If you put miles on, VW TDI, not so many miles, then go for the GTI.  The standard Golf ain't bad either.

Got the 2010 base Golf and it was a fun fun car to drive.
2001 Supersport 900 Yellow!!! (she's just so much fun)
2000 Monster 750 Carb Dark!!! (Sold and still full of regrets)

Yeah the only 2 WRX I can find locally are both 2010 one hatch and one sedan and both are within 2k of new prices. I like those things but not at over 30k a pop.

i love the WRX. I have wanted one since the 2.5rs (blue with gold rims of course)
i'm seeing 2006 models with 100K miles going for $25K+

That's incredibly idiotic to me.

since the 9-2x is basically a WRX and just as steadfast...not exactly the STi...but that can be remedied with some of the coin in your pocket leftover from not paying for the nameplate!!

never to a dealer unless i have to. there are things on the car that I can't do on my own due to lack of space and ramps. it goes in the shop often enough.
i actually didn't have to do anything to it until the window track broke on the way to DIMBY. lol [laugh]

funny how the car never had an issue until I laid eyes on it  ;D

I only bring my stuff to a dealer for warranty stuff or if there is something I don't feel like doing and I feel confident they won't screw it up

Looking @ a white Jetta GLI base-model.

It'll come in a touch over $23K, but I think it'll be worth it.

Oddly...  4-5 y.o. Jetta GLI's can be had for sub-$10K...  Hmmm...
