need to try and make a four door SUV look like a Porsche 911 or a four door saloon look like Porsche 911?? ???

With the engineering ability and reliability and proven technology of this brand why do they all have to look....well kinda the same. Why not employ a fresh new design and create something legendary with the Porsche badge on it without compromising the looks.

Would people not buy it?

While the same goes for the Ferrari FF it's not trying to compete in the X5 market and does look quite good IMO.
