Will be there a very short time, two nights.  :) We have a hotel downtown Hotel Fifty...so would like to try and be close to that but not a must.

We are looking for recommendations more of a local experience of food. Things maybe only locals know or something to that effect!  :)

We went on to Yelp... found Clyde Common, Higgins Restaurant, The Frying Scotsman, Little Bird, Dan & Louis Oyster Bar,  Olympic Provisions... I think these are French and Seafood. Also came across Voodoo Doughnut or is their a better place to try?  [cheeky]

We like all  kinds of food! We are looking for tasty and fun food experiences! Also are there any great Dim Sum places too?

Please give us your suggestions!  [beer] Thanks  [wine]

I was just there a few weeks ago.

Here are a few downtown spots I went to:

Portland City Grill is good, and has a fantastic view.

Davis Street Tavern was a good lunch spot.

Mother's Bistro had excellent breakfast.

Henry's Tavern - great food for a tavern and a fantastic beer selection.

Voodoo Doughnuts was good too.  We got lucky on a Thursday and didn't have a line to contend with.

Pine State Biscuits is a great breakfast spot too, but not in downtown.

Thanks, Randimus Maximus  [thumbsup] also have you eaten at any of the places I named?

Firstly, coffee: http://goo.gl/maps/OKgm Coava, Barista, and Heart were my favourites, but all those places were great.

Foodwise, we had a great meal at Olympic Providores in Pearl District, and another wonderful meal at Clark Lewis just over the river in the SE (which was startlingly close to the Portlandia "Colin the chicken" sketch, if you've seen that…) - but for "authentic Portland-ness" you've gotta eat at a food cart...

Also, if you end up in the south east, The Whole Bowl and Por Que No on SE Hawthorne up near 44th/45th, and Pok Pok on SE Division near 32nd, and Bete-Lukas Ethiopian on 50th just off Division were all wonderful. (Yeah, we pretty much camped out in the SE for a week and a half last year…) Oh, and Rimsky-Korsakoffee House on 12th too...

Has anyone eaten at
Pok Pok or Screen Door?

(which was startlingly close to the Portlandia "Colin the chicken" sketch, if you've seen that…) totally did  [laugh]

So much good info here!!! I cant wait to eat,  [drink]  and explore!

I can see why you would camp out in that area  ;)

I printed a "book" of food carts to look at, when Carl looked at the "book" I printed we realized it did not have the locations printed on it, just the images and descriptions. I know I was wanting to do this too.

Heard from locals that Pok Pok was great, but never got there.  Went to Clyde Common and had a great piece of trout, and some really good cocktails, but I am kind of a cocktail dork.  My favorite place was Oven & Shaker.  Kind of a new place, think they've only been open for less than a year.  REALLY GREAT drinks, but as I said I am kind of a cocktail dork.  Place is very well run, cool atmosphere.  Oh, and REALLY GREAT drinks!  Had one of the best eggs benedict dishes with potatoes at a place called Northwest Public House on Kearney St.
Ahh... but the servant waits, while the master baits.

I haven't been there in a while, but there used to be a killer pizza place across the street from Powell's Books.  And of course you should check out Powell's.  The largest book store on the west coast.

Veritable Quandary is my favorite place in downtown pdx.  If you're in the mood for pizza, Apizza Scholls on Hawthorne is the place.

Screen Door?
Amazing brunch; the fried chicken & waffle never disappoints:

The dinner menu is excellent as well.  They don't take reservations though, and the wait times can be excruciating; get there early if you want to get seated in a reasonable amount of time.

^^ That looks awesome!!  [drool]

Great pizza, but not really downtown...although not too bad by cab, and a pretty cool part of town.

Great breweries all over as well. Portland is to beer what Napa is to wine.  [thumbsup]

I wasn't all that impressed by VooDoo Donut. They were good donuts, but not great. They mainly seem to be cool due to the unique combinations they have and the weird atmosphere. Full disclosure though...I was really hung over from brewery hopping the day before, and kind of grumpy that I had to wait in a 45 minute line for a friggin' donut!  [laugh] Still, there's a far superior donut place in Seattle if you ever make it up this way.
